    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Last weeks fishing wasn’t exactly what you would call brilliant on Sea Urchin.….in fact, I thought it was bang average at best. With three trips cancelled for rubbish weather, Tuesday, Friday and today were the only days we went to sea.

With smaller tides, I had hoped to get a better stamp of fish from some of the inshore wrecks; but it never happened. The lads on board plugged away all day and most took plenty of nice pan sized Codling home, but the average size was on the small side at 3-4lb with only an odd 5lb fish (hence the lack of photos).

All the usual methods produced fish; bait traces, Hokkai’s and Shads. The Mackerel have been elusive for the last few days, so Squid has been the dominant bait. Of the three days at sea, we never had one full day of decent fishing conditions. Either the wind and/or swell spoilt either the morning or afternoon. When the conditions were good we caught, but definitely struggled at other times.

I always try my hardest for the anglers, to put them on fish and get frustrated when the conditions go against us all the time. So if this report sounds a bit negative, I apologise, but last week certainly tested my resolve. It’s definitely not all “Champagne and Skittles” as Del Boy says!! Hoping for a big improvement on tomorrow’s trip.

    Tight Lines

    Andy

    Report on-board Kestrel warrior 6

Sunday 3rd July fishing report. So Sunday saw very bad wether and high seas.but in true pirate fashion we we're at sea. Sunday's crew wanted something different so we went tope fishing.startind our day off we left the harbour around 9am heading to a mark known for its tope.on the way out I was doing my daily live feed #kestrelwarriorfishingtv on tiktok. once we got to the mark we started off by fishing for mackerel. once we had enough mackerel we started to go for the tope and once they started I think we had 3 hookups at the same time. after about an hour the Anker tripped so we had to reset but the second time down I lost my Anker for a silly reason I wasn't watching what I was doing. so after that fail we decided to go close to shore and fish for bass. but one of the crew was very green so we went in I said to the lads I would do a free trip as the fishing trip went very wrong they were happy with that and rebooked sometimes we as skippers need to do this to show we are not out to rob people.

    Report on-board SWN Y MOR

Hi offshore wreck fishing quite good at the moment with pollock and coalfish. Pollock to 13 lbs but most in 5 to 7 lbs range . Smaller coalfish a pain on some wrecks but some reasonable 4 lbs range. Not much cod about yet odd ones unusual for this time of the year usually abundant on some wrecks . Mackerel off good size at the moment . Cheers Roy

    Report on-board Galloper

There continue to be some great hounds and bass showing lately. The hounds are in big numbers at times and really keeping us busy. There have been a lot of small fish around but if you kiss a lot of frogs there seems to be the occasional prince among them. Most days have seen hounds into double figures which livens things up in between the smaller fish. a few decent bass showing most days too and they soon get the skipper reaching for the net. Many of our trips have seen small tope showing too, these vary from just born to 7-10lbs on our general trips and have been quite numerous at times. Also a bit of a pain for biting through hook links! Our offshore trips are the best bet for the bigger fish and I still have a few spaces on these including this week
One or two rays are still showing along with a few dogfish and whiting here and there. Other species will turn up too.
I only have a few spaces left on tope trips this year including some this week on Wednesday (6th) and Thursday (7th). If you are interested then please get in touch on 07956411528
Keep an eye out for other spaces or boat availability at essexseafishing.co.uk or find us on facebook

My next spaces offshore are for tope. These are for experienced anglers only and I don’t offer hire rods for this fishing. I only have a few suitable tides left for tope fishing this year offshore trips will mainly concentrate on bass after that. Spaces as follows

  • 04/07/2022 Fishing Report by Nick Gough on Skylark (Scarborough, North Yorkshire)

4 Jul 2022 by Nick Gough

    Report on-board Skylark

Catch report from today 6 hour trip

We started the trip running off to our inshore wrecks and the anglers manged to catch half a dozen codling around 3lb as well as a few pouting whiting and mackerel after a few hours the winds rapidly increased and the drift became really fast.

So we decided to run inshore and go back to basics with downtiding, fishing was steady with a good amount of codling been caught again around the 1lb to 3lb area and a few pollock aswel.

Best fish today was a 7lb cod closely followed by a 6lb pollock.
