  • 01/2020 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Jan 2020 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

The year has got off to a great start for us here on the blackwater estuary. There may have been lots of sprats around but the thorn-back rays have still been feeding well. The mild weather has undoubtably helped this and they have shown in both size and numbers. The best of the fishing has been well within the shelter of the estuary so we have been able to fish in all but the worst weather. Our best trip in January was 42 rays to 14.8lbs. we saw double figure fish mixed in most trips and plenty of happy anglers. As long as we don’t see any prolonged cold spells the rays should be here for the spring now. Although at times it was mostly rays we caught we did see a few other bits and bobs with the usual whiting dogfish and dabs showing. When conditions allowed we headed further afield and even had a couple of tiny codling, hopefully we will see some of their larger relatives as the sprats move off in the coming weeks. I have several spaces coming up at weekends as well as midweek availability and evening as we get into the summer. For more information, regular reports and availability please visit

  • 08/02/2020 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

8 Feb 2020 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

With the weather forecast giving 30 kts SE and getting much worse every day we had no choice but to cut our last set of tides short and get the boat out the water for the yearly spruce up.

We only had two days to get it done before the rain arrived and gale force winds.

The boys got stuck in, scratch coated the old anti foul, new coat of anti foul,
polished the prop, polish all the gel coat,
applied two coats of wax and change all the anodes.

Massive thanks to everyone who helped,
the 19 year old Guimond 45 (Size Matters) looks as good as new, I am sure this boat gets bigger every time it comes out the water!

The fishing on the Mersey is pretty steady and is showing no sign of slowing down, at this rate the cod will be here till spring in good numbers.

Most days catching 20 to 30+ cod per trip to 8lb 10oz but most are 2lb to 4lb,
Rays are starting to show more and more each set of tides to 10lb along with Whiting, Flounder and Dabs.

We start out last set of tides on the Mersey for this winter season on February 14th, this is the only day we have 7 places available 4.30am sailing back in at 1.30pm, £45 pp includes all fishing tackle and hot drinks.

Hopefully we will get chance to go to the offshore marks before we finish in Liverpool,
it will be very interesting to see if the fishing is still as good as it was a few weeks ago.

    Thanks

  • 01/02/2020 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

1 Feb 2020 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

The fishings good today aboard Duke lV with some nice Skate up to 10lb, Dabs and 3 nice Smoothounds around 5-6lb. Quite a surprise to get among the Hounds at this time of year, maybe the temperature of the water at around 9'c is keeping some of the summer species back from migrating south. Still plenty of Bass off Ramsgate although none so far today. Duke lV is out of the water for maintenance for 2 weeks but ready to go from mid February so give me a call and come along and make the most of the super fishing. Pic shows 2 of today's Hounds that ame along at the same time.
