14 Nov 2010 by Mark Hutchings

    Report on-board Jay Jay

November the 14th saw a good day out for a local club both for weather and fish. Catches for the day included over a dozen bull huss upto 12lb, 3 eels upto 20lb, a blonde ray and over 15 spurs the biggest of them being 13.5lb. There were also a few tope runs but none of them led to anything other than lost gear. All in all not a bad day out. This was the first time fishing some new ground which I hope will produce some nice cod in the comming months.....watch this space.

  • 27/11/2010 Fishing Report by Ray Martin on PLAN B (Southend-On-Sea, Essex)

27 Nov 2010 by Ray Martin

    Report on-board PLAN B

Another weekend has passed with mixed results.. Cod are showing but still patchy. We got a few each trip last week, but they are not in the numbers we had last year.
Still plenty of whiting and dogs keeping the rods nodding but the skate seem to have disappeared again.
This cold snap will either make or break the autumn / Winter season.. only time will tell.
Looking forward to the weekend, with two regular groups, just hope the weather is kind.

  • 11/2010 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Nov 2010 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

October and November have been hard months from Holyhead. I guess given the fairly settled weather through the year (wind wise that is), our time of good fortune had to come to an end.
That said, in between the winds, that on occasions reached a Storm Force 10 in Holyhead we have popped out of the hrabour and been rewarded with some fairly decent days afloat.

Owing to lumpy seas and undesirable forecasts we have though been limited on the majority of occasions to fishing within Holyhead Bay.

However, with some good churned up seas the fishing has been reliable on all occasions with typical autumn and winter species coming to the boat in great numbers.

The Species count on most trips has included the good old dogfish and it's larger cousin the bull huss, but also a fair number of codling, coalfish and pollack all averaging in the 3lb bracket.

These highly desirable fish have been topped up with an abundance of good size whiting, many of which have exceeded the 1 1/2 lb mark. OK not monsters of the English Channel, but for our shore, certainly a very good size and important for some - take-able ... with a few chips, happy times!

The ray fishing has been extremely well of late. Normally we tend to fish for thornbacks, spotted and blonde rays in and amongst other general trips throughout the year, our only targeted ray fishing is early season, however this is often scuppered by March and April weather.

October and November has seen many rays come to the boat, with an average size of around 6lb.

With one day being lost to the weather in September we have managed to get afloat for the last 2 of our autumn / winter fun matches.
These matches just throw a little bit of added excitement to a days fishing. Where anglers of all abilities fish for the expected fun, but also try that little bit harder to beat the angler alongside them on the boat. Fishing was hectic during both matches with a good quantity and variety of species being caught, and as the reports prove - it's not only the experienced anglers than reap the rewards.

  • 11/2010 Fishing Report by Paul Fitch on She Likes It Rough 2 (Shotley, Suffolk)

    Nov 2010 by Paul Fitch

Report on-board She Likes It Rough 2

    26th/27th 28th Nov

The end of last week saw us out fishing the bigger tides mainly inshore in search of Codling and whiting. Friday’s trip saw us land over 35 Codling with the biggest just over 5lb 8oz.
Saturday saw us return to the same area but unfortunately the fishing had tailed off with codling numbers down to 12 but plenty of good sized Whiting were caught with 4 or 5 over the 1lb 8oz mark. Well done to the anglers, it was horrible in the morning with the freezing fog and a chilly wind to contend with.
After Saturdays Trip we tried a different area Sunday, but fishing was hard again with the biggest Cod being 6lb 8oz.
It seemed the Spratt’s had arrived in numbers over the weekend which had made the fishing harder, hopefully the strong wind we are getting mid week combined with the larger tides coming up will break up the Spratt’s and see the fishing pick up again.
Now we are nearly into December it will see us targeting the larger cod from the offshore marks, which have fished really well the last 2 or 3 years in the lead up to the New Year. Just to remind you all, if you land the biggest cod of the month aboard the boat this will entitle you to a free offshore wrecking trip next season with us.

  • 30/11/2010 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

30 Nov 2010 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

The biting N/ Easterley continuing here at Whitby but there is light at the end of the tunnel. The forecast is to get better by Saturday or Sunday this week and with the winter inshore competition starting Saturday lets hope the forecasters have got it right!!! With this sea running for a week now it should make for some very good fishing inshore. Pictured here is Graham Stansfield from Leeds with a nice 9lb cod caught inshore at anchor a couple of weeks ago. Our winning competition fish which won the £1000.00 last year was just a couple of ounces better than this. Still time to book on with us lads!
