Report on-board Just Mary
Hi All, disappointing for January with a lack of opportunities to get out and try for Cod and Whiting plus Conger and Rays so we now get closer to the time of the year when we 'lay-up' and prepare 'JUST MARY' for a refit and refurbishment. So the time of year approaches when we get out the power tools, get in a new stock of brushes and look for sunny days to repaint the Boat. A few jobs this year to do including a re-caulk of some parts of the deck plus a refurbishment of the cabin roof plus the usual rubbing down and repainting of the hull. The antifouling still remains the last job prior to re-launching. So we will be ashore and busy until May now when the New Season starts and we begin with the Black Bream. Look forward to seeing you all then, thanks, Malc.

January report;

Considering the typically awful January weather we had we did rather well nJanuary an managed seven trips, 4 out on the wrecks and 3 on the inshore marks.
The wrecking was very good when conditions were favourable, although we had to go a long way to find the better sized fish we boated lots of good sized hard fighting Pollack up to 16lb 6oz.
Inshore fishing was typical of January, murky water and lots of ravenous whiting up to the 3lb mark, a few Thornback and Undulate Rays the best of which were 10lb 4oz and 16lb 10oz respectively, there have been lots of Bull Huss around on the rougher ground as usual going up to 11lb and strap congers amongst them with the odd bigger Eel the best in January was estimated at 50lb and released at the side of the boat. Sadly we didn't see any cod in January.
Fishing should be more of the same for February but hopefully we will get good weather on some smaller tides to venture out to the offshore reefs and banks in search of a few Spurdogs.

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
Hi and welcome to the New Year, the weather has restricted fishing to just a few odd days . The fishing outside the Harbour has remained steady with the Whiting getting smaller but still plentiful these are bolstered by some good Rays and Congers which seem to be on the small side, on one such trip recently we landed all 5 Rays ( Thornback, Blonde, Small Eyed, Spotted and a cracking 18lb 6ozs Undulate) further off to sea there have been some good Spurdogs, Rays, Bull Huss and Eels for those willing to travel the extra distance.

As is the case for this time of year it's all about stealing a day when the weather allows. We have managed a couple of days and the fishing has been fantastic. Brilliant Blondes to 30lb and Huss inshore on the banks along with a steady run of tasty whiting has proved great sport for those not wanting to travel miles. Add into that Undulate, Thornback, spotted and Small eyed Rays, congers even a late or early Bream have made an appearance here or there!!
The wrecking is showing fantastic signs compared to last winter, Steady runs of decent fit Pollack have been around coming to a vast array of lures keeping all on board busy with rod bending action. When I have been filleting the fish on the way in they have showed little signs of Roe inside which means the best is still to come. On the weekends trip Terry Hickman managed a nice stroke of luck when a 16lb Turbot snaffled his sidewinder. As you can tell by the pic what a cracking fish!!
We have spaces over the next month on the following trips;
27th Jan Big Blonde Rays £55pp
28th Jan A mixed inshore day £55pp
8th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
11th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
18th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
25th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
26th Feb Wrecking Pollack £75pp
2nd March Wrecking Pollack £75pp
Many thanks to all that support Weymouth through the tough old winters! See you soon!

My first wrecking trip of 2018 produced a good catch of Pollack with plenty of double figure fish. Blue and White and Rhubarb and Custard coloured Red Gill and Sidewinder lures proved to be the best on the day. Pictured is Rick Hawkins with his best Pollack weighing 13Ib 9oz.

Report on-board Silver Spray II
First report of the year will only be a brief one due to all the wind and rain we have had since Christmas which has restricted us to just half a dozen trips. Fishing at anchor is still producing good numbers of whiting up to just over the 3lb mark, slack water being the most productive time with white feathers or hok-eyes the rig of choice. We rounded out 2017 with some more bass both on the drift and at anchor on live pout. It's just catch and release now until July, perhaps the entire year, we shall find out in March after a further review of stock numbers. Last week we managed our first trip to target the spurdogs successfully. Although a large swell running from the southwest kept the blonde rays fairly quiet as the gear was lifted off the bottom frequently, the spurs didn’t disappoint with 5 fish landed all between 17-20lb. There are also some big pollock starting to appear, February can be a good month to try and target that new personal best providing we get the weather. Alderney and Cherbourg trips are filling up fast so drop me an email at info@silverspraycharters.com if you would like a list of remaining dates.
