    RECORD BREAKER
The star of the trip was 50 year old Kevin Reay who landed a 24Ib 8oz Spurdog and with the current British Record apparently standing at 24Ib 5oz this was a superb specimen. Kevin did not want to kill such a superb fish so it was Weighed photographed and returned alive. This big Spur also beat the Flamer IV record which stood at 20Ib.
Kevin was using 20Ib class tackle with a pennel rig of Sakuma Manta hooks baited with Squid and Mackerel cocktail. Kevin is pictured with his record breaking Spurdog.

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

    February '16 monthly report:

Although we have mostly been kept in port with the weather over the last few weeks I've managed a couple of trips out to see what is biting. The banks are fishing well offshore with our first 20lb spur of the year hitting the deck (catch and release style) and a steady stream of congers rays and huss too. As well as the usual blonde rays we have been getting a lot of undulates and thornbacks , a welcome addition to what is sometimes a quiet time of year. We have pretty much seen the last of the cod now inshore for this winter season, a decent number landed but perhaps not to the usual size we are used to at this time of year. Looking forward to getting back out on the wrecks in search of the first of the years pollack in the coming weeks, providing we get some better weather.

    Report on-board Wild Frontier 2

One of our valued anglers, Allan Yates from Seabooms.com has provided the best report of the most recent day out aboard and we have copied snipits for you to enjoy here: You can read the full report on Allan's website:
' Great start to the day weather wise glorious sunrise, low winds and temperatures around 6c. Weather forecast was against us with wind and rains due around mid day and as we steamed out to the wreck sea state was already lumpy but with wind direction and tides fishing was do-able. Arriving at the first wreck around 1000hrs with most of us including me were into fish and some klonkers coming aboard with the skipper Clem Carter and his crewman Rik Gold they were well busy charging round the boat landing fish. That scenario continued throughout the morning with many double figure fish and one at 19.5lbs we weighed it were taken. Around mid day winds were strengthening and the sea was heaping up but we were still lnding quality fish. My brief for the day was to sea trial two new lures my Turbo Fish and the Whackytails medium and large size and they took good fish so well happy with their perfomances and I also had good sport with my ultra light spinning rod and baitcaster reel loaded with 20lb braid that really was exciting fishing. Around 1300hrs the skipper and crew agreed to call time for two reasons main one we all had enough fish to take home so why rape the wreck stocks and most important winds were getting heavy and rain and sleet had set in so it was getting uncomfortable and we were mid channel 35miles out. Heading back to port the skipper and crewman filleted all the fish for us and we bagged them up ready for the freezers. So marks out of 10 for a good fish producing trip has to be 15 ! apart from weather you couldn't have asked for a better trip. '
THANK YOU ALLAN! ...and see you soon.

  • 11/02/2016 Fishing Report by DAN clarke on FINS UP (Weymouth, Dorset)

11 Feb 2016 by DAN clarke

    Report on-board FINS UP

An early start for our first wrecking trip of the year. With the wind away and spring tides about to peak conditions couldn't have been more ideal. We had some regulars, along with a couple of nice guys that were fairly new to wreck fishing, But good anglers none the less.
As we pushed on passed Portland bill the water clarity remained very coloured for miles, not ideal. However we pushed on. The first, second and third wreck only one fish. The decision was made to head back where we started out as there was a lot more fish activity around the wreck. I handed out some of our new crusader shads that were kindly donated by our sponsors sidewinder. As the tide eased the fish started to come with both the new crusader shad lures and the classic sidewinder Sand eels, bang on the money.
All together not a huge hall but we did manage a good couple of double figure fish.
    Happy days aboard fins-up.
Let's hope the weather settles and water clarity clears up soon.
