Some of the fish caught on today's trip
View Boats Page
Fishing seamed steady away nearly all trip with each mark producing a good mix of fish.
The lads today managed to get a good mix of species, codling, pollock, coalfish, ballen wrasse, pouting, scorpion fish, and a lessor spotted dogfish.
Throughout the day we tried feathers, tubes hokkais, shads, slow jigs on the drift.
As the wind picked up and the drift became way to fast we went back to basics and anchored up for some uptide and downtide fishing. which today seamed to be alot more productive with squid and lugworm been the preferred bait.
We also tried crab cart, peelers, mackerel, sandeel but these didnt seam to be the prefered choice today even though all the cod caught were full of soft back crabs.
Nice to see a good amount of size fish returned to fight anouther day. -

Report on-board Kestrel warrior 6
So yesterday we had a birthday party on board lovely bunch of kids. First port of call was for me to stop off at #toolsandtackle in Newhaven where I picked up some snakes. my god I've never seen ragworm like it needless to say they were good. After seeing Sam I popped down to the boat. Meeting with Paul at #fortroadcafe this was the meeting point for my crew. We got to know eachother up by the café one of the kids think his name was cass said about catching mahi mahi so I new right then I had alot to prove. Once aboard I gave a quick breif and we was off to our first spot. Thaught I would give it ago on the lures. And it was quickly aparant it was going to be utter Chao's. After loosing quite a few lures and snapping a rod I decided enough was enough and managed to go onto the sand.this was also a wrong moove as we where all getting in a muddle and tangle's Galore. Me being a good sport I took it all In my stride.

After all of the mess and Chao's I decided that I had to do something very simple yet very much pleasing. So after thinking to myself what I would do if I was a kid I had a brain wave and thaught about what #brightoninshorefishing fishy rob has told me. So with that I moved to a little bit of very basic fishing and bingo we had hit the jackpot. Fish after fish started coming over the side. We started off catching some pout but then bream plaice dabs small Pollock that all started to come over the side of the boat. Apart from all the loss of tackle seeing those kids face's light up made it all worthwhile for me.
This is why I love my job

Regular anglers on the boat yesterday and what a day they had on the Cod!!

Starting on a wreck a couple of miles from the harbour entrance the lads were straight into the fish on the baited rigs and the Shads.
We decided that wreck hopping was the order for the first two or three hours with the breeze over the tide and holding us steady on the drift.
The next couple of wrecks throwing another dozen or so fish out.
After the flood tide bent through and the breeze still with us and at the back of the tide we tried some ground/reef marks and they fished well too, the lads taking another 20 plus fish.
The numbers were gathering very well indeed.
We finished the day on a tiny bit of scrap that only a couple of the skippers here have and took another dozen or so from that.
Paul from Brid and Dave Sharp were top rods today, the pair of them taking around 30 fish between them! Good fishing lads.
The rest of the crew taking some lovely bags of fillets home for the table too.
No whoppers but nice Ling to 9lb 6oz and Cod to 7lb.
A fabulous day with the weather, company and the fishing.
Cheers lads and see you all again soon.

In today’s news…..Simon Ullyot and five of his good friends had the boat for the day; as they do every month through the Summer. Always fantastic company and a day I really look forward to.

With a smaller tide we didn’t run off far, starting on an inshore wreck a couple of miles from the pier ends. Despite a bit of breeze the Codling were certainly after their breakfast, with plenty of bites. Dave Massey got off to a great start and picked off a fish a drift, with a lovely 9lb 8oz Codling taking his Squid baited muppet being the highlight.
We had a couple of moves over the first three hours and everyone got themselves some nice fish to take home. I’m not one for reporting on “the one that got away” but today we lost three really decent fish to hookpulls. Nick Massingham managed to get something special out of the wreck after a massive tussle, for it to fall off on the way up…..bummer.
Once the flood tide got away, the drift speed increased, so we moved out to some rough ground. This didn’t work out brilliantly, with only a handful of small Codling, so we moved back to wrecks.
To be fair, the second half of the day was hard work for us. The wind was gusting and getting a decent drift was difficult. The boys persevered, but we definitely had the best of the conditions earlier in the day.
All I can say is…if Carlsberg did Customers!! See you in a couple of weeks boysUPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Yesterday’s lads were another mixed group which to be fair, make up the majority of our teams these days.

The day started off slowly with the “devils” wind blowing from the ESE.
Hindered fishing for the first hour or two until eventually the breeze dropped out and conditions improved, which is when the fishing improved too.
The regular 3 out of the group, Chris Siddle, Alan Sutcliffe and Bill Barraclough fished the best, clicking fish everywhere we stopped.
Nice to see the inshore wrecks are showing again on these neap tides as they did a couple of weeks ago.
Fish falling to the baited Hokkai rigs more than the Shad yesterday.
Alan is pictured inset with one of his many Codling.
Cheers and keep a tight line,
Rich

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
After a weeks family holiday, it was nice to get back out to sea today. It was a boat of mixed experience’s in terms of angling ability, but with a smaller tide, I hoped to get everyone a few fish from some inshore wrecks.
View Boats Page
With a SE breeze first thing, there was a bit of lift which made the fishing a bit tricky. This didn’t deter the fish or the anglers, as plenty of fish were caught each drift. Mainly Codling in the 3-5lb bracket, along with a raft of Pouting.
After a couple of hours steady fishing and with everyone having a few already, we had a move to try some different wrecks. Some were better than others, but all produced fish. Don Wang took the biggest fish of the day at just under 10lb. It’s great to finally have some decent inshore sport. We just need the Mackerel to turn up and it’s full steam ahead.
Ian Kellock was top rod today and caught consistently on every wreck, with some very tidy angling. Squid on bait traces with muppets dominated, with Hokkai’s taking a lot of Pouting and an odd Codling. All in all a lovely day out, thanks lads.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl
