    Report on-board Lady Margaret

With a combination of COVID 19 lockdown and unsettled weather we have not been doing as much fishing as hoped this month which is a shame as the fishing has been great! We have been going to sea with two on board to take advantage of the good fishing.

We haven't seen any cod on the trips but there have been plenty of nice whiting about to nearly 3lb. In addition there have been some nice sized blonde rays and lots of Conger eels. There have also been some nice bass around with several 6lb+ fish being released along with a few smaller ones.

Closer in there have been beautifully conditioned plaice to over 2lb, flounder, sole, red mullet, smoothhound and more bass. You literally do not know what fish you are going to catch next.

Wishing everyone a happy festive period after such a troubled year...

    Report on-board Lady Margaret

The fishing continues to be good. We have spent the month concentrating our efforts on plaice and bass.

The plaice fishing has been steady and there have been plenty of nice sized fish landed along with gurnards and black bream. There have also been some big shoals of mackerel around on occasion.

The bass fishing has been very good. Lots of smaller fish around as there has been all year but also some bigger fish in the 8lb and 9lb class. Some particularly frenetic sessions have seen all rods playing bass at the same time.

Next month will see us turning our attention to winter species. This month has seen the weather turn more unsettled so hopefully we will get some settled spells over the winter.

    Report on-board Galloper

It was nice to get out the other day with a single person booking. Dave hired the boat for the day which was nice after a few weeks ashore. It was good timing for me too as it meant I could get a feel for how its fishing before the lockdown is eased. The weather was spot on so we started a fair way down and had thornbacks from the first cast! Between the rays whiting were thick and fast with a bite every cast. We moved around a bit as the day went on and found some areas showing more dogfish with the whiting and a couple of pouting too. Unfortunately we didn’t find any codling but I have heard of a few from the shore and private boats over the last few weeks. We were lucky enough to see several before this lockdown. Although I doubt there will be loads of cod about things were certainly looking better than the last couple of years and I am sure we will see some more over the next few weeks.
I have had a couple of spaces come up this weekend, 1 space on Saturday and 1 space on Sunday. Both at £80pp max 5 anglers. Please call me for more information.
I have more spaces around Christmas and into the next year although bookings are trickling in so don’t leave it too long.

  • 26/11/2020 Fishing Report by Iain Barron on Brighton Lure Boat (Brighton, East Sussex)

26 Nov 2020 by Iain Barron

    Report on-board Brighton Lure Boat

Brighton Lure Boat Inshore Bass Fest 27 November 2020

Brighton Lure Boat had not been out for a while due to the winds, and unfortunate accident getting off the boat!

We looked forward to welcoming James out with us as first-timer and keen Kayak fisherman or is it now not correct to say that!!! We were met with breezy conditions, clarity was ok the further out we went, and James request was not to blank (Bass) as he had on the floaty thing he uses, as he is a very keen angler and was willing to listen and learn which I hope he has I was hopeful of a good session. The first 40 minutes we moved around the western part of Brighton reefs, we picked up only 4 small ones, it was time move.

The decision to move rapidly to another area proved to be right and wow, omg, what happened in the next 2 1/2 half hours was stunning we already had 4 Bass but not really any size, so we advanced slowly over the area in anticipation of some action and bendy rods!

Brighton Lure Boat Let The Fest Begin
Our first drift across in the NE winds was slow due to the tide but this didn’t stop our silver hungry fish, we had around 6 on the first drift. What happened on the second drift I have never experienced, James was first into a fish around 2.5lb, and then the brother and sisters got involved, we had 14 in 9-minute drift, it was a case who get there’s unhooked the fastest and get back down before the drift ended!

The words fish on went out the window, the next drift produced our first ever squid, perhaps some reinvestment needed and buy some squid jigs although this was caught on a metal lure, Brighton Lure Boat first, another tick off the list. James on the same drift hit into larger fish which sadly wouldn’t stay hooked, he dropped back down and had yet another 2lbr plus.

    Brighton Lure Boat-Lure Change
    Brighton Lure Boat 1
50 up for Brighton Lure Boat
I suggested to James he tries the meatal lures, he duly did and again first in with a fish, the N easterly had got up again and was pushing us out quicker, so we changed to slightly heavier metals and they seemed to bring the fish on again.

Our 12th drift across we was up to big 50 and the 51st fish landed was lovely Tub Gurnard caught on a metal, whilst the silver continued to feed we hoped of larger fish but it wasn’t to be, although we had numerous takes on every drift the smaller ones seem to dictate the area.

Brighton Lure Boat–The Wind of Change
We were beginning to think the elusive ton was a possibility, but the wind of change happened more the tide ebbed, from N Easterly to more due North, this didn’t stop the fish, averaging around 4/5 a drift, the last 3 drifts we undertook we had to readjust the approach as the wind was catching the more stern on then side on , and then the last drift produced minimal contact and 2 fish only.

t was time to turn the Brighton Lure Boat back towards the marina and get warmed up and looking back on the morning’s session it was great fun, always hoping the larger would come to the fore, but alas not on this occasion, the total 73.

New record to be aimed at the next time Brighton Lure Boat hits the high seas.

10 Nov 2020 by Philip Higgins

    Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3

The latest set of COVID measures have changed my operation to only taking 1 angler , it seems strange to have so much room but if it sorts the problem then it is worth it. The weather has not been brilliant but we have managed a few days fishing for Whiting, Rays and Bass and have been successful but as usual with fishing something comes up you were not expecting and this year it is the late run of Mackeral being caught this week string fulls all the time more than I have seen all season a real bonus. Once the wind drops out the Whiting fishing will be coming into its best so if you fancy the boat to yourself please give me a call, full social distancing measures are in place and a scanning card is onboard for track n trace.
