SEPTEMBER 2015
My most recent Wrecking Trip was just SUPERB with lots of Cod and Pollack caught along with two Bass.Some anglers were catching a fish almost every drift.Without a doubt Pink Red Gill lures proved to be the best. I have never seen Cod fishing on the wrecks this good in September before. Pictured is Kevin Renton with a 10Ib 8oz Cod.

Another good weekend on the cod here is the biggest one from Saturday a 24lb,er caught by Paul Lavis on a mackerel fillet and less than 8 miles from the harbour. Sunday we headed off shore to the wrecks and it was cod heaven out there as well, although they were much smaller in the 5-6lb range and the weather was better than what as been all summer

A Recent Wreck fishing trip was just SUPERB and produced plenty of Cod and Pollack and two Bass. Pictured is Richard Phillips with a 10Ib Cod he caught on a Pink Red Gill Lure,Richard caught lots of Cod during the trip and some Pollack.

It's been a fairly quiet month for us down in Poole with a whole week of hard easterly winds followed by the same again of south westerly. Some of the most enjoyable fishing lately has been along the sea front from Poole to Hengistbury head using the light tackle. We have had a few days turn up over 20 different species. Something I haven't seen much of as a skipper is trigger fish and they been making an appearance taking the plaice baits on the sand. Almost tropical to look at they also fight like a bream on steroids. Out further off there is still plenty of tope and rays at anchor with all 5 species of rays making regular appearances. We are still picking off the bass with live baits such as scad and mackerel although I think they will start to thin out soon and we shall have to move onto pout. Only two more trips over to Alderney to go and it will be the winter season, although if you look outside today you would think it had arrived already.

The Wreck fishing continues to be good for Cod,Pollack and Bass. Pictured is Shane Sturmey with a 14Ib 4oz Pollack he caught on a Red Gill Lure,Keith also caught some more Pollack up to 13Ib and Cod during the same trip.

This month has started well with a good run of quality Trigger fish being caught, the inshore drift fishing has seen good catches of Gurnard (Tub, Red, a Grey and the odd Streaked) and Plaice. On the outer marks during the weaker tides there has been plenty of action with Rays, Congers, Tope and Bull Huss all fighting to grab the bait whilst off to sea on the wrecks and banks big Black and Red Bream are being landed with fish in the region of 5lb + showing. Hi All, just a quick report which you will find in more detail on our Facebook page of 'Onamission Charters' in more detail. Autumn is here now and the kids are back to School and whilst it means new challenges for them it opens up new opportunities for Anglers aboard 'Just Mary' from Poole. This time of year when the weather allows we push off to the 'Autumn Grounds' in search of Big Black Bream, Blonde Rays, Bass, Big Conger Eels and Tope. Yesterday, Sunday, we found all of them on one mark. Glorious Day with Good Company and some Cracking Fish were landed and probably just as many lost. Deep Sea fishing tests Anglers and their gear to the limit, this is Big Boys Fishing ! Pics are from the day when 'Plan A' came together and the weather behaved itself, we can only hope and pray to the Big Man to give us more days like yesterday.....and more Fish ! Thanks, Malc.....and may your God go with You.....!

August was a very windy month in Lyme Bay but the fishing was nothing short of fantastic, more cod than we have seen for years and the same for the plaice. September has started on the same note but the wind being much lighter so far, may it continue that way. The Pollock are starting to show a little more now, the bass are hit and miss although I have not targeted them much due to the amount of cod fishing, why spend time steaming all around the bay looking for bass when you have got such a good cod fishery on your doorstep. The bream are much bigger this year although they were much later getting here. Still plenty of fat plaice about we must of had about 10 or more yesterday in about half an hour on the way back from the cod grounds. All I can say now is fingers crossed for a good Autumn/winter season

The first time since the new rules were set in place earlier this year we have finally hit the 3 bass per angler limit, I was pleased to see all the guys keen to return any extra that hit the deck. Due to the amount of small scad we have been getting for bait bass catches have finally risen to a sensible level after a tricky start to the season. Also in strong numbers this month have been the tope. 2 hours sessions have been more than enough with upwards of 40 fish not uncommon. On a recent trip to Alderney Silver Spray’s new top angler Finley Palmer tackled a tope of 25lb caught on a live mackerel, a brilliant method to get the best fight possible as the tope really nail the livebait and take off on a 20 yard run to kick things off. And last but not least the wrecks are still keeping us entertained with plenty of cod and pollock on the lures and ling on the dead baits. Last week saw the arrival of the autumn bream mid channel, bringing some good fun over slack for those who don’t want to fish for the big stuff. Harvey Collier did just this but unfortunately it backfired when a 24lb cod took a fancy to his tiny bream rig in 260 feet of water. A bit of a surprise but a welcome one!
