2021 TRIPLE WINNER TAKING ALL 3 COMPETITIONS THAT YEAR!!!!
PLUS DOZENS OF OTHER COMPETITION WINS BEFORE THESE DATES!!!!
Whitby's only TWIN ENGINED charter boat. She is Whitby's most popular, powerful and fastest angling boat winning more angling competitions and daily prizes over the last 30 years than any other boat in Whitby.
Sponsored by the top name in sea angling "SHIMANO" Shy Torque III is the best known of all the charter boats in Whitby and probably the North East coast and has a track record second to none.
The boat is fully licensed and insured and has a code of practice "Category 2 " with the RYA, allowing us to travel up to 60 miles. (Please ask to see certificate if required) Only a handful of Whitby charter boats hold this category of license and insurance. If you sail beyond the boats designated area of work, then the insurance for that boat (which covers you as an angler) does become null and void. It's a good idea to check in case of any eventualities!!!
For your best chances of a great days fishing from Whitby the Shy Torque III is your best option by far. If you want to book the boat as a club we do a special rate for teams of 8 or less. Please ensure that you have the full money for the places you have booked (whether it be full boat or individual bookings) as we will have been turning people away on the strength of your booking.
The dates for the competitions here at Whitby for 2024 are listed below.
The Spring competition dates are April 13th to April 28th INC. Big cash prizes!!
The Summer competition dates are June 29th to July 21st July INC Get yourselves a trip booked to have a chance of winning a great cash prize!!!
The late Summer competition dates are August 31st to September 15th INC. You can book any places as from now. 07733 233352
When you consider that some of the other charter boats in Whitby are charging on average around £50.00 for a day’s fishing (this includes the slow boats!) then the £55.00 that we charge for individuals for the day is more than worth it. We can give you so much more time fishing than the others!!! Plus with the added advantage of staying completely DRY in wet conditions.
The boat is just under 40ft in length and fitted with the "Islander" style wheelhouse. There is oodles of space per angler (unlike some of the boats in Whitby) as we can fish right around the boat from stem to stern! The "ANGLERS CABIN" also ensures that you can arrive at the fishing areas DRY and arrive back home DRY. There are no other charter boats in Whitby (in our size range) that can offer a full team TOTAL cover like we can.
REMEMBER, if you are paying less than what we charge there WILL be a reason for it!!! Individuals are welcome on the boat. Gift vouchers are available for trips every year and would make an excellent gift / birthday / Xmas present.
The full 2022/23 tide table for Whitby is now available. Please call for details or visit the site.
"We are totally committed in providing an unrivalled service every day we sail"
Shy-Torque III. Going that extra mile (or 10!) for you.
Fully qualified commercial yachtmaster. Started going to sea with my Dad when I was just 5 years of age !! Started working as a charter skipper full time at the age of 18. Over 40 years experience at sea!!
Longest serving skipper from Whitby.
This is my full time job ( not just working on weekends ) working every day the weather permits 12 months of the year. I have been working as a charter skipper longer than any other charter skipper in Whitby. Over the last 25 years we have won more angling competitions than any other boat in Whitby ! Very proud of the boat keeping her in immaculate condition at all times. We also have a crewman when we are taking newcomers to the sea angling game. We are always there to assist you throughout the day to try and make your day as enjoyable as possible. Willing to go the extra mile (or 10!!) to find the fish.
You are welcome to give me a ring to discuss your trips anytime between 8AM & 8PM.
Look forward to sailing with you soon.
Rich.

Another good day on Shy torque. Rich was on the ball as usual we fished some wrecks 21 miles off but there were a breeze that made fishing a bit difficult only a few cod were caught so he brought us in to try some rough ground that’s when the fishing got better with some decent sized cod coming in every one on the boat had plenty of fish for the freezer. Big thanks to Rich for a good day. I’m looking forward to the next trip Ivan.
Skippers Reponse: Thanks for the review Ivan.
Always a pleasure sailing with you Ivan. Pleased we had a nice picking in the end.
A lovely day all round.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
18 Dec 2024 by Rich Ward
A fantastic sunrise welcomed us back to sea yesterday morning with our group of 6 lads, after yet another long spell away from the water.
We were meant to start our Shy-Torque III Xmas Uptiding Competition last Sunday but sadly the weather has been against us until yesterday.
We sailed just after 7.30am and headed out to our usual inshore marks, where on the last few trips, fished well.
Yesterday morning was totally different!
We persevered for a couple of hours on the first mark until the tide started slowing up, for a paltry 10 fish or so.
A move of just a couple of miles over slack water to a different sector and the signs were immediately better.
4 or 5 Codlings boated as soon as we’d anchored which gave us hope for when the flood tide pushed through.
As the flood pushed through, the Codling started biting a bit better for an hour or so until we were hampered by 4 seals. After they disappeared the fishing didn’t recover really, by which time it was about time to return home.
Tally for the trip was around 30 fish to keep, with a number of smaller fish, Dogfish, Pouting, Codling, returned safely
Because yesterday looked like the only day we are going to get in our little 8 day pre Xmas competition, I decided that it would be unfair to all our other anglers booked on, to count any possible contenders for the prize money we’re offering and instead have decided to try and run another contest in the New Year on some good inshore tides.
Dates of that to be decided.
Best Codling fell to young Fergus (crewman) and Neil Dowson, both lads from Egton just outside Whitby. Fish to just over 5lb.
At this point I would like to wish everyone who have fished with us over the year, a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
Tides and diary are ready for you to make any bookings in 2025.
Cheers
Rich

