    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Things are finally showing signs of improvement.

As mentioned previously, the fishing has been difficult recently, with many of the wrecks producing nothing for us…..very frustrating, for me and the anglers.
Simon Ulyott and five of his friends regularly book the boat for themselves, the banter flows all day and it is generally a great day out. We had a fairly quiet morning and just as we were thinking it was going to be another dire day, things picked up at slack water and for the remainder of the day.

The Ling were feeding well and a whole Mackerel with the fillets removed provided Simon with a lovely brace of Ling, the best one going 8lb. Norman was top rod taking a catch of Codling up to 5lb. Everyone managed a fish or two to take home, which was a welcome relief. Here’s hoping things continue to improve. Well done boys.

  • 04/07/2021 Fishing Report by Peter Mackintosh on Mistress (Tyne, Tyne and Wear)

4 Jul 2021 by Peter Mackintosh

    Report on-board Mistress

There was a bit of a roll early morning and the fog was quite thick. We had a go at the mackerel, but could only manage a few before heading off to the wrecks. Fishing was slow to start, so we had a go on a bit of ground and hit a good drift. There were plenty of just size fish, which were returned to the water. Mixed amongst them were some better codling, the best was caught by Jim, around the 7 lb mark, on baited daylites. The mackerel appeared on the same drift and the fresh baited helped land some decent fish. A good day was had by all.

    Report on-board Seadog charters

Been enjoying some good weather and good fishing the last few days. With skate trips of 13/11/10/16 fish a day, to 199lbs.

On Friday with only 3 guys on the boat I thought we would try a few new marks out. First off we found the mackerel for some fresh bait, then headed out to drift some ridges with not much luck. We’ve been finding fishing deeper this year seems to produce more fish, so moved onto another area and found the Spurs, every drop and up to 6/7lb. Next time we will have to get the anchor down and find the bigger ones!
The plan was skate next, but again a slight change from the norm. We set the anchor down in deep water over an old wreck, 20 mins later we had the first skate on! Next up was a conger that fought as good any of the smaller summer skate ended with 10 skate and one conger of 45lbs.

As usual for summer we are seeing lots of nice immature skate in the sound of jura. With some all new 30/50 class rods and braided line they provide great sport, and a bit less pain to the bigger fish we get in autumn to spring. Ofcourse we will see a few big girls come along too, some trips have seen them to just under 200lbs.
