Is it the return of the Plaice?

Well yesterday (16th April) Was are first go at looking for a Plaice or two and with a few other boats trying earlier the week before are hopes were high that we might find some of these red spotty fish. We wasn't disappointed after an hour waiting for the tide to start changing for the better the fish soon started biting and we managed to pull a few out, what was even better all the fish we caught were full of pea mussel so is this the return of are once famous mussel beds? At the moment it is still very early to tell if the Plaice are going to be around all year and happy with there new homes so are hopes cant get to high just yet but time will tell, but im going to put a few dates up for Plaice and Turbot so we can keep testing the area to see if we are lucky enough to have them back.

    Dates for Plaice,Turbot and Brill.

May 15th 11 hour trip (2 two trys for the Plaice) £60pp

    May 22nd £55pp

    June 4th £55pp

    June 19th £55pp

  • 03/2018 Fishing Report by Lewis hodder on Pegasus (Lyme Regis, Dorset)

    Mar 2018 by Lewis hodder

    Report on-board Pegasus

The first 3 weeks of March were a complete right off to the weather for us, we didn't get out until the 21st!
On the Inshore grounds we are still seeing lots of good sized Whiting, the Pollack have shown up on the reefs and we have managed a few double figure fish the best being just shy of 13lb. Other than Whiting at anchor there are lots of Bull Huss into double figures, conger, the odd early smoothound and a few thornback rays, on a recent species comp we managed 12 species which isn't bad for March.
The wrecking continues to be good when we can get out there with lots of double figure pollack coming to the net with the odd Ling and early Cod showing.
Lets hope the weather improves going into April!

  • 21/03/2018 Fishing Report by Gareth Jones on Wild Frontier 2 (Weymouth, Dorset)

21 Mar 2018 by Gareth Jones

    Report on-board Wild Frontier 2

Every now and then you get the perfect fishing day. One of mine was on 21/03/2018 on the one and only Wild Frontier. It was a beautiful sunny day with Weymouth Bay being mill pond flat calm. Clem sped off to one of his favoured Western wrecks.. Two and bit hours later we started fishing; first drift, two decent pollack. I was at the front starboard side of the oat with my work colleague and mate next to me. Over the next five or so hours, I caught 13 pollack between 5 and 13 lbs and my mate Dave caught 11. I also caught a bonus cod as well as another club member who caught a bigger cod. The sea state remained flat calm until home time, when the breeze picked up a bit. For most of the day I used a 6" yellowish lure with a straight tail (no paddle). Great day, great company, great result. Thanks Clem

  • 26/03/2018 Fishing Report by Philip Higgins on Mistress Linda / San Gina3 (Poole, Dorset)

26 Mar 2018 by Philip Higgins

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

At last we managed to get a few days afloat and the fishing proved very rewarding, on the Saturday we ventured out to the wrecks in what was very challenging conditions far worse than forecast but once there the Pollack fishing was very good with several fish being landed each drift the best of the day went to Ian Napier at 14lb 6 ozs, after a few hrs and plenty of Pollack onboard we chose to head back inshore and see if the Spurdogs were still around. At anchor the fishing started very slow but just as we thought about heading home the Spurdogs started to feed and several fish between 17 and 20lb were landed and quickly returned then that man Ian Napier hooked into a good fish that put his light gear to the test and was rewarded with a PB Spurdog of 24lb 10ozs. Sunday we opted to go after the Spurs again and were duly rewarded with 4 of the Poole Dolphins AC landing PB Spurdogs to 19lb along with a few Rays, spurred on (pardon the pun) by our recent success the crew on Monday wanted to sample the sport and we again headed out to the same area and again were rewarded with more success and another 2 anglers setting new PBs for Spurdogs , due to the very light tackle we were using the strength of the tide forced us to move closer to shore out of the tide and once at anchor we managed a small Turbot and a Brill to round the day off. Overall a very successful weekend and it felt fantastic to actual be at sea fishing instead of looking at weather patterns.
