Our first trip to Alderney went smoothly, although the forecast wasn't great for 2 of the days this was one occasion that we were happy the weather man was wrong as the wind got up to nothing more than a breeze. The fishing followed suit with two enjoyable days on the banks targeting the flatfish, we were glad we took some frozen mackerel as the bait fishing could only be described as slow. A big thank you to Mark Harding from Alderney Angling for all the hard work he puts in behind the scenes to make these trips such a nice experience for the anglers. The turbot fishing our side of the channel has also been ticking over nicely with Chris Stride boating our biggest of the year so far at 12lb. Fishing in Poole bay for the bream has continued to produce great days out. One or two fish around the 3lb 8oz mark are now starting to show along with plenty of smaller fish to keep the rod tips bouncing which are returned for another day. Finally it's off to the wrecks as we have seen the first of the cod and ling landed as the pollock thin out slightly. A bigger stamp than last year seems to be dotted around with our average size being around 10lb, enough to give a cracking fight on that light gear. Special mention goes to 10 year old Finley Palmer who showed the older lads how it's done with a 13lb cod on his 12-20 suveran along with a few pollock.

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

Poole Bream Comp was won by D Lynes and top charter boat went to Mistress Linda, the Bream fishing was fantastic with lots of good size fish being landed the best of the day onboard going to Brian Moss with a fish of 2lb 11ozs, he thought he had a bigger fish but was surprized to see 3 bream on his rig weighing a total of 5lb 11ozs, Steve Collins landed a new PB bream of 2lb 10ozs and an Undulate of 15lb which was difficult on light gear in the tide. Apart from a short spell in the height of the tide fishing continued all day with Brian Moss setting the pace for the rest to follow. The week ahead looks settled and with the bream fishing being so good take the opportunity and join us for a day on the Bream.
    all the best

  • 20/05/2016 Fishing Report by Philip Higgins on Mistress Linda / San Gina3 (Poole, Dorset)

20 May 2016 by Philip Higgins

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

Yesterday we spent the day doing a species hunt although the conditions were far from ideal, Steve Batchelor and Colin Searles and Chris Colledge bagged 17 species including some quality Common and Starry Smoothhounds. The bream fishing was very good at anchor although on the small to medium size they just kept coming. With the Poole Species Comp looming it is a great time to get some practice in trying out new rigs and bait combo's.
To arrange a day afloat give me a call.

    Report on-board Flamer IV

A Brill time was had by all on the latest Flatty Trip on Flamer IV. The successful rigs were two hook flowing traces with size 4/0 Sakuma Stinger hooks baited with Mackerel strip or Launce Fillet. A special mention for Graham Broach from Plymouth on his first trip aboard Flamer IV and a Turbot and Brill virgin, he caught one of each weighing 15Ib 13oz and 3Ib 5oz respectfully and was well pleased to say the least.

Pictured are David Gibson 13Ib 4oz Turbot and Graham Broach 15Ib 13oz Turbot both fish were caught on the same drift.

FLATTY TRIPS - the next flatty trips with places available are on June 3rd, 16th, 22nd, 23rd, July 16th.

Dave Metcalf and his friends from Sussex enjoyed a two day Angling Break on Flamer IV and had two days fishing Banks catching Blonde Rays,Spurdogs, Tope and Brill, all the fish were returned. Pictured is John Arnold who caught the biggest Blonde Ray on Day 2/ a Ray weighing 20Ib 15oz. The successful bait was squid and mackerel cocktail presented on a pennel rig of Sakuma Manta hooks.
    Weymouth Angling Breaks -
A few days away fishing out of Weymouth along with the social side is a nice trip to do.The variety of fishing and the amount of different species caught at Weymouth is probably second to none. There are plenty of places to stay which are angler friendly and some excellent places to wine and dine around the harbour and in Weymouth Town centre.
If you want to try a Weymouth Angling Break then contact me, I cater for whole boat charters and individuals.
Planning your trip well in advance is essential you need to arrange your boat booking and your accommodation as early as possible to avoid disappointment, some of my regular groups plan their trips at least 12 months in advance, this allows them to discuss with me the best tides for the type of fishing they are targeting.

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

The weaker tides along allowed boats to venture out to the deeper marks but we choose to go hunting the bigger bream off the Purbecks which in hindsight was not a good move as we were catching Bream in good numbers before we decided to go for the big fish, we anchored a usually prolific mark off of Dancing Ledge only to catch small Bream, dogfish etc the only good fish we had was a 13lb 4ozs Starry Smoothhound for Mike Lee a new PB. The next couple of trips produced many Bream for the anglers who missed many more as the fish were not in a feeding mood. to the credit of the anglers 95% of the catch was returned. I have plenty of individual trips coming up for Bream and Cod trips so please call for more info

  • 15/05/2016 Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

15 May 2016 by Malcolm Collins

    Report on-board Just Mary

Hi All, to keep this short and sweet this weekend on a 3 hour Stag Party trip from Swanage we had seven Novices on Saturday. Everyone landed a selection of fish including two Double figure Undulate Rays, both female as the bigger fish always are, two Spotted Rays, Numerous Doggies, some good Smoothound, a 3lb Bass that was returned and Bream. Everyone caught so everyone happy ! On Sunday despite the forecast being 'a bit off' with more Sea and wind than expected we stuck with Plan A and went three miles South of the Jurassic Coast. A group of ten Singles/Individuals landed Double figure Undulates and Smoothounds plus Tope. Also Doggies, Bream, Gurnard and a small Conger. No fresh Mackerel so all on frozen or Calamari or Ragworm as bait. My latest Star is Gabrielius who is only 8 years old who pulled up a 14lb male Undulate from 120 feet with much encouragement from all onboard. He was fishing with his Dad Arturas and a party of Lithuanian friends from London, East 17 and was brilliant all day in his efforts to land fish. Only get limited opportunities to fish these good Neap tides and we took it with both hands. Everyone did well in the conditions and we managed some 'Personal best' fish with the London party on Hire Rods. Thanks to All onboard and see You All again soon, All the Best, Malc, 'Just Mary', Poole, Dorset.
