MAD DOG, ENGLISHMEN AND EU COUSINS. If I made a speech then this could be it. Firstly I would like to thank Mike 'Mad Dog' Taylor for selling me the amazing 'Just Mary' and allowing me to return to the Job that I love so much. On the right day, with the right customers and with Black Bream being lifted over the gunwhales is there really a better job in this world.....I think not. Secondly I would like to thank my small, but not insignificant number of English Customers who have stuck with me over the last Fifteen Years. And last but not least, I have a growing band of supporters from Europe, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian and Romanian EU Cousins who have joined the 'Just Mary' Fan Club since I returned to Full Time life as a Skipper. A recent spell of five days at Sea has seen our catch rate on my favourite Species, Black Bream increase significantly. Policemen and Women from nearby Winton enjoyed good numbers on a five hour trip last Thursday and a 3 hour SFP trip that followed. Friday more 3 hour trips for SFP and more Bream with everyone catching including John 'Dinger' Bell whose only other Poole Trip aboard another Boat had produced only one fish for the entire crew all day (!) and I know who it was. Saturday and Polish Cousins led by Sebastian Wisniewski produced 100 Fish and Sunday led by Peter Borowski did likewise. Well done Boys even if you couldn't always understand my words of encouragement ! Monday and Singles including a gang led by Arturas from Lithuania, 'Dinger' Bell (my latest fan) and his mate once again produced good fish and good numbers. More pics and stuff on my Facebook 'Onamission Charters' page.....thanks, Malc.

On behalf of the Blandford Sea Angling Club, thank you Paul and crewman Richard for making this trip such an enjoyable one.

Although the weather wasn't at its best, with rain falling all morning, all ten members including three first timers voiced their opinion that this was our best fishing trip this year. Not just because everyone caught fish, the reason being that everyone had such a good time. The camaraderie was to say the least fantastic, everyone was helping each other, and the excitement, when "Fish On" was heard, from several people round the boat at the same time was electric.
Fish of the day was a 21lb 10oz Cod followed by a double figure Pollock. Roll on our next club trip on Katie Ann, which is already fully booked with three reserves waiting in the sidelines.
Thank you Paul for putting us on the fish and to Richard for his non stop work throughout the day. -

Report on-board Silver Spray II
May has been an excellent month so far with much more settled weather and a chance to get offshore. On the reefs bream have shown up in increasing numbers and size. With the bream are a few nice smoothies both common and starry into double figures. We are also picking up undulate and thornback rays which certainly put a bend into a bream rod.

Offshore there have been excellent numbers of cod – perhaps this will be another year link the “brittle star” year of 2008. Most have been in the 4-7lb range but there are enough double figure fish to keep life interesting. Best so far was our April fish of the month a 21lber which fell to Joe Noke. The cod are voracious feeders and don’t give the Pollack a chance to get to the lures leading to cod only wreck trips! Colin for Portsmouth hooked up what he thought was the wreck while drifting with a mackerel flapper near slack. It however turned out to be a 32lb ling which is a new boat record. Colin Low is now known as Coling to his mates!
We have now completed our first Alderney trips of the year. As well as the excellent wrecking on the trip over and back the fishing for flatfish was superb with good numbers of turbot. Although the size was generally 3-7lb there were enough 10lb fish to keep interest up with a good number of smaller fish being returned to fight another day. As well as the turbot we had some nice brill to 5lb. What promised to be a monster turbot turned out to be a large and very energetic blonde ray.
Silver Spray has been out of the water for a major refit which has included two new Iveco Neef 420Hp engines giving a top speed of 29 knots and a 2 knot increase in cruising speed while being much quieter than our previous Cats. We have also increased fishing space by a third by adding walk around rails on the foredeck. The livebait system has been increased to the same capacity as Silver Spray ll and we have invested in more large Iceytek coolboxes to keep fish fresh. To top things off the navigation electronics have been updated with the latest Raymarine digital displays and finally the galley has been refitted. Quite a project which was completed in 3 weeks and which we hope our anglers will enjoy during the summer.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Silver Spray II

Report on-board Just Mary
Hi All, our first back to back weekend trips of the new Season since my return from abroad in late April saw us targeting the hard fighting Black Bream in Poole Bay right on our doorstep ! Both successful days with reasonable numbers of fish landed in big Spring tides and westerly winds. All female fish being returned and bright Blue male fish of good size being reserved for the table. They are in prime condition at this time of year and probably taste better now than at any other time of the Season. Light tackle, spinning rods and fixed spool reels work well, with the most Sport being enjoyed by those Anglers using the paternoster rigs with light leads and size 4 or size 2 hooks.....no bigger than that ! Bait is a cut piece of ragworm for scent and a cigarette sized strip piece of calamari fluttering on the hook. A 'machine gun' bite as the Bream attack the bait then lift the rod tip and.....you're IN ! They are normally lip hooked and fight all the way to the net, Great Sport ! Book your trip soon to enjoy this light tackle fishing ..... All the best, Malc.
