Report on-board Just Mary
The Black Bream are showing up now in numbers in Poole Bay, Dancing Ledge and other local hotspots. This is the time to get onboard a Poole Angling Charter Boat and catch these fish in prime condition. Aboard 'Just Mary' we practice the 'catch and release' system for all Female fish (full of roe at this time of year), small male fish and of course any undersize fish less than 25cm. Anglers are encouraged to take only as many fish as they need to eat and thus try to conserve future stocks. These Black Bream were almost wiped out in the seventies due to overfishing by Anglers and surely the only way forward is to look after our stock as well as we possibly can. Sadly not everyone shares my views. With high pressure, a warm Sun and settled seas can there really be anything better than Black Bream fishing with light rod and reel ? Personally I enjoy every minute of being afloat in those conditions at this time of year.....come and join us !

A lovely summer wrecking trip produced plenty of fish which included Pollack,Ling,Cod and Bass. The fish were caught on a variety of lures but the evolusion red gills in colours of Pink,Black and Orange, Blue and White accounted for the majority of the fish with the good old Rhubarb and Custard sidewinder also catching it's share.A mention to Nick Gunn who I think caught a fish on every drift using a Black and Orange Red Gill, his only dissapointing moment was when a 20Ib plus Cod escaped just before it was about to go in the landing. Pictured is Kevin Clark also did well and caught his Personal Best Bass weighing 6Ib 2oz on a Blue and White evolusion Red Gill.

Anglers travel from far and wide to sample the flatty fishing off Weymouth, Kerry and Chris Delph were no exeptions as they traveled all the way from Norfolk and were rewarded for their efforts.Kerry caught her first ever Plaice and Turbot as did husband Chris.Kerry who was over the moon with her 3Ib 4oz Plaice catch and is pictured.Another example was Bob(Harry) Potter from Wolverhampton and Sean Evans and Hugh from Manchester who all caught Plaice.

Mackerel still a bit sparse, so we had to fall back on some squid baits. We anchored offshore for some reef fishing and picked up a few nice Ling and larger Pollock just starting to show along with the usual Whiting and Pouting. Hopefully it can only get better from now on.

on Flamer IV (Weymouth, Dorset)

Report on-board Flamer IV
Hi, April saw some excellent fish caught in particular big Undulate Rays and Spurdogs. Due to the poor water clarity the flatty fishing was very up and down but we still managed a few good Plaice, Turbot and Brill catches. At the end of the month the wrecking really picked up with some excellent Pollack fishing. Flamer IV Fish of the Month was awarded to Jon Patten with his 19Ib 14oz Undulate Ray(pictured). 24 different species have been caught so far this year on Flamer IV. During May I would expect the flatty fishing to improve along with the wreck trips for Pollack,Cod and Ling, and some Bass on the bigger tides. The inshore reefs will see the Black Bream arrive in numbers and the excellent Ray fishing should continue.

Report on-board Flamer IV
On only my second wrecking trip of the year it was nice to find some good water clarity and plenty of Pollack. The Pollack were caught on a variety of lures but the best lure on the day was certainly the Bubble Gum Pink Red Gill.Star of the show was Earl Coates who caught 14 Pollack which included two double figure Pollack weighing 12Ib 1oz(pictured) and 11Ib 11oz..Earl's successful tackle was a 15Ib class rod with a flying collar rig with a 12 foot trace and pink lure and of course his undoubted skill. Other double figure Pollack were caught by John Billett 12Ib,Russell Salmon 10Ib 14oz,Dave Kingman 11Ib 4oz. " SYMPATHY" must go to Flamer IV regular Rick Hawkins who was fishing next to Earl but could not catch a Pollack for love nor money,"Better luck next time Rick".

Fishing Report by Paul Smith
on Rapid Fisher (Poole, Dorset)
Apr 2014 by Paul Smith
Report on-board Rapid Fisher
A break in the weather & Rapid Fisher was quick off the mark to race to a set of banks to fish for blonde rays. The crew for the day were the local oyster fisherman from Poole.
View Boats Page
After a quick steam out at 20 knots we arrived at our mark & the boat was set up to drop anchor & lines were dropped over the side in anticipation. A few small blondes resulted, enough to keep the lads busy, but i knew there were some bigger ones to be had.
As the tide picked up I decided to try a close by wreck to try for pollack & with twin 320hp nanni engines we were there in the time it took to drink a cuppa!!
Unfortunately after a couple of drifts only one small pollack! I made the decision not to go further to other wrecks as I had a feeling they was going to be the same, so I made the decision to go back to the banks to try and find the bigger blondes. For the rest of the afternoon we were in to blonde rays (the biggest falling to Rob at a shade over 18lbs) and believe it or not a bigger pollack than on the wreck!! Two of the lads hooked into something big and whilst one of them only had it on for a few minutes it managed to go through 30lb braid. The other was played for around 45 minutes and got close to the boat twice but again whatever it was it got the better of 30lb braid.
All in all a good day where the experience of the skipper paid dividend.
Tight lines to all my customers for the coming season
Paul

James Atkinson age 24 landed his first ever Undulate Ray which weighed in at 17Ib 8oz(pictured) on his first trip aboard Flamer IV. The big Ray set a new record for the Appledore Ship Builders Angling Club. James was using 20Ib class tackle with a Sakuma hook pennel rig baited with a cocktail of Ammo squid, mackerel and launce fillet. The ray was returned alive. James dad David landed a 15Ib 3oz Blonde Ray on the same trip. During the same trip several rays were caught which included a Personal Best 12 Ib 4oz Undulate for Simon Garnett .
