The good weather has also meant I've been working a lot of hours and out of signal range.
We started on our offshore bass trips last week. Richards group did well in some challenging conditions ahead of this settled spell. Thankfully the fish were feeding well and we managed a few on lures and good numbers on bait. Once the lads got in the grove there was a steady stream of fish coming in. The lads kept two each and we ended up putting lots of sizable fish back. There were plenty of fish just shy of the limit and a few hounds too.
We mixed in more lures and live bait as weather conditions improved over the following days and had some lovely fish in the 4-6lb range too.
Our general trips have produced more decent hounds and even another Conger and a stingray.

Blimey! Two days on the trot!!
View Boats Page
Most unusual this year.
Yesterday we had a good mixed group of lads on board, six of them regular Shy-Torque customers and two pairs of newcomers who were made most welcome aboard the boat.
We gathered the bait for the day with a steady 10 minutes Mackerelling and headed out NE to a couple of the more offshore wrecks which, like yesterday’s, hadn’t been touched for over a week.
The first one kept us busy for a nice steady couple of hours or so until at slack water, things slowed up and the fish went off the feed. 30-35 keepers though, which was a decent enough start for the lads.
Everything falling to the fresh Mackerel and squid.
We had a short move then to the next bit of scrap which to be fair, only chucked around 4 fish out.
Back to the first one then for the start of the flood tide and with the breeze holding the boat off it nicely, we picked another 8 fish from it.
By this time the pesky SE breeze was drawing down and we decided to finish off on a couple of inshore marks where, on the second drift, Ivan Davey hooked into something a bit better. A Ling which was nudging around 14lbs which we thought might have had a chance for the daily prize.
It missed by about an ounce at the weigh-in!
Unlucky Ivan!
Another nice day on the water with the lads and a real pleasure meeting Shaun and Wayne from Nottingham and Ed and Adam from Scarborough.
Hopefully see you all again soon.
Cheers for now,
Rich.

Such a great feeling getting back to sea yesterday after a week off for rubbish weather.

Cliff Atkinson and his four mates from Cumbria had the boat booked for the day.
Just love those light crews. Oodles of space!
We stopped off for some Mackerel first where the lads picked around two dozen fish which was plenty for the five of them for the day, along with the squid bait they’d brought.
We then marched out to a nice big wreck North of the harbour to start the work.
After a weeks rest out there I was really hoping for some good results but we only took around a dozen fish there, Shaun taking four of them himself. He was off to a reasonable start.
Cliff took a nice Codling, a shade over 9lbs.
The fish only had half a tail and we wondered if it had escaped the clutches of a seal maybe sometime.
The next wreck we dropped on was in to the West a few miles.
This one produced a similar result for the five.
Shaun managed to a Ling just over 7lbs from this one along with another couple of fish.
Everything so far on the baited rigs.
We then dropped back South a couple of miles and tried a small wreck which lays in some ground.
Again, just a handful of fish from it and again, Shaun taking the most! He really was on it today!
The last drop we had was just three miles East of the harbour where, yet again, Shaun took the only fish from it! A couple of Pollack. Someone was certainly looking down on him yesterday!
Total tally for the day was around thirty five fish, with the usual returns, of which I reckon good old Shaun would have had fifteen of them. A lovely day for him on the fish.
No big fish to contend with the leader in this year’s Summer competition but a cracking day afloat with great banter and some fabulous sunshine for a change!
Great to see you lads,
Until the next one.
Rich

It was fantastic to get back out to sea today.

Gary Grantham and five friends had the boat booked for the day and they’re always excellent company a decent anglers to boot. With it being a small neap tide we ran out to a patch of rough ground to try and catch a few fresh Mackerel to supplement the Squid. After around 30 minutes we only had 20 or so, but couldn’t afford to waste any more time……we had some “wreck hopping” to do!
We opted to push the tide and try some wrecks south of Whitby which I always enjoy fishing, especially when they’ve not been pressured too much recently. The first one we fished, everyone went over with the usual muppet traces baited with Squid and/or Mackerel. We had a reasonable start taking five fish the first drift and the same again the second. Along with a couple of strap Ling there was a reasonable stamp of Codling with almost all them being 4lb - 5lb and no chuck backs.
This wreck kept us entertained right the way through slack water before sport slowed a little. With plenty to go at nearby, we moved on to try another; caught a few, then moved on again. The pattern for the day was set, and on the turn of tide the breeze eased off giving us a cracking drift line. The lads all fished brilliantly and as the day progressed, the stamp of Ling improved and we managed to take plenty in the 5-7lb range along with half a dozen low doubles. Gordon Blyth was “Top Rod” today and put together an 18 fish box of Cod and Ling plus a few throwbacks. But everyone got in on the action which is what it’s all about.
It was one of those days where if we couldn’t get a few with the excellent tide, weather and sea conditions it would have been a bad job. But the boys didn’t disappoint with some solid angling and great banter. Thanks lads for a great day out.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Great to be back out after the recent bad weather and to be joined by Jing, her family and friends. Plenty of fish caught but Bream mainly on the small size released to grow up. A few decent table fish, plaice including this slab of a fish, cuttle and some very decent sized mackerel. Lovely bunch of people on the boat and we were joined by a very friendly pod of dolphins to top the day off.
