  • 15/06/2022 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

15 Jun 2022 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

With the tides being on the heavier side at the moment, yesterday’s mixed group basically had 2 windows where we had a chance of catching.
The first slack water just after breakfast, produced about a dozen fish from a bit of scrap 6 miles from shore which was ok.
We scratched around for the next few hours waiting for the tide to ease, picking up just a handful of fish as we were racing along the drift at 1.7 knots.
We moved to another couple of wrecks close to each other for the second slack water period where the lads took around 20 more fish to finish their day off.
All in all, tide taken into account, not too bad a day with superb sea conditions and great company.
Cheers lads and see you all soon.
Regular lad aboard the boat, Bill Barraclough fishing the best on the day taking 8 fish himself.
    Cheers
    Rich

  • 06/2022 Fishing Report by phillip browning on Braveheart II (Wallasea Island, Essex)

    Jun 2022 by phillip browning

    Report on-board Braveheart II

the movement inshore of the summer species is well underway , and the fishing for the most part has been very good and the weather for the most part has been settling down. The later part of April, we had the influx of smoothounds in good numbers and the average size has been exceptional. The good ol reliable thornback ray numbers have been down on previous years, largely to do with commercial pressure but the numbers are still good. Bass fishing has been a bit late to kick off this year but in recent weeks there are signs that we are in for a very good year ,and just pray that we get lots of settled weather. Thanks to all the Anglers and crews that have booked with me so far this year and it gives me great satisfaction and pleasure to give everyone a good day .
This year I have started incorporating family trips into my charters especially for dad's mums, grandads etc who would like to give their kids/grandkids an enjoyable day out with a fishing experience . These trips are usually 5 or 6 hours in the sheltered waters of the river crouch at a cost of 260 for up to 7 anglers and can be very productive and give the kids a day they will never forget!

See you all on board soon
    Phil

  • 14/06/2022 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

14 Jun 2022 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

    Two’s company…..three’s a crowd!

Peter Carter and Ben Shaw booked Sea Urchin for the day today. With it being a big tide, the majority of the day would be spent on the rough ground around Whitby. That said, we took the opportunity to drop straight on a wreck close into the harbour when we set out, as slack water beckoned off the flood tide. We had a handful of Codling and Ling, but I felt that some of the tackle being used wasn’t quite up to the job.

Peter and Ben both agreed to switch over to braided mainline (instead of mono), heavier leads to hold bottom and we also got some whole squid mounted on muppet bait traces, instead of the really small Hokkai’s they started with. This set the tone for the day. Strong stout tackle usually wins the day at Whitby.

Once the Ebb tide got away, we moved out to some rough ground marks and started to pick away nicely. The banter between the boys was great, it was like abusive tennis as the insults went back and forth between each fish.
Peter secured ultimate bragging rights when he cranked up a nice 11lb Ling, which eclipsed the brace of 8’s that Ben had.

To be fair, it went a bit quiet in the afternoon when the wind spoiled things a bit, making the lines stream badly. But the boys persevered, taking a few more fish, before we headed back in. All in all, a great day out in great company.

  • 09/06/2022 Fishing Report by anthony collins on Kestrel warrior 6 (Newhaven, East Sussex)

9 Jun 2022 by anthony collins

    Report on-board Kestrel warrior 6

So today I had Tony and the gang onboard and I have to say it was an extremely hard days fishing.
Firstly, we was ment to catch smoothies but ended going on a species hunt
We started off the day heading west in search of smoothies, but when we got to the first mark it was made apparent that the wind would quickly be the death of the smoothound trip. We weren't able to get a straight line at anchor. Infact we sat beam on to the sea witch made fishing impossible. After the first hour we did manage a couple of species, dabs /dogs, gurnard and mackerel. It soon died so we decided to go abit futher out hoping that the tide would push us round. How I was so wrong!
As we got offshore we put the anchor down next to a wreck. We managed some pout Pollock and weaver fish off the wreck and then decided to come back in to see if we could catch some bream. This was worse off then where we was at anchor, Moving back to our original spot to catch bugger all. After sitting in nearly 2mtr swells all day I said to the lads we would try for some plaice close to shore. we headed to the break water for some cover but with no joy just sitting meters from the Habour entrance with no where to hide. We cut the trip short and headed for home. 7 species isn't bad I suppose, but it was such hard work. There's always a next time.

  • 12/06/2022 Fishing Report by Peter Mackintosh on Mistress (Tyne, Tyne and Wear)

12 Jun 2022 by Peter Mackintosh

    Report on-board Mistress

An absolute belter of a days fishing aboard Mistress.
We searched for mackerel, for bait, early morning but struggled to land half a dozen.
We set off to try a couple of wrecks, but there was a stiff west-northwest wind blowing which made conditions difficult, so we ventured inshore to fish the hard ground. As soon as we dropped the bites started ; it was non stop sport all day. Baited green squid lures, green hokkais and daylites accounted for most of the fish. Best baits were prawns and mackerel strip. Most of the fish were around the 2lb mark, and all cod, with some decent ones mixed in. Mistress regular, Fred, got the better stamp, up to about 6lb. All the just over size ones were returned, but as you can see in the photo, we all finished still ended the day with a lot of fish. Thanks for a fantastic day Tony.
To book a trip contact the skipper, Tony Avis. Tight lines.
