    Report on-board Causeway Boats

Weather is getting bit more settled and the fishing is better than this time last year with some good Pollack on the wrecks to upper doubles and many in the 8 to 10lb class. If you want a personal best Pollack now is the time to go, before they spawn in April.

I've not got to the middle bank as the weather has been wrong when the tides are right but we'll get there soon!

Another surprise is how good the Mackerel fishing is already.

Looking ahead as the weather warms up we have tope fishing to look forward from late May and I'm also doing a lot more INDIVIDUAL ANGLERS DAYS limited to 8 anglers, These trips will be on the very best tides either wrecking offshore or species hunts in the general direction of Donegal - see my website front page for details and dates.

Hope to see you soon, richard

  • 12/04/2012 Fishing Report by Ron Angel on Why Worry (Burnham-On-Crouch, Essex)

    Report on-board Why Worry

An early start yesterday was called for as I wanted to get the best part of the tide up our arse to take us Offshore. Luke and Dan was my guests today and Andy the trusty crew.As long as I have a 'Booking' and the weather is good then 'We go fishing' no messing around on Why Worry for a minimum amount of crew. Armed with brand new Squid and the finest Herrings we were away from the marina for 6.15am.A good run at 23knts for just 3150 revs now the boat is clean again. The fishing was hot from the off. The only problem on the ebb was the amount of Dogfish in the swim. As long as a Dogfish never grabbed the bait within 10 seconds of it being on the bottom, then a Roker did. The only grumble was the Roker were a little on the small side. Perfectly sizeable to keep but I wanted to find the boys some bigger ones. We had a short move after a couple of hours and we did indeed find some bigger ones. As the tide got going the fishing died a little so another short move put us back on them. This time the fish were really coming aboard in numbers and very few Dogfish amongst them. Bearing in mind it was only maybe 200 yards from where we fished the the ebb, the flood tide produced bigger Rokers and the Dogfish had petered out. Luke also added a few good sized Whiting into the mix.
I don’t know how many Roker we had all told. We kept 15 and put more than that back. The bigger females went back as well as many others as we had more than enough for what everybody wanted. All in all an excellent days fishing, the weather was perfect and the company perfect too.
Just to say bait wise, Herring absolutely was the top bait today. It murdered the Squid in the Roker stakes.

Report on-board Atlantic Diver / Atlantic Explorer

Easter has seen the start of plenty of Cod coming in aboard Atlantic Diver. We were lucky enough to have Mackerel putting in an early appearance , so plenty of fish for the Bar-B-Que! Bottlenose Dolphins were also in Newquay Bay yesterday to the delight of our Sea Anglers...The Grey seals which return to the harbour each year are back to check out the catch of the day and fishing for themselves at Fly Cellars , just outside the Harbour.

    Report on-board Mistress

What a great day we had today. unfortunately I was let down by some anglers and only had two remaining anglers, but I sailed anyway. we stayed close inshore and it was quite hard hard work. we had a mixed bag of cod, ling and whiting until the last hour when we latched into something a little bigger! it took around quarter of an hour to bring up, we were surprised to see a halibut! weighed officially at whitby angling supplies it went 56lb, only 12oz short of the port record.

  • 11/04/2012 Fishing Report by Bob Marshall on Duke IV (Ramsgate, Kent)

11 Apr 2012 by Bob Marshall

    Report on-board Duke IV

Spring has arrived with new water moving north bringing the summer species.
Bass, Skate and Hounds are heading towards The Thames Estuary.
Ronald along with son Declan landed 4 good Skate today on Duke IV with a mixed bag to make up the numbers with some bruiser spottie dogs.
Our first Smoothounds of the season have arrived taking squid baits, now the crab moult will have started soft or peeler crab will be the bait of choice.
Still plenty of herring around so they remain a favourite bait for the Skate.
Hopefully the weather will now settle down, and we can look forward to some good fishing on the offshore wrecks, drifting for Cod, Pollack and Bass on the lures!
Next individuals wreck trip 3rd May!
    Tight lines Bob
