Top trip for last month was certainly our final trip over to Alderney for the year. I've always liked going across the channel this late in the season, providing you can get a bit of favourable weather, the fishing is never disappointing. Day one saw a decent enough session at anchor on a wreck for congers and bream, unfortunately no ling this time around which was disappointing as we had plenty the week before. Day Two started off with Bob Hall's couches bream double header, the most we have ever had on the whole boat for the day is 2 so this was something special. The catches continued throughout the day however and we ended up with 19 couches coming to the net, including ten for Ian Napier who was just hoping to catch his first one on this trip. Plenty of hard fighting black bream of varying sizes were caught by all throughout the day mostly returned for next year. A manic session on the anchor saw tope up to 50lb, bull huss, more bream and even a bonus plaice (only the second one I've ever seen in Alderney). Day Three started off with a few hours on the banks which produced half a dozen flats, tub gurnards and cuttlefish, nothing massive but we have had worse days than that this year. Then off to anchor up a big rock mark which was very productive with huss, bream, congers and plenty more big tope. To round the day off we did an hours breaming back by the island, a slow start turned into a frantic half an hour with the bream taking anything you put down there. Average size was way up on the previous day at around 3lb. Bob Hall had the last say of the day with a couches bream and black bream double this time. Day four and the weather unfortunately turned for the worst and we were faced with a small neap tide against 20 knots of westerly. The prospect of swinging round and round the anchor rope all day didn't appeal so we headed back across to Poole Bay to finish the trip up in calmer waters. Out of only a handful of mackerel the lads managed 6 small eyed rays, 1 undulate, 2 smoothounds and would you believe it a 15lb 4oz turbot!?!?! All the time we have spent steaming around looking for those flatfish far and wide and we catch the biggest one of the year right on our doorstep. That’s going to be a tough trip to beat. We are now taking bookings for Alderney 2018 so drop us an email for a list of dates. info@silverspraycharters.com

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

Poole continues to enjoy some excellent Plaice fishing in and outside of the Harbour with fish being caught to 4lb along with plenty of Garfish action, local angler Keith set a new PB when he landed an Octopus in very shallow water. Last weekend we ventured out to the wrecks in search of big Black Bream and hoping to see a Red Bream, drifting over the wrecks proved fruitless but once at anchor the fishing took off with Bream to 5lb 4ozs coming aboard all day until the tide got going again, over slack water Tope came on the feed. Sadly we did not see a Red Bream. Soon we will be heading out seeking those big winter Cod, if you would like to join me on one of these trips please call.
    all the best

  • 11/10/2017 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

11 Oct 2017 by Malcolm Collins

    Report on-board Just Mary

Hi All, as we head swiftly into Autumn and beyond into Winter I would urge my Anglers to watch www.windy.com to see the constant low pressure systems that are thrown at us from across the Atlantic. In my humble opinion it will become a case of taking every opportunity that is offered to us to get out to Sea, there will be many days when we are to remain on the mooring unable to venture out. So if the Skipper says, 'There's an opportunity to go fishing'..... then get off your backside and go ! You cannot plan ahead for good days and your booking may well stand a good chance of being cancelled and rebooked.....maybe several times. So my message is simple, if an opportunity arises then get on 'Just Mary' and come fishing, the good days are sure to be outnumbered by the bad days when it comes to the opportunity to get out to Sea.....ta Malc.

Peter Gillett and friends who had their orginal angling break blown out in June re scheduled for October and despite at times dealing with breezy conditions fished all 5 days catching 23 different species. David Barton caught 19 different species and won the friendly/competitive competition with 516 points, Runner up was Lee Page with 416 points.Peter Gillett and David Barton both had Hat Tricks of Turbot and Brill respectfully during a drifting session on a bank.Twice during the week Peter Gillett and Russell Latimer had un stoppable runs from which must have been Porbeagle Sharks. There was also some big rays lost as well. With all this going on it only added to the banter and Mickey taking that went on all week with every one enjoying thems selves. The lads have booked up their Angling Break for 2018.David Barton is pictured with his 17Ib 8oz Blonde Ray which he caught while drifting a bank.

Weymouth Angling Breaks - Book Now, Don't miss Out,*** NOW TAKING BOOKINGS FOR 2018 ***
A few days away fishing out of Weymouth along with the social side is a nice trip to do.The variety of fishing and the amount of different species caught at Weymouth is probably second to none. There are plenty of places to stay which are angler friendly and some excellent places to wine and dine around the harbour and in Weymouth Town centre.

If you want to try a Weymouth Angling Break then contact me, I cater for whole boat charters and individuals.

Planning your trip well in advance is essential you need to arrange your boat booking and your accommodation as early as possible to avoid disappointment, some of my regular groups plan their trips at least 12 months in advance, this allows them to discuss with me the best tides for the type of fishing they are targeting.

Rays still dominate the inshore fishing on the outer banks with plenty of Undulates and Small Eyed Rays being caught closer inshore along the piers Plaice ,Gurnards, Bream and the sought after Trigger Fish remain the main focus and if your are lucky a Turbot or Codlng can be landed, towards the eastern marks of the beaches good size Bream are being caught in good numbers.
