    Report on-board Silver Spray II

It’s always nice to get the New Year rolling with a really decent rod bending day out, the first trip of 2020 did not disappoint. We headed to the offshore banks south of Poole about 20 miles and fished comfortably all day with up to 24oz of lead. There was about 15 knots of wind so we would have had a good excuse if the fish hadn’t been playing ball. Luckily that wasn’t the case at all and other than re anchoring at slack water we pretty much had fish on for the entire day. We had a good mix of blonde rays, spurdogs, bull huss, whiting, congers and even tope and smoothound. Top fish of the day went to Darryl Morrell for his 29lb 8oz blonde ray which was one of 5 rays he had. This bodes well for the next couple of months as the height of the season is usually mid March. Elsewhere we were pleased to get out every day between Boxing day and New Years Eve, with the tides being a bit on the big side we stuck to the fishing inshore. We had plenty of whiting in Poole Bay along with small eyed and undulate rays. Pushing slightly further out for the slack produced some better fish and even one small cod but we couldn’t get away from the congers which smashed a lot of the baits that went down. We are looking forward to our first wreck trip of the season in early February and hopefully some better weather at some point.

  • 11/01/2020 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

11 Jan 2020 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

Our first set of tides on the Mersey in 2020 has felt more like fishing in spring than the middle of winter.

It’s been so mild and we still haven’t had a frost yet, it seems like there is no such thing as winter anymore.

On the very small neap tides we where catching lots of Rays to 11lb 8lb, this is not normal for January.

On the bigger neap tides up to small spring tides the Rays have disappeared and the Cod have come on the feed to 9lb (most cod are small just 2lb to 3lb).

There is still plenty of Whiting being caught to 1lb 8oz, Dabs and a few Flounder.

When we have fished wind against tide the fishing has been a struggle especially on the very small neap tides.

When it’s wind with the tide or across the tide the fishing is much better.

    Thanks

  • 08/01/2020 Fishing Report by Jon Whitton on Alexia (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

    Report on-board Alexia

The uptide/downtide fishing throughout December and into January has been excellent so far with us seeing on average around 60 codlings per trip coming over the rails. So far the weather has been a lot more settled with after November’s wipeout it’s a relief. We have had cod upto 8lb and plenty around the 5lb and 6lb mark with a mixture of squid, blacks and cart all fishing well. There is still plenty of cod to be had and this month usually starts to throw up a better stamp of fish and it’s when the bigger cod usually start to feed. We have also opened the diary for our spring and summer season with some great fishing to bff we had over the many wrecks and reefs and ground here at Whitby. We also have tea and coffee now on tap and the use of a microwave is available if anybody would like to bring food to warm up. We also have the spring and summer festivals fast approaching and over the next few days I’ll be adding those dates to our cbuk calendar. For more info or to book call Barry

Absolute cod bonanza today for our anglers!

Our biggest just ounces shy of double figures, with a good helping of 6-8lbers too, plenty of 3-4lbers and even more 2-3lbers.

The best angler had around 30 fish himself, returning plenty of in size fish, just keeping the better ones.

Best bait remains unwashed squid and black lug.

Our diary is open now and we continue to fill our weekend places, give me a call on 07977 436903 if you fancy a run off with me.

    Tight lines Rich

  • 01/2020 Fishing Report by Daniel Taylor on Better Days (Ramsgate, Kent)

    Jan 2020 by Daniel Taylor

    Report on-board Better Days

January fishing is fully in swing, with plenty of large whiting,Dabs,Bass and skate kicking about. This January has been quite mild and to our surprise there’s still a good amount of bass coming up. Within the next month hopefully we should see some early smooth-hounds pushing inshore, along with the start of the large bass we get out of ramsgate. From the start of April we will be providing live prawn and fresh peeler crab to really target those large hounds and bass we get at the start of our season. For now the fishing is still very active with plenty of fish being caught each trip, as time goes on, the fishing should only get better and better. At £40 a head or £250 whole for whole boat, why not give us a message or call and book a day with us? Hopefully see you onboard
