    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

Had a bunch of 7 guys from stoke up for the weekend out fishing and staying in our bunkhouse. We readyed the boat at 8:30 awaiting the arrival to set sail at 9:00, Beautifull day yet again with perfect conditons for which we had been asked for a general days fishing. We started on a few local reefs about 5 miles from port which produced a couple dozen Pollack and Collies around the 2lb mark then headed a few more miles down to try a well known mackeral mark (mackeral rock :D) still early on yet but did manage a couple strings of large mackeral with a few mixed pollack and whitting then time came for anchoring up for slack water so we headed a couple miles further to try a slightly rocky area, within 5 minutes of baits going down fish were on thier way up with plenty of Huss, Dogs, Whiting, dabs and Codling with also the first Tub Gurnard of the year the lads were kept busy right through till after the slack. Once the tide picked up we moved in 2 miles to anchor into a rock to try for some more Huss. After an hour we had plenty more fish with a few Huss and again about a dozen Codlings, We then started to work our way back stopping off on a few reefs which produced more Pollack and Collies with a few 4-5lb ones thrown in. All in all plenty of fish, best of the day was a 12lb 3oz Huss, Fishing is getting better every trip now with all the species moving in, with the mackeral just around the corner.

    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

Had a group of 7 guys across from near liverpool who wanted to try thier luck on some rays and turbot.
We set of at 8:30 with the kettle and biscuits ready whilst we had a 20 mile steam down the coast to some sand banks. The weather was perfect for a day out, on arrival we threw the anchor down and all our baits went down with the kettle on again. Fishing was steady all day with some hectic patches, we moved around a few times to vary the fishing. The day ended with 2 Turbot 3 Rays plenty of Whiting and Dogfish with a dozen or so Dabs and Plaice thrown in on some small baits. All in all not a bad trip to the banks for a first of the year and still early on. Mackeral showing anyday with 1 being caught so far, Pollack and Wrasse have made a show with the odd Tope run at anchor.

  • 09/04/2010 Fishing Report by Gethyn Owen on My Way 2 (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

9 Apr 2010 by Gethyn Owen

    Report on-board My Way 2

With a nice ridge of high pressure coinciding with neap tides, the fishing off Holyhead has come alive quite nicely. Whilst on the drift, pollack averaging a few lb have been located under the rock ledges of the Island and also near Holyhead’s Famous breakwater, some early ballan and cuckoo wrasse are adding to the drifts.

Inshore anchor has seen an array of smaller species including dogs, whiting, codling and dabs etc. Whilst offshore in Holyhead Deep, far more double figure huss have come over the gunwales than you can count. Every bite appears to produce a decent fish, when not on a huss we have also had spurs and a few nice 20lb+ tope adding to the excitement.

With more settled weather ahead of us, I hope you enjoy you fishing in the weeks ahead.

  • 13/04/2010 Fishing Report by Sam Cumming on Silver Spray II (Poole, Dorset)

13 Apr 2010 by Sam Cumming

    Report on-board Silver Spray II

The banks fishing off Poole has continued to be excellent with good catches of blonde rays and spurdogs. There have also been some nice cod and congers in the mix as well. Over the last weekend James Howarth from Christchurch decided to have a trip afloat instead of his usual carp fishing. He managed 2 spurs the best of which was weighed at 20lb before being returned alive. This fish was very close to the Wessex record fish of 20lb 7oz which we caught on the same mark last year. James mate Tristan added a 12lb cod so that there was something for supper! Our best blonde ray this month was a 24lb caught by Greg David from Wantage.

When the weather has permitted we have ventured up to 40 miles offshore to fish on the wrecks. There have been good numbers of Pollack caught on artificial lures. Dave Faulker had a cracking fish of 17lb 8oz on a blue sidewinder. He followed it up with a 13lber on the next drift! Kelvin Hindmarch from Overton had a great ling of 29lb on a wreck 20 miles to the SW of Poole. We have only just found this one and it has tremendous potential for congers which seem to be everywhere on the ground around the wreckage. The best congers this month have reached the 50lb mark but there are bigger ones to come.

The first bream have been reported and numbers are expected to increase with the warmer weather. We are also expecting the turbot fishing to take off soon.

Report on-board She Likes It Rough 2

    SAT 10TH APRIL
Our first Pollock of the season were caught. A successful trip landing 20 Pollock biggest fell to Stevie at 11lb 8oz with another couple pushing 9lb also being caught. Most fish fell to sidewinder lures and jellyworms. No big cod as yet on the wrecks biggest on the day was 8lb but plenty were caught. As the month progresses we should see the clearer water pushing closer in to us, and hopefully some better cod thrown in as well.

  • 04/2010 Fishing Report by Pete Rose on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

    Apr 2010 by Pete Rose

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

On Friday and Saturday I decided to steam off to distant grounds as the inshore fishing was poor of late also the weather was perfect flat sea and blue sky both days, Friday I had Karl from Pickering with a small group who chartered the entire boat and I explained the inshore fishing situation they agreed the only realistic chance of getting in the prizes was to try some distant ground and wrecks to the east and at the limit of my licence range, after an epic journey and a few stops at some unknown wrecks which produced the odd fish we arrived and the fishing was much better than recent inshore trips but nothing of any size we had around 15 or 20 fish cod to around 7lb pollock to 4lb and some large whitings around 2lb mark we only had a few hours fishing and had to head for home,
Saturdays anglers Clinton and Chris from chesterfield were told the same story and they also agreed a steam was the sensible option this time I diced ed to work a few wrecks north around 18mls away and this time as soon as we arrived all the rods were in which gave everyone a smile after the long but sunny steam the day produced around the same 20 fish or so with cod the most common after a change of tide the fish stopped feeding so I headed for some wrecks around 12mls off which produced nothing neither did the 9 mile ground so all in all not a bad two days in the present scheme of things roll on summer
