After a couple of attempts we finally caught our 1st Trigger Fish, this was landed by a young lady from the Lymington Junior Angling club during a boat fishing training session organised by Steve Batchelor , during this session the adults were kept busy with all the juniors landing fish after fish. It was good to see the improvement through the day with the expert tuition provided by the adults. During this trip 2 new Lymington SAC club records were set Trigger Fish by a junior and a Couch's Bream (new species). At the end of the trip prizes were awarded and all the juniors won prizes ranging from Rods to tackle vouchers. Yesterday we did the same and landed more Trigger Fish along with lots of Bream and Plaice

What a full on month this has been, on our inshore sea fishing trips there have been plenty of small bait robbing bream. These are great fun to fish for but expensive on bait and very frustrating, mackeral are scarce at the moment but there are plenty of small scad in their place. Along the Dorset beaches Plaice and Gurnards are the target with the hope of a Trigger fish. On the outer banks Tope are providing the sport along with Ray's. Local wreck fishing trips from Poole are producing plenty of small to medium size Congers. Today we had an unplanned species hunt with Squid, Cuttlefish, Big Brown Crabs, Tope, Conger, Ray's, Plaice and lots of Bream, Scad and a few bonus Mackeral along with lots of banter.

    August '16:

Although august has been quite windy we have been lucky enough not to cancel any trips, the fish have been abundant right the way from Sandbanks chain ferry to Cherbourg breakwater. Talking of Cherbourg we have seen the return of the bass on some of the wrecks after a bizarrely quiet season last year. Fishing in 200 feet with a live mackerel really is an exciting way to target the species, especially when they average 7lb. Tope fishing has taken off in recent weeks with most days seeing in excess of 50 fish up to 50lb or so. The abundance of fresh mackerel and scad across the grounds certainly helps to whip them up into a feeding frenzy. Out on the wrecks we are still going strong with plenty of monster pollock taking the bigger lures and the last of the years cod still popping their heads up. It seems to be that we are seeing some of the biggest fish of the year now in the high teens when usually we would be thinking about winding the longer range trips down. Wayne Mcmanus landed another john dory of around 4lb on a recent Cherbourg trip, as one of the rarer fish we catch they are always a welcome sight. Still got 3 more trips across the channel before the end of the season, hoping for some good weather so we can target those big autumn wreck bream. I have spaces to go on combined Alderney and Cherbourg trips in September and October, if you're interested give me a call on 07787 375386.

He did well as the fish were playing hard to get but we did see some other Pollack,Bass,Cod during the day. Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

With the weekends forecast coinciding with very small tides offshore fishing seemed to good an opportunity to miss. Taking advantage of this we headed out to sea with several stops for mackeral which we had trouble finding close to shore so heho we just went with what bait we had. At our chosen anchor point with the anchor deployed several lads decided to try for bait and fortunately mackeral came in thick and fast, as soon as the big baits hit the bottom the fishing kicked off with large congers, big Tope and outstanding size bream coming in so fast I never got back in the wheelhouse for the duration fo the Saturday trip much to the amusement of the lads, several good fish were lost due to bite offs. Sunday was much the same but the tide seemed to be much more vicious but as soon as it cut a little the action kicked in with eels, Tope and more big bream coming onboard. It was a pleasure to watch both groups returning most of the bream only the deeply hooked ones were kept, over the 2 days the bream fishing was exceptional with the best being 4lb 12ozs (returned alive). A tiring weekend for me but fantastic fishing for the boys. Once moored up we were inspected by the SIFCA officers and with nothing to worry about and their good professional approach we had a few laughs and went our separate ways, as a skipper I welcome these inspections.
Check out the website for spaces on forthcoming trips.

  • 15/08/2016 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

    Report on-board Just Mary

Hi All, arriving back late Friday night from a trip abroad to visit my extended family and straight back to work early Saturday morning ! Due to some slack Neap tides we stuck to Plan A and went three miles South of the Anvil with fresh Mackerel and anchored an Offshore bank. The forecast showed the winds slacking but they picked up and we coped with conditions that 'Just Mary' thrives in. She just sits there unmoved by the conditions and is such a solid stable Sea Boat. A move to the 'Slates' produced Conger Eel and Paul Green is pictured with one. We moved again to the 'Spoils' and caught Tope on fresh Mackerel again before another move to Ballard for Undulates. Sunday the wind died down and with a party from the West Midlands travelling to Poole plus some locals we again went South of the Jurassic Coast. We landed Mackerel, Gurnard, Undulate Rays, Black Bream, Pouting and more Conger on a glorious day in the Sun. Another busy weekend on the Boat that goes farther to find the fish.....thanks to All my Dedicated Anglers.....old and brand new.....ta Malc.
