Report on-board Better Days
The hound fishing is picking up with bigger specimens being caught. There are plenty of bass but not in the sizes we’d be hoping for, most bellow the 3lb range but the occasional 6lb+ is coming up from ramsgate. Hopefully as the bass migrate through we should see some better bass in numbers and hopefully some early codling. As the summer is drawing to a end we are noticing a increase in whiting, mackerel, and a very steady stream of large amounts of fish. Hopefully some nice pictures will be uploaded soon.

Bookings are due to start being taken during the beginning of September as the fishing picks up. September can be one of the best months out of ramsgate with big smooth-hound and bass Fishing. Plenty of other species such as thornbacks,Whiting,Pouting,Mackerel,Dog fish and Cod can also be caught inshore. -

Report on-board Flamer IV
The Goble family booked Flamer IV for a 2 day Angling Break and on the first day fishing to the east of Weymouth landed plenty of Tope in the 20Ib to 25Ib bracket which were all returned alive. The baits used were combinations of Squid, Mackerel fillets and Mackerel frames which all proved to be successful. Jack Goble hooked into a Shark which gave him some serious runs before getting off, this is the second time this year we have had a Shark attack on this mark.

Fishing Report by Ross Parham
on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)
Aug 2019 by Ross Parham
Report on-board Spot On!
With our first ever thresher shark trip unfortunately canceled due to bad weather and last weeks shark trip cancelled also, I was wondering if I was ever going to get to go shark fishing this year!
View Boats Page
But the first shark trip of the year was certainly one to remember for all onboard Spot On!
The lads wanted to have a go for some sharks closer to home in the hope of catching a thresher that have been spotted regularly this year.
We headed out armed and ready. Once we arrived it was busy on deck getting the rubby dubby in place, rods baited and floats sent out in formation and we waited and we waited some more then the screaming run we wanted and I was lucky to have it on my rod so I picked up the rod and clicked the drag into strike on my pen reel and it was not slowing down, then into full drag and still not slowing down, I was thinking to myself this has gotta be my thresher as the line flew out horizontal as we were all waiting for the leap these fish are famous for but it didn't and it just kept running and running, pulling the boat around in circles with its strength.
The fish finally showed itself in typical pin wheel style and it was then we got our glimpse of the first Tuna to be hooked on Spot On! And the first for a Brixham charter boat.
We towed the fish alongside to remove the hook and keep oxygen over its gills, it was measured at 72". Making it approx 220/250lb. Fish released and swam away and it was back in formation and then John had a run resulting with a nice small blue shark of approx 40lb.
Later in the day again it was my rod screaming off again, I picked it up and the same as before but this was bigger and faster. I gave the rod to the lads to fight and went and started the engines. Twin engine outside controls made easy work following the fish as it stripped the reel of its 100lb braid.
Then the dives, the same as before so we knew it had to be another Tuna and it was, this time a massive 92" 400/450lb monster swam alongside us as we measured, towed, removed the hook and released to see this amazing creature up close and personal was stunning and the sheer power and size of these fish is immense.
Another run and number 2 blue shark of 60lb caught which took 2 baits but still did some great strong runs and put up a good scrap, one more dropped run and that was that, we packed up and headed home with memories that will last a lifetime.
I have some underwater footage on my go pro and awaiting some better pictures that the lads took for me so they will be updated in due course.
Please remember any BLUEFIN TUNA caught will have to be released at the side of the boat.
We did not set out to catch these fish and to hook 2 and land 2 in the same trip is astonishing.
I have emailed the Brixham MMO office and notified them of these captures and updated them with measurements.
Spot On is Brixhams premier charter boat and again another first for a Brixham charter boat. Not 1 fish but 2!
2019 bookings being taken. -

Report on-board Mistress
It was a decent days fishing with plenty of mackerel showing early morning. The wind gradually increased, blowing south westerly, and made conditions a bit tricky after lunch, but we managed to pick cod up steadily. Most were just size and a little over and were returned for another day. We managed some better cod to about 5lb. Fish of the day went to Mistress regular Shaun, who landed a nice 7lb Pollock using a spoon/ shad combination on flowing trace. With high pressure forecast hopefully the winds will settle and improve conditions further.
