If i'm honest i'm glad of a small break Septembers Weather Continued to elongate the summer which was great.
The fishing has been pretty good too which is always a bonus!!
Neap tides saw some nice Blonde Rays and fantastic Breaming and plaiceing. The quality of the bream this year has been superb with many fish over the 3lb Mark.
Plaice still feature strongly in our catches although perhaps not the monsters of the last couple of years but fish of 4lb+ are a daily occurance.
We had a visit to the wrecks the other day which produced Bream, Pollack, Ling and Bass. The pollack were in fantstic condition and numbers for this time of year so things are looking good for the winter.
As Ocotber pushes on our focus will move on from the plaice and bream and concentrate on the Bass and with the iminent arrival of the squid we are in for a fun month.
September also saw Wymouth proudly hold both the European and World Championships. It was an honour for me to be lead boat for both these events and the whole Weymouth fleet did the competitors proud.
The Europeans was one by 19 year old Anthony Giacomini from Italy, this lad can seriously fish and his attention to detail was unbelievable, subsequently Anthony went on to win World Championship Gold in the Youth section.
The worlds was also a great week but stressful at times with language barriers etc. This event boght together the worlds elite and it was truly an honour to be envolved. England were victorious in the team event which was a fantastic result with Colin Searle's also picking up individual Silver.
The youth team for England was made up of 3 lads from weymouth, one lad from poole and one lad from minehead put in a fantastic performance to claim the bronze behind Italy and France respectively. Weymouth lad Jordan Davies also took individual Bronze.
On recent trip we managed two cracking Turbot on a relatively unfished piece of ground so watch this space for more big turbot. The best, a fish of 16lb 12oz and PB fell to Jason Perry pictured. -

Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins

Hi All ! A weekend of two totally different days so much so that you would hardly think that it was the same week or the same month ! Singles/Individuals Day on Saturday with the regulars including Tom and Johnnie the Brickies, Kev the Chippie, Gary the Builder and the 'overseas contingent' of Mac from the Emerald Isle and Alec from Jockland (and I only ribbed him a bit about the Vote outcome - honest ! Anyway Saturday was misty, murky and downright miserable ....but....the Sea was flat calm.....not a breath.....so with a nice Neap tide we set off down to the West off the Jurassic Coast. Slow start but then.....wow ! Big Tope, Big Congers, Big Rays and some Big Bream.....and plenty of rod bending, arm wrenching action for the boys onboard. We must have had over 200lb of fish and pulling them up in 120 foot of water is not to be sniffed at.....you come and try it ! Great day and I'm pleased that Dan, Tom's mate, took some photos coz my old iPhone 3 had a wobbly moment and didn't store any of my 20 odd pics.....grrrrrrrr !

Sunday was totally different, bright Sun, no mist or fog or drizzle and it was hot ! Sadly it was also breezy and from the North East, and I hate bloody Easterlies. Even so we fished a deep mark out towards the Needles and recorded some interesting fish. Big Pout and a solitary Whiting mean that the Autumn is here and we'll have Cod soon. The rest was an Undulate for the Organiser Colin Moors plus a small Conger and some Bream. I think the hire rod lads best enjoyed the Mackerel and Scad fishing and the wind never did die off like the good old Met Office said it would.....40 million pound Computer and they still can't get it right !
Until next time, tight lines ! Malc..... -

September Report:

Despite a few spots of high wind since my last report the temperatures have been very high for this time of year and the summer fish have continued to keep the rods bending over the last 4 weeks. Out in the channel we are still seeing cod in the high teens pretty much every trip which is a welcome surprise as, as I mentioned last month, they have usually disappeared by now. Along with them we have had good results on both pollock and ling. Recently Pete Knight boated a monster 26lb 8oz ling whist at anchor fishing for congers, the third biggest one we have ever had aboard Silver Spray. Mackerel continue to be a problem up and down the coast and even over by France and Channel Islands where they are always in abundance we have struggled to find many. Despite this our multi day trips to Alderney and Cherbourg are producing good results on turbot, tope and bream still. Our last trip to Cherbourg was hard going on the second day and we barely saw a fish until 4pm when we anchored a little inshore wreck which went absolutely mad in the last hour of the tide. Matt Todd beat his own boat record black bream onboard Silver Spray II, which he set on the same trip last year, with a whopper weighing in at 6lb 2oz. That is sure going to be hard to beat! Along with that the guys got stuck into cod, pollock, congers, bass and even more bream all on light gear which made it even more exciting, a well earned result. Things show no sign of slowing down over the next month and I’m looking forward to some light line species fishing and more monster bream out on the wrecks.

The latest BIG PLAICE competition on Flamer IV was won by 57 year old Danny Curtis from Bournemouth with a 6Ib Plaice(pictured) and new Personal Best for Danny.Danny was using 8Ib class tackle with a short trace that had lots of coloured attractor beads on with a size 2/0 Sakuma Stinger hook baited with ragworm and squid strip. Several 4Ib plus Plaice were caught in the competition. These BIG PLAICE competitions have proved so popular that I have put up three dates in 2015.
