    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Yesterday we had our most regular sharking angler on board the boat. Rupert Drury from Terrington nr Malton North Yorkshire.
After doing 6 sharking trips already this year and seeing none, we were actually feeling quite confident yesterday morning as the weather conditions for the job were perfect.
We fished the grounds for 8 hours and only managed 1 run which happened around slack water. We weren't sure whether it was a Porbeagle run as the bait didn't show any signs of teeth marks. Usually the baits come back mutilated! Instead the bait was just to say scratched at the tail. We think maybe a tope had ran with it and spat it. Anyway another no show :-((((((( !!
Rupert decided to have a play around on the bottom for an hour with a speed jig whilst we waited and was rewarded with some cracking cod fishing. 32 cod to 13lb when we counted them. Not bad for a daft hour !!
The sharks will eventually turn up here at Whitby, but at the moment it seems they are still on their holidays!!

The last two days fishing have been brilliant again onboard Mistress, EACH day we have seen well over 100 cod caught. We have been working mainly hard ground less than an hour from port, all caught on light gear and shads! The only thing holding us back at the minute is the weather. There are still plenty of mid week spaces available get in on the summer Cod action here at Whitby!

  • 10/06/2012 Fishing Report by Aaron Smith on Bad Boyz VI (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

10 Jun 2012 by Aaron Smith

    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

    Sunday 10th June,

A day with Bold Sea Angling Club

Well the weather died off and alowing us to visit a few wrecks around the 20-30mile mark off Holyhead, we set sail at 7:30 with the kettle on ready for a brew once we were underway.
First stop off for the day on a wreck around 12 miles just to breck up the traveling time which after 4 drifts produced around 8 Pollack to 6lb.
A further hour steam out we arrived at our venue for the day and working closely with a vessel from Caernarfon to find the fish around the different wrecks of St.Goerges Channel.
Calling lines down on the first drift and almost instantely people calling for the net with fish around the 4-7lb mark which was another perfect start on a wrecking trip.
This kept up until the tide slackend and as always on slack water the smaller fish around the 2-3lb came out to play one after another with the odd coalie and we had this until the tide turned and the flow increased which saw the smaller fish disipate and the larger Pollack from 3-7lb start to feed with the odd codling, once the tide got too strong we headed to a wreck a bit closer in to finish the day which on the first 4 drifts saw a fish to the same person each drift lucky man with the right colour jelly! but it soon came to the last drift of the day which 4 out of 6 hit fish around the 5lb mark to finish.

So a good 2 hour steam home with my crew man watching the wheel whilst i filleted all the fish and the lads tucked in to a nice big pan of hot pot.

The Cod should be making more of an apperence on the wrecks soon and the larger Pollack to follow, Back out there a few times this next week so it should be intresting to see if a few Cod make an apperence.

Mon 11/06- Half Day- 10:15- 8 fishing- Where has the sun gone?? Wind has picked up and changed direction over night but luckily this hadn't effected the sea too much - Drifted the same area that was good yesterday and landed some really nice mackerel and mostly all of good size - not as many as yesterday but still a healthy catch. Now fingers crossed for maybe some sunshine for the weekend?

  • 10/06/2012 Fishing Report by Ray Martin on PLAN B (Southend-On-Sea, Essex)

10 Jun 2012 by Ray Martin

    Report on-board PLAN B

After another week of diabolical weather we had a small break promised by the met office. For once they got the prediction spot on.. We left at 0600 on a flat calm sunny Sunday morning - Heaven.
The angling party were on their annual competition and expectations were running high as the Thames is fishing brilliant at the moment.. I agreed to keep the scores and at around 0730 the fishing started.. From the off they hit smoothounds and bass, the best one came when the tide slackened and we moved to a small wreck, this weighed in at just under 18lb and was a personal best ever fish for Alan Tidd.
I decided to have a go as I had promised a friend a skate for his tea, I almost immediately caught the second double figure hound of the day.
We had a short play over low water trying to catch bass in the wrecks and had one about 3lb and my first mackerel of the year.. a surprise dab and loads of dogs were also caught. The wind got up as the day went on, so we moved into the shallows for the flood and were rewarded with more hounds and a couple of skate.
The winning angler had 5 hounds and a dog fish. Total hounds caught was 26 , 4 Bass to 5lb , 2 skate, 8 dogs, a dab , 30 whiting and a mackerel.. all in all a great day.

  • 06/2012 Fishing Report by Ross Parham on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

    Jun 2012 by Ross Parham

    Report on-board Spot On!

Thanks to the weather man and the MET office for again getting the forecast wrong!
But we braved the weather and headed out wrecking, with conditions far from perfect we still managed a good haul, with plenty of prime pollock up to 11lb and some nice Cod up to 14lb, a lone channel whititng and some pouting made up the days catch.

I would just liked to say thanks to those who were on board and for putting up with the weather and battling the elements. But hey thats what 'summer' fishing is all about.
All in all a good catch for the day.

  • 07/06/2012 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

7 Jun 2012 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Steve Burrows and some of his mates from part of the Warwickshire Constabulary joined us the other day.

With the weather forecast being slightly against us for the afternoon we decided it would be in our favour to stay relatively close to Whitby and work the ground between the 5 and 7 mile with some great results on the cod!!

Best fish on the day was Steve's cod of 13lb which, unfortunately for my camera he filleted before I had chance to get a picture!! Think his mate got one though so I will post it up afterwards.

The Summer fishing is here lads and is superb at the moment !!

If you are fancying a day on the Shy -Torque III we are fully booked every day through June and only have a couple of days left in July.

In July, apart from ( 25th room for 9 ) and ( 31st room for 7 ) every other day is also fully booked so get your trips organised for August and September a.s.a.p so as to avoid disappointment !!

The September competition is filling quickly now. Dates for this comp are 8th - 23rd. There are big cash prizes on offer so get your places booked for a chance to win up to £1000.00 in cash !!

Wherever you're fishing lads lets hope it's as fruitful as Whitby is at the moment ! ! !
