A Tripple personal best
Posted by mick on September 28, 2009
Edit This
This weekend has seen some excellent fishing but on Sunday a group of anglers from Newcastle between them managed to break three records
after wreck fishing all morning and bagging plenty of nice ling and a few cod I decided to head for the ground and in no time the fish were having it, a cracking ling of 15.2oz came up for young Jack and a personal best for him well done mate, the other anglers heads were down and not wanting to be out done by such a young lad (as they had a sweep going for first and second heaviest fish of the day) the very next drift Wayne fishing at the back of the boat and with a fishing rod about 1 meter long
( no joking the rod had been broken on several previous ocasions,)
hit into a whopper the stumpy little rod with no end eye was nearly bent double the fish gave a good account of it’s self with Wayne puffing like steam boat and eventually up came another two personal bests one for Wayne and another for the new sea urchin 2 a ling of nearly 24lbs
well done lads and I look forward to seeing you all again soonUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

we had some great weather for once and the lads had their pick of places to fish. we had some nice big tides and so went for a mixed bag of thornbacks and cod. its always nice to see some of the early fish and they are a nice size to, we only had a dousen today but they were all between 3lbs and 6lbs. we also had a dousen thornbacks to about 8lbs and loads of whiting and dogs. this is a grat sign for the coming weeks and months as the cod fishing will only get better.

Report on-board Flamer IV
SPECIES FISHING - On Flamer III through out each year I keep a tally of how many different species are caught. The best total was acheived in 2007 with 61 different species.Just last week four more were added to this years total making 55 different species caught on Flamer III in 2009.The four were Gilthead Bream,Ballions Wrasse,Red Mullet and Trigger Fish.I had not seen a Trigger Fish all Summer/Autumn then five come along in two days and all from the same mark to the east of Weymouth were I had never caught them before.Small pieces of ragworm being the successful bait. Pictured is Aidy Cox with his Trigger Fish.

Well with the strong winds that we have had it has not been easy to get to the marks that we would fish at this time of the year but it has made us work harder to find the fish for our customers, We are still getting some good Smothounds and Skate but the Codling are starting to show with more each trip and with Bass, dogs ,whiting and some good Dabs we have been getting some good mixed bags If you haven,t booked for the winter Cod season yet Start thinking now! After last years fantastic season this year looks like it will be as good with bigger fish, I have had reports that the fish are much bigger so don,t be dissapointed!!!

A big thank you to the lads at Breaksea Boats who delivered Predator to me on Saturday. Their journey from Brixham was not for the faint hearted as they had to contend with strong easterly winds.

well it seems like the autumn fish are here now, apart from the wind making the conditions a little uncomfortable we found some at the weekend. we started the day in the deeper water trying to aviod the swell but when the tide changed we were able to get where we wanted and were soon into much better fishing. we finished the day with 32 thornbacks aswell as a load of bits and bobs. a few codling have started to show inshore now although we didnt have any some of the other boats that stayed closer in saw some to 5-6lbs and i reckon we will see a few more of these on this next set of big tides this weekend.

Report on-board Flamer IV
THE CREAM OF DEVONSHIRE WITH A BIT OF CORNISH - Mark Collins and friends from Dartmouth and Gordon from Cornwall travelled to Weymouth for a day aboard Flamer III to sample the black bream and flatty fishing and they were not dissapointed.Breezy conditions did not make things easy for them.First we stopped and caught plenty of mackerel for bait. Then several drifts on the mussel beds on the edge of the Portland race produced some reasonable black bream on squid strips and scollop frill baits. Then a move for a session on the famous Shambles Bank saw four Brill, two turbot and plaice come aboard along with some gurnards and more mackerel. The suceessful bait being mackerel strip. The lads were well happy and vowed to come back for another trip.Pictured is Mark Collins with his first ever Brill which weighed 5Ib 8oz.
