    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

A nice day out there today.

Starting out on a wreck 17 miles off and the lads were straight in to the cod. Doubles coming aboard all over the place. Just like the good old days!!

This lasted for an hour or so and gave the lads a great start to the day. Baited rigs and shads doing the business.
A move back inshore then and the lads picked away at codling on the 7 and 9 mile ground ending the day nicely.

Best fish today going to Peter Kisby. A nice codling of 6lb 10 oz

The Spring competition ends this coming Sunday.

Cheers for now and tight lines

  • 20/04/2021 Fishing Report by Ryan Jones on Ocean Runner (Poole, Dorset)

20 Apr 2021 by Ryan Jones

    Report on-board Ocean Runner

Great start to our season with great plaice fishing to kick start off from Poole, with our best day being over 70+ fish landed with some quality fish for the table and majority returned to fight another day. With the weather getting better and the temperature slowly increasing we have had our first bream of the year and as of next week with the spring tides we should have plenty of bream to catch in the bay.

  • 22/04/2021 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

22 Apr 2021 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

The Tope fishing from Pwllheli on the bigger tides was looking very promising, on our best day we had Tope of 57lb, 54lb, 51lb and dropped 5 Tope in the first hour.

Then as the tide dropped away it was just Huss and Doggies, when the tide turned we had 2 more Tope of 36lb and 22lb.

As we where weighing the 57lb Tope in the sling the Tope regurgitate it’s stomach so we didn’t both with a photo and got it straight back in the water.

Over the next few days the Tope fishing was very difficult with very small tides, bright sun shine and crystal clear water.

We even tried a night fishing trip with lots of chum because the day before we got bitten off on 250lb mono.

Sadly we only managed the one Tope and Huss to 12lb, thankfully we have caught Tope on all of our Tope trips so far.

We also had our first wrecking trip of the season booked in, its was a 23 hour trip with some of my regulars.

I explained to the lads we mite be too early in the season to have a good day and I had not fish any of the wrecks since the 90s.

The first few wrecks where very poor with just a few small Pollack for our efforts, we decided to steam another hour more and then we hit the honey hole, every drift was 4 to 6 Pollack per drift to 8lb but most where 5lb to 6lb.

The lads stopped on just over 150 Pollack then we decided to try a few more wrecks for Cod or Ling but all we found was small Coalfish and Pollack.

We decided to put the anchor down for the last few hours over slack water with only Coalfish and Pollack for bait, two of the lads got smashed up by big fish on there light gear and they managed to catch Spurdog to 16lb, Huss to 14lb, Tope to 10lb and Doggies.

Not a bad day between just 6 of them, I would of loved to have a load of fresh mackerel at anchor on one of them deep water wrecks,
I think there are a few surprises down there that’s for sure.

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

We are still waiting for the Bream to arrive after an a spell of cold weather, with the temp rising hopefully they will be here next week on the bigger tides. It is nice to see a few Mackeral showing. The last few days we have concentrated on Plaice and Rays with both being caught in numbers, local angler Keith asked if we could have a spell on the ‘patches’ trying for a bream only to land a double shot of dogfish and plaice. Now we have a spell of strong easterlies confining us to port. If you would like more info or a trip please call
    Tight lines

  • 19/04/2021 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

19 Apr 2021 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

The Spring Festival continues at Whitby, with some better weather. Dave Carmody was on-board for the day and is well versed in what’s required to winkle out a decent fish or two off the Whitby wrecks.
He helped himself to the biggest fish of the festival so far, when he landed a lovely 7lb 2oz Ling. All the boys on the boat took plenty of fish home for the table and a combined 32 fish total of mainly Codling in the 3-4lb bracket was a good reward for the 20 mile run off.
Squid and Hokkai’s baited with squid are still dominating the catches, so if you’re coming on board over the next few days, we would definitely recommend bringing some with you.

    Report on-board Galloper

Although I am pretty sure I know the answer I thought I would play ‘name that species’ with this one.
I say it’s a spotted ray, Sam had it the other day and its only the 2nd one we’ve had on Galloper and the 3rd one I’ve heard of within the thames area.
The spots don’t reach the edge of the wings and this male is clearly sexually mature despite being quite a small fish so I don’t believe it to be a blonde. Please give me you’re answers on a post card.
These may be uncommon around here but there have been plenty of thorn-backs, a few smooth-hounds and some early bass showing the last couple of weeks.
