Some great plaice fishing in the bay on the big tides with 45 being the best day so far. Will be looking to go offshore in search for the spurs and blonde rays on the next set of neap tides.

Report on-board Mistress
Started with a message from CBUK saying the "Mistress" had updated her content . Which got me thinking I hadn't had a trip in a while so I rang Rich , The skipper and asked about what was avaailable.

Got booked for 22 March 7 oclock sail .
06:30 saw me and a few other anglers Suited and booted and ready to go, quick stop for fuel and we were probably fishing by no later than 07:30
the uptiding was slow but steady with mostly sizable cod coming onboard including a nice 8.5lb fat cod. I caught my usual pouting.. I swear it's the same one every time it gets put back. quite a few very small coddling were brought on board and released to grow bigger.
Rigs used are very simple 40lb hook length of about a metre with 4/0 main hook with 3/0 pennel. that is fastened straight on to the swivel on the main line and a rotton bottom connected to a 8oz grpper sinker
bait was worm and squid.
We moved up and down the coast to the marks that should suit the Tide and weather with Rich as usual explaining why we at a particular spot.
the wind picked towards the day but not unfishable .
A very good day I took home 8 fish some had more and some less but I think we were all well satisfied with the trip.
I will be booking a trip n the mistress for the upcoming festival if there is any seats left. -

A mixed group aboard the boat yesterday. A few regulars and a few newcomers sailing with us.
With the forecasts being so good (for a change!) we had a run offshore to some outer ground marks and had a nice steady days fishing. The water wasn't overly clear and a lot of fish were borderline size and foul hooked on the shads. These were returned safely. The majority were on the baited rigs. Mackerel and lug worm doing the best.
Best fish was only weighed in at a shade over 5 lbs. A nice Pollack caught by Tony Barratt who also ended up with the best bag of the day.
Tomorrows trip will be uptiding at anchor on these monstrous Spring tides. We have room for a few more anglers on that one. All welcome to join us.
Tight lines for now

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
As the spring equinox is upon us and the tides are massive we choose to go Plaice fishing and what a result that was with everyone catching lots of small to medium sized Plaice, we decided that we would only have 4 drifts in anyone spot to see if there were any better concentrations of plaice but everywhere we stopped we were immediately into the same sized fish. It was also the start of our season long barbless hook experiment in conjunction with a local authority and the initial feelings are it went well with 16 fish landed and no fish lost all with easy release even when deeply hooked. Next test will be Bream and over the season all species will be targeted and recorded.

Report on-board Size Matters
Well the A team from Liverpool didn’t want to be out done by the Welsh lads.

On the first day we had very good weather so I suggested trying a mark over 30 miles out side the marine protection area.
I had never fished there before but was itching to give it ago, it was alive with Spurdogs at first then after about an hour the Skate moved in.
The lads landed 11 Skate to 176lb, but most where very small 15lb to 100lb.
It was great to find an area that holds all the smaller Skate, this is a great indication that the Skate are reproducing and making a big come back.
On the second day the lads wanted a chance of hooking into a 200lb Skate, so we went to one of our favourite marks.
The lads landed 20 Skate from 119lb to 219lb with a total weight of 3590lb of Skate between 4 anglers in just 9 hours fishing!!!
That’s the new Size Matters record totally smashed for most skate caught in one day.
On the third day the lads wanted to get right back on the same mark, the only problem we had was we where very low on bait.
Graham had drove up from Manchester for the last day, he was first up to get his first skate.
After over a 3 hour wait we got the first bite Graham was into something big, after over an hour of fighting what we thought was a monster Skate it turned out to be a old lobster pot swaying in the strong tide ha ha ha!!!
The lads ended the day on 6 Skate to 216lb.
Biggest fish of the trip went to John Owen with a cracking Skate of 219lb.
Second biggest went to Paul Hendrick at 216lb.
This was followed up by Phil Riley with Skate of 210lb and 208lb.
John Mcbride had Skate to 198lb and Graham Dickingson had Skate to 188lb and a lobster pot ha ha ha.
As you can see the skate fishing is on fire at the moment, sadly Size Matters is fully booked.
If you would like to book to get in on the action then give Buoy Alba Charters a call on
07854 888293, they have dates available from April.
Massive thanks to Ammo Baits Scotland for the constant supply of top quality bait.
