Rob used his local knowledge to put us on the fish almost immediately and we enjoyed great sport all day. I must have caught 30+ bream and kept a few of the bigger ones to take home. An excellent days fishing by any standard.

a good day, early fair sized bream/ray/smoothound and a conger that made the surface,as well as the other usual suspects(dogs & pout!). a well presented clean boat as always with fresh bait supplied at a nominal charge.

First day back fishing in a number of months, for me. Light winds and overcast with a reasonable tide saw the day starting well. Leaving Portsmouth Harbour and heading for a mark east of the Nab. The next hour was spent catching up with old friends and sorting out the rigs for todays species. Smoothounds, Rays, Bass Conger who knows, one of the reasons I fish the Solent as your never sure whats down there. Tide was running when we arrived and having drawn position 10 up by the wheel house I tackled up and baited with fresh peeler. Didnt take too long before the smoothound sniffed it out and into my first hound of 2009. Fresh brewed tea came next to quench the thirst of that work reeling in the fish ! The next few hours saw the tide build and larger weights used to hold the bait firmly on the bottom with more smoothounds being caught by all onboard along with doggers and pout by those using mackerel as bait. Tide started to slow round midday and suprise suprise my first Bream of 2009. A nice male of approx 2lbs that gave a good show of its self. Not as heavy as I had first thought due to the oversized Pout that had taken the 2nd hook. Early afternoon and the sun had burnt away the earlier mist with layers of waterproof clothing being discarded. The afternoon saw more smoothounds, small ray, doggers, pout and a lone Conger brought on board along with a few more nice sized Bream. With more tea in between and pleanty of banter amongst those fishing it was an excellent first day back to fishing for me . Well pleased.

Fishing was good. Only 2 things spoiled the day; the weather (it rained all day!), and after the 1st cuppa, the pump broke for the water supply, so no more tea!

We left Portsmouth early for a ten hour trip which turned out to be my best days fishing on sea-juicer to date. I landed a 23lb blonde ray on a mackrel head (a personal best), one of twelve landed on the boat along with a nine pound cod, a four pound whiting, a nine pound spurdog several smoothounds, pouting and a few dogfish. All in all great days fishing a personal best, lots of tea and we even saw a couple of porpoises, can't wait for my trip next week!
