Report on-board Galloper
Well after a short quiet period the past couple of weeks, the fishing is starting to get back on form. Today the lads took the option of quality not quantity and so we headed for one of our close range marks for bigger cod. The fishing wasn't fast but we were catching roker from the first cast and the cod soon followed coming steadily throughout the day. We were lucky having some great autumnal weather with a slight frost this morning and glorious sunshine throughout the day. The lads from Crouch Sea Anglers were very pleased with their catch totalling 18 cod averaging around 5-7lbs and the best around 9.8lbs. There were loads of whiting about and one of the lads even accidently had a cod on a whiting. We had 10 roker with the biggest about 6-7lbs, a load of dogfish and a nice bonus bass of about 3lbs. Not a bad day at all and I'm sure the fishing will only improve over the coming weeks and yes we do have some individual spaces as well as a couple of whole days still free. please see our website for weekly reports and any avialable dates.

on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

Report on-board Duke IV
A fine days fishing for Martin and his group from Gravesend in Kent with plenty of Whiting and Large Dabs, Dennis landed this fine Cod that made his day. On return to harbour the birds were chasing the Whiting again, this gave us an opportunity with the lures and we managed around 40 Bass to 6lb. The water remains warm and quite clear, perhaps this is keeping the numbers of Cod that we expect at this time of year low?

They cant be far away as the Large Pout and Whiting are here already! -

Report on-board Flamer IV
FLAMER III of WEYMOUTH - "STUMPY THE STINGRAY" - Nick Payne age 53 from Devon had caught two turbot and some black bream before a session at anchor saw him catch a 57Ib Common Stingray.Nick did well to land the big ray as he was only using 12Ib class tackle intended for black bream. In fact the 12Ib class rod was home made by Nick some 25 years ago.The successful bait was ragworm tipped with squid strip on a size 1 hook. The stinger had no tail,so we nick named it "stumpy".Stumpy was weighed, photographed and returned alive.

The ray is beleived to be a Weymouth port record. Nick is pictured with his prize catch.
The stingray a Flamer first is the 58th different species to be landed on Flamer III in 2009. -

Report on-board Flamer IV
NOTTINGHAM SEA SPECIMEN GROUP - fished a weekend aboard Flamer III in October and they did particularly well on the turbot.Day 1/ after a session catching black bream etc they then had one drift on the famous Shambles Bank at the end of the day and landed three turbot.Day 2/ In windy conditions after two hours of catching nothing they had four turbot in one drift and then four more turbot in as many drifts,Not bad an 11 turbot catch in total. The successful bait was sandeel/launce fillets which were used because mackerel were few and far between and it proved to be a brilliant bait. They also caught other species such as bass, cod, gurnards, garfish etc and Steve Craven caught his first ever John Dory(pictured).Needless to say the Specimen Group have re booked for 2010.

Fishing Report by Colin Baker
on Sally Ann Jo (Weymouth, Dorset)
Sep 2009 by Colin Baker
Report on-board Sally Ann Jo
Well the boat is now at Pier Rd, Littlehampton, so if you've been on the boat from Ford note the new location. September saw a total of 16 species on the boat including bream, bass, cod, conger, whiting, tope, thornbacks and smoothounds. The last weekend was probably the best, with the small tides we went out and anchored a deep hole both days and the weather couldnt have been calmer. Saturday saw the first cod to baits at anchor this year and Ron who was out celebrating his 82nd birthday had the best fish, an eel of 40lb. Sundays best fish went to Charlotte on her first trip, the only other fish she has caught being the mackerel bait on the way out. After that she went on to catch another three eels I think. With the cod turning up to baits I look forward to October and the rest of the winter. October shoud continue to turn up big eels as well as bream and bass amongst the cod and other species.