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
6 Dec 2024 by Rich Ward
After a long spell away from the job with bad weather, it was great to get back out there again on Wednesday and Thursday with great teams of lads on their annual two day inter-boat Uptiding Competition.
John Wright, who organises this event with me
(The Whitby Invitational Cod Open) for his retired police colleagues, RAF friends and Civil Service mates have been looking forward to this event since last year.
The conversations with the organisers early on in the week were a bit “doom and gloom” to be fair, with swell predictions of over two metres for early Wednesday and we honestly didn’t expect to get to sea, but on the last check on the forecasts on Tuesday evening, the decision was made that we would give it a go.
The four boats involved, Shy-Torque, Trot-On, Alliance and Sea Urchin all sailed at 8.0am and had a great days angling with over 150 Cod boated between the four boats, along with all the usual “chuck backs”
Yesterday’s forecast was far from great, but because all 32 anglers were already in town, we all decided that we would have a look at it and decide on the morning.
A lovely morning welcomed us with very light winds and again, all four boats took to sea.
Not quite as good a day numbers wise with fish caught, but another great day for the lads on the water.
Another 100 plus Cod were boated, making for nearly 300 over the two day event.
Haddock, Pouting, Dogfish, Whiting amongst other species caught too. Oh, and a few Lobster!
The majority of all fish boated were measured for the points system and safely returned, which is always great to see regards future stocks.
A fantastic two days at sea with some cracking banter with the lads and as always, young Fergus was in top form as crewman.
Kim Andrews fishing aboard the Shy-Torque III took the heaviest Cod over the two days at 7lb 3oz.
Well done to him.
Thanks to all who competed and thanks to Paul, Shaun, Andy and Perry for joining us as skippers and crew.
We’re all looking forward to next year’s event already.
Cheers
Rich.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
16 Nov 2024 by Rich Ward
It looks like yesterday was the last day for us at sea for a while, with predicted Northerlies and big swells all this coming week.
The Uptiding hasn’t really taken off properly yet for us this season, but after this next week things will hopefully improve.
We had a mixed group on yesterday with regular lads and some newcomers too.
The day was slow from start to finish to be honest with just a couple of pulses of fish running through in the various spots we tried.
Sammy the seal pestered us right from the off which didn’t help us with some fish being taken by him on the way up resulting in just a head left on the hook!
A short move South after the change of tide at 10.30am saw a slight improvement with a couple of slightly better fish too.
Daniel Evans from Doncaster taking the best fish of the day at 7lb 9oz, a bonny Codling.
Jack Pike and Connor, both from nearby Pickering sailed with us for the first time and really enjoyed their day.
Connor’s first ever boat trip too.
They both managed a few Codling between them which they were really pleased with.
The lads and me persevered until 3.30pm chucking everything we had at the fish, which resulted in a mere couple of dozen landed on the boat.
A couple of lobsters were netted too which were berried females and were safely returned to the water.
Thanks for your continued support lads and hopefully see you again after this spell of wintery weather has passed.
(Xmas Uptiding Competition on the boat 15th - 22nd December)
Cheers for now,
Rich.

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
14 Nov 2024 by Rich Ward
Last Uptiding day today for Stan and Arthur.
They were joined again by Ali Bell from Leicester and Dave Bunting from Barnsley.
We ran a different direction to start the day, using the last of the ebb tide which had about an hour left to run.
Fish were coming aboard steady for the first half an hour. Sadly, every fish boated were undersized and were returned safely.
Good to see so many juvenile fish showing though and very encouraging for future stocks.
A move over slack water and we were back where we’d been working the last couple of days to catch the start of the flood tide.
Nothing to start off and as the tide made stronger, the fish were still reluctant to start feeding and only a handful were were boated. A couple of Dogfish amongst them.
We moved the boat just a few hundred yards North and the fish were feeding better on this peak.
At the end of the day the lads probably boated around 30 fish but only 18 (which I filleted) were kept, so no great shakes to shout about.
Nevertheless, another nice day on the water for the lads.
Best Codling falling to Arthur at a shade over 6lbs.
Don’t forget that we are running our own Uptiding Competition just before Xmas. Cash prizes on offer. Free mince pies, hot Toddy and Xmas cheer music too!!
Starting Sunday 15th December and ending Sunday 22nd.
A few days left with spaces if you fancy a ride out.
Cheers
Rich

Fishing Report by Rich Ward
14 Nov 2024 by Rich Ward
A fine day on the water yesterday with Arthur and Stan who were joined by Ali Bell from Leicester.
Uptiding was the approach again after the efforts the day before were showed signs of a few fish running and a return back to the same spots it was.
A couple of steadyish periods where the Codling were coming aboard but sadly Sammy the seal came pestering us and slowed things up considerably. Nuisances!!
However, a couple of nice Pollack boated through the day around the 5-6lb mark for Arthur and Stan and Stan also taking a nice Codling just shy of 7lb.
Bonus today too with a good Lobster!
All taken on the unwashed squid and black lugworm cocktails.
A fine sunny (and warmish) day with the usual Shy-Torque chitchat and banter.
Great to see Stan up and well again and enjoying his day back on the pond.
Ord lad’s not doing bad for 89!
Cheers
Rich
