2021 TRIPLE WINNER TAKING ALL 3 COMPETITIONS THAT YEAR!!!!
PLUS DOZENS OF OTHER COMPETITION WINS BEFORE THESE DATES!!!!

Whitby's only TWIN ENGINED charter boat. She is Whitby's most popular, powerful and fastest angling boat winning more angling competitions and daily prizes over the last 30 years than any other boat in Whitby.
Sponsored by the top name in sea angling "SHIMANO" Shy Torque III is the best known of all the charter boats in Whitby and probably the North East coast and has a track record second to none.

The boat is fully licensed and insured and has a code of practice "Category 2 " with the RYA, allowing us to travel up to 60 miles. (Please ask to see certificate if required) Only a handful of Whitby charter boats hold this category of license and insurance. If you sail beyond the boats designated area of work, then the insurance for that boat (which covers you as an angler) does become null and void. It's a good idea to check in case of any eventualities!!!

For your best chances of a great days fishing from Whitby the Shy Torque III is your best option by far. If you want to book the boat as a club we do a special rate for teams of 8 or less. Please ensure that you have the full money for the places you have booked (whether it be full boat or individual bookings) as we will have been turning people away on the strength of your booking.

The dates for the competitions here at Whitby for 2024 are listed below.
The Spring competition dates are April 13th to April 28th INC. Big cash prizes!!
The Summer competition dates are June 29th to July 21st July INC Get yourselves a trip booked to have a chance of winning a great cash prize!!!
The late Summer competition dates are August 31st to September 15th INC. You can book any places as from now. 07733 233352

When you consider that some of the other charter boats in Whitby are charging on average around £50.00 for a day’s fishing (this includes the slow boats!) then the £55.00 that we charge for individuals for the day is more than worth it. We can give you so much more time fishing than the others!!! Plus with the added advantage of staying completely DRY in wet conditions.

The boat is just under 40ft in length and fitted with the "Islander" style wheelhouse. There is oodles of space per angler (unlike some of the boats in Whitby) as we can fish right around the boat from stem to stern! The "ANGLERS CABIN" also ensures that you can arrive at the fishing areas DRY and arrive back home DRY. There are no other charter boats in Whitby (in our size range) that can offer a full team TOTAL cover like we can.
REMEMBER, if you are paying less than what we charge there WILL be a reason for it!!! Individuals are welcome on the boat. Gift vouchers are available for trips every year and would make an excellent gift / birthday / Xmas present.
The full 2022/23 tide table for Whitby is now available. Please call for details or visit the site.
"We are totally committed in providing an unrivalled service every day we sail"
Shy-Torque III. Going that extra mile (or 10!) for you.

Another good day on Shy torque. Rich was on the ball as usual we fished some wrecks 21 miles off but there were a breeze that made fishing a bit difficult only a few cod were caught so he brought us in to try some rough ground that’s when the fishing got better with some decent sized cod coming in every one on the boat had plenty of fish for the freezer. Big thanks to Rich for a good day. I’m looking forward to the next trip Ivan.

Skippers Reponse: Thanks for the review Ivan.
Always a pleasure sailing with you Ivan. Pleased we had a nice picking in the end.
    A lovely day all round.
    Cheers

  • 18/08/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward

18 Aug 2024 by Rich Ward

Yesterday we had Brian Cunningham’s team of 4 on chartering the boat for themselves.
Tomasz joined them too for a run out as they had come short.

As usual we stopped off for a few Mackerel at the bouy which were plentiful for the lads and after just a couple of drops we had enough for the day.

We ran straight back to the grounds we had worked the day before which were showing signs of a decent fishing shaping up.
    All change again!
We worked it for an hour or so and only managed a dozen or so fish there.

Slack water was around 11.0am so we dropped into the West a couple of miles and had a go at a small piece of wreckage.

It fished quite well for an hour and the lads took around 25 fish from it with Cod to just under 7lb.

It’s great when we are running with a light team as it gives young Fergus and me a chance to have a go too.
I was working a blue and white 4” shad and took a couple of nice Ling from it.
    Love a Ling curry!

We finished the day off on another strip of ground just 7 miles from port and took another dozen fish there. The day finished off well really and the lads were all well pleased with the results.

A few fresh Mackerel at the bouy to take for the BBQ’s before finishing and the day was done.

Thanks to Les, Eric, Sped, Mick and Tomasz for your great company as ever.

    Cheers
    Rich

  • 17/08/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward

17 Aug 2024 by Rich Ward

After gathering the Mackerel yesterday morning (which were a little scarce at first) we decided to have a change in direction and used the Ebb tide and headed out North.

