  • 30/08/2019 Fishing Report by Colin Penny on Flamer IV (Weymouth, Dorset)

30 Aug 2019 by Colin Penny

    Report on-board Flamer IV

Lee Warlow and members of the "Master Baiters SAC" from Swansea enjoyed their two day Angling Break aboard Flamer IV and caught 22 species over the two days which included Turbot, Black Bream, Small Eyed Ray, Undulate Ray, Bass, Bull Huss, Congers, Red Gurnard, Plaice etc. The guys did well on day 1 in breezy and choppy conditions catching Black Bream, Turbot and Rays while drift fishing. The weather was better on day 2 but the guys had to be patient as the fish were playing hard to get as we anchored a few reef marks and did some drift fishing.

Flamer IV catch of the day trophies were awarded to Lee Warlow on day one and Zac on day two, they were both pleased with their trophies.

The club have already booked for April 2020 with a days Wreck fishing and a Flat Fish day planned.

Pictured is Lee with one of the six Turbot which he caught while drifting a Bank using a two hook flowing trace with Mackerel strips as bait presented on Sakuma size 4/0 Stinger hooks.

Weather been bit blowey again stopped us getting out to the bass banks. Had to rely on inshore marks but not a issue got plenty of whiting , spotty dogs few smoothounds thrown in. Decent one here pictured for Paul Layton here . Had several thornbacks too returned due to all being female great for conservation. Looking ahead to the weekend was hoping to nip out a bit for last of the tope not looking likely with a northerly wind forcast will see what happens. Keep you posted. Cheers Jon (High Flyer 2)

  • 03/09/2019 Fishing Report by Stuart Stead on TopCat Charters (Ramsgate, Kent)

3 Sep 2019 by Stuart Stead

    Report on-board TopCat Charters

We were asked to be the host boat for an awareness swim to Save the Goodwin Sands. The day started off very early and dark at 5am. The weather picked up and we started to have nice bit of sun. While there was one swimmer in the water, the rest of the party onboard was inquiry on fishing and how good the fishing was in the bay of Sandwich. During a well deserved break for lunch, we decided to let the swimmers have a go at fishing. After a few mackerel caught, they were surprised how easy it was. After the event had finished, we gave the Mackerel to the party organiser to have for his supper, he so proud he got to fish as it was a first time experience.

    Report on-board Razorbill 3

Hi Well it's been a long time since I put a report on here but I thought a review of the summer fishing would make a good report, After a poor winter fishing season the spring arrived and yes we were fishing for Thornbacks with good numbers of fish up to 16lb then when the weather warmed up we started to see good numbers of Bass , there were lots of fish from 30 to 40cm and a good number fish over 42 cm and at least the anglers could keep a fish each unlike last year when it was catch and release, but that's another story, So with the late spring Bass and Thornback fishing, the better weather arrived and so did the Smoothounds with good numbers of double figure fish caught up to22lb, So fishing was close inshore with good mixed bags of Bass, Smoothounds and Thornback rays , Oh yes, there might have been a number of Dogfish as well..... well you can't have everything. I have downloaded the best pictures of the fishing over the spring and summer.
