HI, ALL, AT LAST - the weather looks like it is settling down so I hope to get you out fishing. IN March it is the time for big Turbot and Plaice. Rays,Spurdogs,Bull Huss, Congers etc on the reefs and Pollack and Ling on the Wrecks. So Book your Place/s and Trip/s Now.
March dates with places available - Flatty Trips with places available - 20th - 9 places left,
21st - 2 places left, 24th - 8 places left, 26th - 10 places left, 27th - 8 places left, 29th - 2 places left,
30th - 4 places left,
Wreck Trips - March 23rd - 3 places Left,
Reef/Bank Trips - March 25th, 31st - 10 places on each of these three dates.
TURBOT TIME - Spring is the time to try for the big Turbot like the one being held up by Trevor Lockyer which weighed in at 24Ib 8oz.
PLAICE will be arriving now So Don't Miss out on the chance to catch a big spotty.

First time out for more than 3 weeks. Straight out to the whiting ground, the big tides and murky water, they were few and far between with just about 6 keepers. Plan B anchored up as close to a wreck as I dared go, and the lads were straight into conger with Chris reeks landing the first and the biggest of the day a conger well over the 50lb mark the scales decided to die on me. Mike Gray from Wells had his PB a conger in the low 30s , Alan from Okehamton had a battle for half an hour and in the end losing his conger it must have been huge. 9 conger were brought to the boat by 7 anglers. All this rod bending sport and we were less than 5 mile from port. Its a pity we did"ent have a few more whiting for the pan but hey that's fishing. Tight lines and good fishing to you all.

Well what an awful spell of weather we have had.Lets hope for better weather in March were the target species will be Turbot on the Shambles Bank and Plaice on the mussell beds,Rays,Spurdogs,Bull Huss and Conger on the Reef/Banks,with trips to the wrecks for Pollack and Ling.So take a look at my schudule/diary pages on my web sites for places and dates available.For those who have not already Check Out my New web site flamer4fishing.co.uk

I’m sure you won’t be overly shocked to hear I haven’t been out much since my last monthly report, a grand total of 2 trips as it happens. Both of which saw us leave port at first light and return early to make the most of short windows in the terrible weather we have been having. What we lacked in weather we certainly made up for in spur dogs as anglers Kevin Griffiths and Roger Clarke landed the 2 biggest spur dogs I have ever seen on the same trip. The pair were using large mackerel cut baits on single hook flowing traces of 100lb mono. After sporting fights the fish were safely brought onboard and weighed in at 22lb 4oz and 25lb 8oz respectively for Kevin and Roger. Both fish were heavily pregnant with pups and were returned alive and kicking after a couple of minutes. Roger’s fish would have beaten the current British Record for a boat caught spur dog had we brought it ashore, I’ve had a couple of different reports of the record size but it would have beaten it by at least a pound. Both days produced plenty of blonde rays as well up into the mid twenties along with a handful of bull huss and congers to keep rod tips bouncing. Let’s hope we get all the bad weather out of the way now so we can enjoy a nice summer again!!

Report on-board Out The Blue
Another year another boat - those of you that have fished with Terry on the Raptor in the past may be intrigued to try out his latest aquisition. This stunning traditional Lochin 33 'Out The Blue'. She may not have the speed of the Raptor but she still pushes on at a fair lick and is capable of speeds up to 22 knots. As you can see from the photographs she has a very large open deck with plenty of room for landing those big Blues.

Managed to get away just before sunrise this morning with winds at about force 3. Only fished for about 5 hours but well worth it with plenty blonde rays up to 24lb, undulates, bull huss and 2 monster spur dog weighing in at 22lb 4oz and 25lb 8oz. Both were large female fish and were returned alive and kicking after a quick photo. 25lb 8oz smashes the british record but as angler Roger Clarke said it would be a tragedy to kill such a beuatiful fish just for the sake of a record. After this the wind got up to gale force 8 and we had a bumpy steam in but a good day had by all!!!!!

Just like when I wrote last month’s report it is still quite mild for this time of year with the temperature nudging 8 or 9 degrees some days. Unfortunately high winds from the southwest and, as I’m sure you have noticed, plenty of rain have called most of my trips off. I managed to get out on 2 days before the New Year which resulted in some of the best winter fishing I have seen this season, typical that this good fishing should be going on during the worst weather period. 5 cod took a mix of squid and cuttlefish bait over the two trips ranging from 13-21lb. Along with these we saw plenty of by-catch in the form of whiting, rays, smoothound and bull huss. This winter I have seen more congers on the open ground than ever before, some days it’s not uncommon to see 20 or 30 whilst trying to target the cod. Last Saturdays trip came with neap tides and good weather which gave me the first chance to get out to the offshore banks and target the spur dogs. Lee Cullen managed top fish on the day with a fine 18lber, 7 other spurs also made an appearance. When the tide died away and the spurs went off the feed the fishing didn’t slow down with even more congers, whiting, blonde rays, bull huss and even a tope taking the mackerel and squid baits. Mark Turner got a welcome surprise when winding up to change his bait as half way up he hooked into a large squid, it was weighed ashore at 3lb 9oz!! Hopefully the worst of the weather is behind us and we can look forward to getting out to the offshore marks again soon.
