    Report on-board Brigand

Bream session again yesterday. Slow fishing to start but a little tweak to our approach resulted in an immediate and very positive outcome! Lost count of fish but there were plenty of Bream, a few hounds, eels & of course the obligatory Dogfish!
Great to catch-up with some old friends and to welcome so new ones aboard.
A beautiful day out there made all the better by the wonderful company. Not the most challenging of days fishing, those lay ahead when we start the serious Offhsore trips in the coming weeks venturing out to some of our favourite areas.... always an exciting time of the year!

Due to a cancelled dive trip we have whole boat available this Sunday for either 8hr or 4hr trips.
    Best wishes

  • 04/2024 Fishing Report by Matt Forrester on Silver Halo (Torquay, Devon)

    Apr 2024 by Matt Forrester

    Report on-board Silver Halo

Finally a better spell of weather and time to catch up on actually running charters!
The fishing out of Torquay has been really good, yes the fish arent on every wreck in Lyme bay but we're finding plenty enough fish and some decent sizes too with pollock, coalfish, cod and bass all showing in various numbers. The jigs in the 150 to 20g range are fished along side the traditionweighted boom and lures, the jigs often find the bigger fish.
The JOKER slow jigs and Apex minnows are doing the best work and these products are all I really provide to my clients now. The results speak for themselves, and I cant upload everything so please check out the catch gallery at the JOKER Jigs and Lures website for those!
    Many thanks Matt

  • 09/05/2024 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

9 May 2024 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

The bass fishing has improved over the last week or so. These are the best two from the other day with 30-40 caught and 16 kept. There were plenty of hounds, Dogfish, whiting and dabs in between too. Things were pretty busy at times with 3 bass to the top rod on the first few casts before the kettle had boiled! Worm was very important and the lads who didn't use it didn't have as many bass.

  • 07/05/2024 Fishing Report by Scott Belbin on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)

7 May 2024 by Scott Belbin

    Report on-board Galloper

There were some great hounds and bass showing over the last few trips. The other day the lads had good numbers of each with several decent bass for the table and some nice hounds too. The biggest hound fell to Steve on the last cast of the day and went 18.5lbs which is a great early season fish and there's plenty of time to beat it this summer. It could have been the one that got away for his son Sam earlier in the day but Sam made up for it with the bass he really wanted.

  • 06/05/2024 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

6 May 2024 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Two day report aboard Sea Urchin……

Sunday was a 14hr trip and we planned to run offshore to try a couple of wrecks which are rarely visited. I had a great bunch aboard who understood the high risk strategy and were prepared to potentially run out there for nothing, but hoping (as I was) that we may contact a couple of bigger than average fish due to the lack of pressure.

After a 4hr steam with loads of banter we arrived at the first wreck, which was the smaller of the two. We ran four drifts for one small Codling and I moved us on. With an hour of the Ebb tide to go until slack water, we started drifting the next wreck. Pleasingly there were some fish present and some drifts saw a couple of fish, whilst others gave four or five. A mix of Codling and Ling kept us entertained until slack, when it quietened off.

We held out until the Flood came through and started catching again, with similar frequency as before. Unfortunately the wreck seemed to have some old net or rope through it as we lost quite a lot of gear. Pawel Perczynski had a good day taking a fish most drifts on baited Hokkai’s, whilst Ian Kellock won the sweep with a small Ling of only 5lb 8oz.

We rode it out for the remainder of the day, but it was a bit disappointing/frustrating that we didn’t find a fish over 5lb 8oz all day. But; as they say…..nothing ventured nothing gained.

Today we had a group of mixed experience anglers and a bigger tide. We planned to spend the day exploring the rough ground; running out to the five mile to start off. We took half a dozen Codling, then we pushed out a couple of miles and managed to find a few fish every drift and everyone was getting regular bites on the baited Hokkai’s. We took mainly Codling, some small and a few around the 4lb mark. We also had, Ling, Pollock, Coalie’s, Pouting, Whiting, Dab’s and a Cuckoo Wrasse!

With only eight anglers aboard, I had a go with the Shads and managed to pick up fish regularly all day. The water is definitely clearing out.

Star of the show was Charlotte Clough who tried hard all day and had a couple of lovely Codling. Thanks everyone, you were great company and fished really well.

  • 06/05/2024 Fishing Report by Rich Ward on Shy-Torque III (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

6 May 2024 by Rich Ward

    Report on-board Shy-Torque III

Last day of the Spring competition yesterday.

Alex Choy and his friends joined us on a perfectly flat calm day!

Alex fished with us a couple of weeks ago alongside Gary Jones and had a cracking day on a strip of ground 20 miles East of the harbour.
He asked me straight away if we could return there again yesterday to see if we could chance a repeat performance!

A fairly heavy tide to punch our way out there putting a few minutes and a few more gallons of fuel through the motors!!

The day started out well with a couple of dozen fish boated in the first three drifts!

Things slowed up over slack water and just as the flood tide pushed through, a guard vessel came over the VHF asking us to move for a cable laying ship (which was nowhere to be seen and not even on the radar range of 16 miles!!!
Most annoying as we had just started clicking a few more fish!
Anyway, we obliged him and moved inside him by half a mile and finished off with another 15 or so fish.
    No big fish sadly.
Our best, a Ling of just 8lbs.

A thoroughly enjoyable day on the water with Alex and his crew.
Tally for the day was down on their last trip, but still a good 60-70 fish boated.

Cheers lads and see you in a couple of weeks.

The tides are massive now until Friday so a couple of days off now.
Friday’s trip is back out to the same grounds and if anyone wants to join us we just have two places left for then.
We also have spaces next weekend.

    Cheers
