  • 06/2021 Fishing Report by John Peck on Lady Margaret (Poole, Dorset)

    Jun 2021 by John Peck

    Report on-board Lady Margaret

The fishing is currently very good with a wide range of species available. We have also been helped by generally favourable weather. On some days the weather has been stunning.

The highlight of the recent fishing on "Lady Margaret" has definitely been the plaice fishing. There have been huge numbers of fish around on the local marks including some bigger fish in the 3lb+ range. On some sessions the fishing has been frenetic with bites coming all round the boat more similar to bream or bass fishing.

The bream fishing continues to be good. Hopefully this will carry on for a while yet as the fish were quite late establishing themselves this year. Lots of smaller fish around but also some bigger ones.

We haven't done much bass fishing this month but what we have done has been very poor which is a bit surprising as June is normally a great month. Fortunately, the great plaice fishing on the way in has come to the rescue. Hopefully this is just a blip and the bass fishing will improve soon.

We have also seen a nice variety of other species including turbot and brill, rays, conger, bull huss, double figure smoothhounds and tope to 20lb+.

    Report on-board Mistress

Our 1st day entering the WCSA Grand Summer Festival yesterday saw our anglers among the fish.

The mackerel played ball for us giving us plenty of fresh bait for the day.

We managed plenty of nice fish with some going into double figures, we also lost some better fish too! But that's fishing!

We finished the day on high taking a daily 1st place.

    Tight lines Rich

Pictured is Pete from Bradford with his best fish of the day, winning him £50!

We even had our first run of mackerel today and while fishing we managed to get a glimpse of 2 minke whales but they only surfaced a few times and when we got the cameras out they were gone

  • 07/2021 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Jul 2021 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

We have been flat out with charters due to the very good weather conditions during the recent weeks.

Finally we got chance to go sharking for the first time this year, the conditions where very poor for sharking only drifting at 0.5 kts with wind against tide and no wind on both slack waters making it very hard to cover ground with our chum slick.

The lads did manage to catch two Porgies and four Blues, I explained to the lads we will only boat one shark per person per day if they want a photo on the deck.

Wrecking has been incredible in fact I have been saying to the lads this is what you call catching not fishing, 120 to 170 fish in 4 to 5 hours mostly Pollack to 11lb, Cod, Ling and Coalfish.

Most of the lads we have had onboard have all agreed once you fill your cool box with fillets we just head back in, if there is one thing I hate is fish being wasted.

Tope fishing has been hit and miss one day we have caught up to 25 Tope the next day just one or two, the Bream fishing has been excellent when the conditions have been just right up to 120+ per day to 2lb.

Again most of the lads are happy to put the bream under 1lb back and just keep a dozen or so bigger fish.

We where lucky enough to have had the famous Ridge Monkey Fishing Company from Liverpool out filming there new series of challenges around the UK, great bunch of lads and very professional with the film crew, there should be some epic footage of the lads fighting Tope and using a drone on the water line out the back of the boat to get a total different angle on fighting the fish.

Sadly we are fully booked till November in Scotland but don’t forget give Adam Jenkins a call on 07736 678506 his boat is called Western Flyer operating from Shell island, Adam is a good skipper and knows this area like the back of his hand, we have been working together to make sure we both keep our anglers on the fish.

    Thanks

    Report on-board Brigand

Well what a day! Headed out on one of our long distance trips today to an area we usually fish on our French trips and which has never failed to throw up excellent fish when conditions permit - today’s crew hit the Bass Jackpot! I’ve never seen so many, good quality fish in such high numbers. At times the chaps were pulling up strings of 6lb Bass on feathers 3 at a time, and they were the smaller ones………..it was absolutely insane fishing!
Great company, great fishing and now I’m in need of some sleep!
    Best wishes

We had our first go for the summer bream at the weekend which turned out to be quite productive with good sized fish coming to the boat biggest going 3LB 2oz as well as some nice bullhuss in amongst it. Using light gear these fish gave us great sport on a flat calm day