First wreck was just over an hour away and after being left alone (to my knowledge) for a week or so I thought we would have done better than just 4 Codling boated.

We skipped out Eastbound then to a bigger wreck.

The conditions were absolutely perfect for it, and with a nice neap tide falling away to slack water for 11.0am, I was confident we would see a few fish there.
Again, I reckoned this wreck too had been left alone for a good while.

My confidence was soon shattered and after a half dozen drifts across it we had only taken half a dozen fish!

I’d been chatting to a fellow skipper on the VHF who was working a few miles North of us and he said he thought he water looked very green and cloudy.
It was the same where we were, so move number three was in order directly!

We slithered back into some ground for a change of scenery and the marks on the sounder were very encouraging indeed.
Plenty of feed marking and even a couple of Whales in the area too.

The lads dropped in, and the first drift over a 2m ledge produced a couple of fish straight away.
A nice Codling and a Ling of around 7lb too.
The Codling clean and fair on a Shad too.

We picked away on the ground marks for the rest of the day and the lads gathered around 30 fish there, which kind of saved the day for us.

Nice to see more fish falling to the Shads again too. Some clearer water there for sure.

A really great day out with great customers.

    Cheers
    Rich.

  • 14/08/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward

14 Aug 2024 by Rich Ward

Great to get back out there yesterday after a few days off work with the “Springs”

Forecasts and conditions were perfect and the tides are ideal now for a few days of inshore wreck hopping.

The Mackerel are still in full swing at the bouy and after two short drifts we had ample for the days bait supply.

We headed South using the bit of flood tide that was running and dropped on our first wreck which lays in two pieces.
The lads picked away on those bits until turned midday which resulted in a decent show of fish.
Ling to just over 10lb for rookie first timer Jack Wright who was on his first ever trip sea angling with his Dad Dan.
He showed his old man how to go on properly!!

No bigger fish to mention but around 50 fish off those two bits.

On the change of tide into the Ebb the fishing slowed up considerably and we probably only took another 10 fish from the next three wrecks, so we headed on back to the bouy to try and gather some fresh Mackerel for the lads to take home with them.
Plenty there still so we rounded the day off nicely.

A blood bath for young Ferg and me to clean down, but after a cracking days sport and banter, washing down in the sun and prepping for the next day was a pleasure.

Cheers lads and thanks for a great day aboard. A real pleasure.

  • 05/08/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward

5 Aug 2024 by Rich Ward

The fishing has been so slow over the last three trips (2nd, 3rd & 4th) that I’ve decided to combine them all in this one report!

Not much point in going into in-depth detail about each of the days, aside to say that the average catch per day has been between the 15-25 fish in total to keep.

The artificial lures are clicking a few fish, but a good number of those have been foul-hooked, indicating either murky waters or they just aren’t playing.

The bait rigs obviously catching fair and square.

The Mackerel are running ok at the moment and giving some real good sport on the lighter gear. Some fish going nearly two pounds in weight and when that stamp of fish are coming up in 3’s, 4’s and even 5’s, it really is great fun!!!

The Spring tides are on us at the moment so a bit of time for maintenance and relaxing.

Looking forward to the smaller neaps from next weekend, where (weather permitting) we will start seeing a bit better result in the catch rate.

Sun is shining, temperatures are great, so enjoy yourselves guys and we’ll see you all soon.

    Cheers
    Rich.

  • 29/07/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward

29 Jul 2024 by Rich Ward

It’s been a while since we’ve compiled a report. Primarily because of the big Spring tides recently which thankfully have left us for a while.

Today we had a mixed group on board with some new faces which was good to see.
The Mackerel fishing is well and truly alive now, and with some “clonking” fish around we really don’t need that many in numbers to have enough for the bait stocks for the day.
One drift of just a couple of minutes and we had enough!

First stop offshore this morning was a wreck around an hours steam from the harbour.
The lads picked just half a dozen from that one.
A short 5 minute hop to the next one where they picked up just 2 fish.

We moved into the West a few miles then and tried a few wrecks in close proximity to each other. A poor result from those with just 4 fish off 3 wrecks.

I decided to move to some ground /reefs next and we found a little “nest” of fish where the lads picked around 8 fish up (6 of them being Ling) with one slightly better fish of just under 10lbs.

The last drop of the day was on a tiny piece of wreckage that seldom gets touched, and we rounded the day off with half a dozen from that one.

A request was made to have a stop back at the bouy on the way back to port to try for some fresh Mackerel to take home and, after just a couple of short drifts, the boys were well and truly stocked up with them.

A cracking calm and warm day on the water, which resulted in around 35 keepers for the lads which isn’t great I know, but combined with lovely Summer weather, made for a lovely day.

    Cheers
    Rich.
