    Report on-board Supanova II

Some cracking sport from Weymouth in June and July.

The wrecks threw up some cracking Cod and continued decent Pollack but the biggest surprise was 3 Coalfish in a week! These beautiful creatures used to be common some 20 years ago from Weymouth but in the last 12 years I have seen just one until this year, maybe they are on the comeback!

The wrecking in the last week has started to tail off, attention will now turn to the inshore stuff which has also been good. The smaller tides have produced some fantastic Plaice fishing with Supanova's first 7lber falling to Pete Green from Bristol. A cracking fish and one I have been waiting a long long time for.

Bream in the last week has really come to life both on the drift and at anchor. When drifting we have been picking up some cracking Red Gurnards and at anchor a nice few undulates and tope.

The Shambles has been a little bit Patchy but with Turbot and increasing numbers of Brill still there for those that wish to sit it out.

This last week's spring tides has seen some cracking bass fishing with live Mackerel best fell to Mark Coker with a fish of 10lb 7oz.

The weather until now has been superb which we are all very grateful of down in sunny Weymouth, we are also very very grateful of the continued support all you anglers give us. Keep it Up!!!!

Picture are me and my Dad with my first ever Blue Shark caught on a bus man's Holiday to MIlford Haven recently.

We fished with Nick O'Sullivan on Celtic Wildcat. Great boat, Great skipper if you want the sharks he is the man without a doubt. His details are on this site.

    Tight LInes,

    Lyle

  • 20/07/2013 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

20 Jul 2013 by Malcolm Collins

    Report on-board Just Mary

A slightly challenging weekend 20th/21st July 2013 aboard 'Just Mary' from Poole due to the Easterly winds which saw many boats return to the Harbour for various reasons. However the Sun was shining on us so we persevered with 'Plan A', which, as always, is to find my Anglers some Quality Fish whatever the conditions or abilities of those onboard. You pay me for a Service and I will always do my best to give you the best possible Service that I can provide for you. Saturday 20th was to see us doing two booked trips, one five hour 0900/1400 and the other a six hour 1500/2100 hours. My first trip was a stag party booked by Cormac Meenehan and friends including the Groom-to-be from Portsmouth. Fishing an Inshore mark we landed Mackerel, Black Bream, Dogfish and two nice Undulate Rays. Caught by the Groom-to-be you ask (?) sadly not, but both fell to fresh mackerel baits to 6/0 hooks on long flowing traces for the Organiser Cormac Meenehan. First fish, a male, was weighed at 14lb 4oz, (SeaAngler Shimano Mission Accomplished Award Qualifier) photographed and gently returned, second fish, a female about the same size, was wing hooked so was gently unhooked and released. Second trip was six hire rod lads from Blandford who work together in a Supermarket plus my old mate Phil Butt and two of his mates. The wind was forecast to ease, by me, so we pushed off to a mark further South of our morning's mark. We found the Mackerel then anchored up for other Summer species. We landed Gurnard, Dogfish, Black Bream, Plaice and now three Rays. Two Small-Eyed and another Undulate, two for Phil, one of each species and one for his mate, a Small-Eyed of 10lb 4oz. All fell to fresh mackerel on a 6/0 hook to a long flowing trace. The Undulate was a decent size so was weighed, photographed and gently released and likewise the Small-Eyed. That ended a long Saturday with a total of five Rays and some happy Anglers. Sunday's trip was organised by Colin Moors from Poole Council. I brought a box of 144 tea bags plus extra milk but it's not always true what they say about Council blokes having tea in their veins ! After finding just enough Mackerel to make a start we headed off to a normally reliable mark, so did the rest of the Poole Fleet that were out ! We had some decent Bream, Gurnard, Dogfish and a Bass but not enough quality to keep us there so after a couple of hours we moved on to another mark on our own. Almost instantly my move to another mark paid off and we started landing quality fish ! A total of SEVEN Rays, Small-Eyed and Undulates to 14lb, Tope, more Mackerel and better size, a decent sized Smoothound, a small Conger Eel, and a total of ELEVAN Summer Species. Phew ! That was busy at times and nice to see, so much so that we did a bit of extra time because the Fishing was so enjoyable for everyone. So a decent weekends fishing ended with calm seas, having started with Force 5 Easterly's, and some more happy Anglers aboard 'Just Mary' from Poole. Not a bad weekend for my 'Wooden Warrior' ............see you soon !
