This weekend saw the first of this years mackerel, hopefully this is the start of the summer! Also catching dabs, whiting, codling,doggies. A few plaice, thornbacks and huss have been landed too.

Getting some really good whiting right now... suprising as the water is still very cold but the fishing is good with anglers going home with a feed and some for the freezer. Bassing starts in earnest tomorrow with near ideal conditions so we should have some serious fish to talk about soon.....

At Last.....Good signs offshore.
A weather window today allowed another foray to visit some offshore wrecks. Even in Conwy Bay the signs were there, hinting towards a big change in the water temperature, since a fortnight ago. Temperature inshore had increased from 4.7 to 8.7 degrees! Offshore the difference was less marked, rising from 6.7 to 7.4 degrees. Doesn't seem like much, but enough to put the pollack back on the feed. We had about 40 pollack to 7lb. Not startling fishing but at least the season seems to have finally started. Pollack fell mainly to rhubarb and custard 4-6" sidewinders. We also had a few coalfish to 4 lb.
Another charter boat from Conwy also had plenty of whiting, dabs and dogfish inshore on Saturday.
I have room on Sunday (28th April) on 8 hour inshore fishing trip if anyone is interested. View Boats Page

The wrecking has kicked off properly now, lots of prime cod coming up.
Still plenty of skate showing inshore along with some great Spurdogs on the smaller tides.

The Skate are here in good numbers, feeding up on the herring.
Get on down and bag up !!!
Smoothies and good Bass will be here any day soon.
The wrecks are fishing well for cod and pollock.
Spring has Sprung and we're back to hauling and having fun !

Glorious sunshine and flat calm seas today, nice end to the Easter period … sadly the fish failed to read my email!
A painfully slow start to the day, drifting around the coast to Trearddur Bay saw no fish for the first 90 mins. A move to anchor, then a further move finally saw a few doggies, with the odd codling and whiting break the surface of the water. Additionally we had a fair number of bull huss, sadly they were the smallest huss I had ever seen, the largest was smaller than a standard dogfish!
The deep was sadly hard work also. Dave managed to hook this beauty of a spurdog towards the end of our time, following on from Ian Thomo who hooked into the only other spur of the session, eevryone else catching just dogs.Fortunately for Ian, it was his first spur and a very a decent one at 14lb 6oz View Boats Page

The weather this weekend made for a challenging time for the lads aboard My Way. Erratic fishing saw, dogs, dabs, whiting and codling come aboard My Way in single double and triple shots, only for the following hour to slow down, forcing another move to seek out fish.
Huss and small ray helped bulk up the species count along with a few additional mini specie and a solitary plaice; thankfully some pretty unprintable banter and great food help ease the hardship of the bitterly cold east wind that forced us all to cover up behind big coats and hats all day long.
On reflection, a great weekend with a good bunch of anglers …. Roll on the summer! View Boats Page

Since putting the boat back in the water 2 weeks ago the wind hasnt stopped blowing from the east so we have had to cancel all but one trip. Hopefully april will give us a break in the weather and let us get out there to catch some fish!

The bass season starts in mid April here on the West Wales coast and we'll be on 'em from then onwards. I'm expecting a slow start as the water warms through May with the fishing rapidly improving through June to a peak by mid August. The Makkies will show on 1st May and from then onwards we will be able to chase large packs of Tope that always follow the fish.
