As we are approaching spring the sun is starting to get some warmth in it's rays, the fishing through Feb was good on the days you could get to sea with lots of congers, small whiting, Rays and some good size Spurdogs. During the months of March, April and May is usually the best time of the year for Big Turbot with your best chance of catching a double figure fish or Bigger like the ones pictured.There is also a chance of catching an early Brill. Don't Miss Out, Book your Place(s), Trip(s).

JANUARY/ FEBRUARY
Well what a horrible Winter we have been having with all of these constant strong winds, which are forcing the Weymouth charter fleet to stay in the harbour most of the time. However when the weather has been nice enough for us to get out, the fishing hasn't been disappointing us. The wrecks are fishing pretty steady with quite a lot of double figure Pollock coming out. The biggest on Meerkat so far 17lb 8oz (pictured here) and the biggest in the fleet 19lb 8oz but there is still plenty of time for someone to get that magical 20lb.
INSHORE
The inshore anchor marks are fishing just as well with up to 12 species coming up in the same spot. The last few weeks have shown some amazing specimen fish caught from one of our local marks. Some are listed below
Conger Eels to 60lb
Spur Dogs to 15lb
Undulated Rays to 17lb
Thornback Rays to 14lb
Blonde Rays to 34lb
Also among all these bigger fish we have been catching quite a few nice tabled size Whiting.
I have also heard/ seen that the first signs of Turbot are starting to show on the famous Shambles Bank, so hopefully it won't be too long before we start seeing a few more.

Flaming Rays R' US, The Ray fishing has been excellent on recent trips. pictured is Denise Youngs with a 15Ib Undulate Ray which was landed on Flamer IV during a session fishing at anchor on a bank. The Ray was returned alive.

The Reef/Bank fishing trips have been producing some excellent Ray and Spurdog fishing with Squid and Mackerel cocktail baits proving to be to the fishes liking.The baits are presented on pennel rigs of Sakuma Manta 6/0 hooks.
With Bryan Osbourne doing well on the Spurdogs landing spurs weighing 18Ib and 19Ib Bryan is pictured with the 19 pounder. All the fish were returned alive.

With the weather looking favourable for a couple of days in a row for a change, a wrecking trip was organised with only short notice. High expectations of light winds and fair weather and some new season fat top Pollock and maybe a ling or two.
As is usual this time of year constantly checking the forecast every couple of hours using the good old met office, wind guru, xc weather and a combination of the bbc, the evening beforehand the weather prediction was doable and decreasing later, but not for fair weather fishermen or picnicking.
As we approached the first wreck with intentions of this been the the first of many fishing destinations planned for the day, the fish started to feed and good fish landed. With some amazing anglers onboard catching great sized fish it was disheartening having to make the decision to call the trip short and head for home as the weather quickly deteriorated.
