Report on-board Sally Ann Jo
Finaly the summer arrives, the sun comes out, the sea goes flat and the bream turn up. I had Malcolm McMaconell and his party from up on the Humber out Saturday and Sunday. They thought Saturday was good, catching bream to just over 3lb. Sunday was better, again bream to just over 3lb, over 120 between the 6 of them, Malcolm had 42 himself. Brilliant fishing with a good bunch of anglers who returned the majority of female and smaller fish. Roll on the rest of the summer.

Report on-board PLAN B
Took group of quality anglers from Southend out to a distant mark . Weather was fantastic. Bait was fresh peeler and hermits and quickly hounds started to show, not big about 5lb average. after a couple of hours the sport died along with the tide so we moved further down river and tried our luck again, a few small dogs and whiting on feathers meant for mackerel and then a nice 13.5 hound (see picture) arrived. The tide turned and along with it came rafts of weed, so another move to the spot in the shallows where we caught all the skate the previous day (another secret spot - only 4 other boats there already!)

Some nice skate caught up to around 7lb about 6 or 7 until the weed became unbearable, so we opted for a bit of mackerel bashing for the last half hour which resulted in about a dozen.. -

Took a group of total novices out, what they lacked in skill they made up in enthusiasm. The weather was supposed to be hot but it started off very overcast and gray.
We went to a secret lower river mark (only 2 boats already on it!) and got on the hounds straight away..all falling to large hermit baits, strangely none took squid. We had about 10 but as the tide sacked off I decided to move off to deeper water to try to get a few skate. No bites at all, so moved into shallows for first of flood and caught about 15 skate, best one 10lb (all returned to play another day) a few more hounds plus dogs taking the fish baits intended for skate.
Photo's to follow, my camera ran out of memory, only got one picture of a 7lb hound (the best one was 9.5) -

This was a red letter day for Tope fishing in Cardigan Bay. A total of 33 Tope were boated all male in the 18lb to 34lb range. We lost a further 12 at the boat due to tangled lines. Bull Huss, LSDs, Whiting, Dab, Red Gurnard and Weaver were also landed on the day. -

A superb weekends weather allowed us to fish far offshore from Ramsgate.

Some of the wrecks we fished are 30 mile plus offshore, a long run but worthwhile.
Huge amounts of Cod , Bass and Pollock and shattered anglers !!
Back inshore today as the North Easterly winds have returned but never mind we're getting good hounds upto 15lb and skate to 12lb so far.
Dave.
