    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

Last Sunday with unsettled conditions we changed our scheduled offshore trip to a local Plaice trip, the morning was a struggle with only a couple of small Plaice and a few small whiting being landed the most exciting part of the morning was watching a baby dolphin play, this was driving me suicidal so after numerous cups of tea a decision to either go catch a few dogfish or retire to the comforts of the pub, (I know what my choice was) so after a vote we choose plan A, anchoring 3 miles off and almost immediately anglers joked they had bites what was happening was the favourite and and small to medium whiting came aboard in good numbers followed by Plaice, Smoothhounds, Dabs, Rays and off course our target the Dogfish in all 8 different species and over 100 fish of varying sizes. This completely transformed the day from being a disaster to an enjoyable afternoon. If the conditions had been more favourable I am sure we would have landed even more fish. Glad they did not go with my choice !!!!!

    RECORD BREAKER
50 year old Kevin Reay landed a 24Ib 8oz Spurdog and with the current British Record apparently standing at 24Ib 5oz this was a superb specimen. Kevin did not want to kill such a superb fish so it was Weighed photographed and returned alive. This big Spur also beat the Flamer IV record which stood at 20Ib.
Kevin was using 20Ib class tackle with a pennel rig of Sakuma Manta hooks baited with Squid and Mackerel cocktail. ANOTHER RECORD BROKE - Kevin also broke The Sea Angler Magazine Mission Accomplished Spurdog record and also won their Fish of the Month Prize.

NEW Flamer IV Tackle Box Stickers and Business Cards are Now available on board Flamer IV.

  • 16/03/2016 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

Although it might still be pretty cold out at sea most days it's certainly starting to seem like the start of spring. It's always nice to see the dolphins around in the channel when the sprats start to move in on the wrecks. On our first wreck trip a couple of weeks ago a large pod of dolphins turned up at the mark we were fishing and we had to move as the pollock went right off the feed due to the dolphins chasing the sprats about. This was just a small speed bump on our first wreck trip of the year and we managed plenty of fat spring pollock well up into the double figures. Elsewhere we are still getting the best fishing I've seen in a long time on the banks for rays and spurdogs. This should continue into April before the temperature starts to rise slightly and the spurs disappear for another year. Our biggest to date this season is 25lb 4oz but unfortunately it was not overly keen on having its photo taken so we weighed and released her quickly. This Monday will see our first trip down to target the turbot and brill of this year and wednesday will be our first crack at the plaice with the light gear.

    Report on-board Wild Frontier 2

    FANTASTIC POLLOCK FISHING CONTINUES..
We are grateful to share the report of our angler, Allan Yates, who came fishing on Saturday and enjoyed THE best that Weymouth port has to offer - great sunrises, flat calm seas and Monster fish on the wrecks..enjoy reading this report...

'..Fishing is always a good day and today was an exceptionally good day out of Weymouth on board Wild Frontier II with skipper Clem Carter and a crew of dedicated anglers all but one I’ve fished with before so if we find the fish these chaps will do the business. Lousy drive down in the early hours due to heavy fog and steaming out to the first wreck the channel was a tad misty but calm and no winds. By the time we arrived on the first mark the sun was making an appearance and with the first drift fish were on so it was all starting to look rather like a good day. Some real clonkers were arriving on board and many double figure fish were taken using a variety of lures in various colours with the favourites, blue white, pearl white and rhubarbs leading the pack. We stayed on one wreck all day with fish on every drift and even as the tide slackened they still where on the take with various full house drifts. Plenty of fish for the freezers, plenty of practice for me ready for Norway next week and even caught some sun. If you could pre order your days fishing and weather to suit this would be what you would be asking for it doesn’t get any better than this. These images are a full house every angler on the boat with a fish and even The Poser !! Clem Carter got in on the act with a real fat girl and why not he found the fish for us on every drift thanks to GPS and a skipper who knows how to use it. I was even treated to a glorious sunset over the marina eating my fish and chips BLISS… Weymouth Rocks AGAIN !! I’ll add a PS to this skipper Clem Carter filleted and prepped all the catch on the way in as the auto pilot well Deano sat in the hot seat !'

THANK YOU, Allan - it is appreciated. There are more photos of the day in our gallery and on Allan's website.

  • 09/03/2016 Fishing Report by clem carter on Wild Frontier 2 (Weymouth, Dorset)

9 Mar 2016 by clem carter

    Report on-board Wild Frontier 2

The 2016 season is at long last is starting. We are watching forecasts really closely to grab the gaps and get out to the wrecks mid-Channel. The Pollock have been abundant with some cracking big fish being consistently caught.

In terms of Lures - the usual Sidewinders, Red Gills and Shads seem to most effective with Rhubarb and Custards, Blue and Whites and Bubble Gum Pinks appearing most successful.

We are still having to travel quite some distance to the wrecks so those booked on, wrap up in long johns, hats, scarves, good quality flotation suits and keep warm!

...and for those still wanting to grab the Last Minute slots this Thursday 10th and Friday 11th, give Clem a buzz, reply via e-mail through CBUK or Facebook - we have a couple spaces left - grab them and join the great Pollock Season!
