    Report on-board Brigand

2 day fishing report for this week, both challenging days on the weather front!

Monday - we welcomed Clint and his fabulous crew from Essex aboard for a spot of wrecking. We have had some fantastic wrecking trips this year filling the boxes with high quality fish .... it wasn't like that on Monday! With a stiff Northerly looking like it was fading throughout the day we pushed out pretty far to a group of wrecks where we have had excellent fishing the last few trips ....and we struggled. Worked a number of wrecks before heading down the coast with just a few fish onboard. Clint & co. Toiled away and as the sea calmed we finally hit a wreck with a good head of fish and were in business.
A below par day on the fish front, a wonderful day on the crew front. Sorry you guys had to work away all day and that you didn't get the bounty that previous trips have had, hope you all got back safely and look forward to seeing you in the Summer.

Today - it was time to have a proper go at the Bream and we had just the people to do that! Again a challenging day for shallow water fishing with light gear with a stiffer than anticipated SW wind. Tough getting the anchor to hold with the bow bucking around on the flood but when it hooked up (12x scope out!) we settled down the guys were into good fish from the off..... what a relief! That remained the case for the whole of the tide but when the ebb kicked in it was always going to be a challenge holding the boat into the wind. Short drifting individual marks meant we continued to land fish right up until the end of the day with a respectable tally of 87.
Again, a fantastic crew today who never lost focus and fished extremely well in difficult conditions - well done all .

Long range forecast looks like we finally have a settled period heading our way - what a treat that will be after what feels like a relentless bashing!

    Best wishes

  • 05/2024 Fishing Report by Mark Peters on DAWN TIDE II (Wallasea Island, Essex)

    May 2024 by Mark Peters

    Report on-board DAWN TIDE II

There’s Plenty of bass around at the moment a decent stamp of fish & reasonable numbers aswell for April,
Worm baits & lures are most productive & both are a must if you want to target the bass. Its only going to get better as water temp rises with big shoals hitting the lures!

Hounds are creeping in more & more although we we’re catching them in February the real big girls are yet to arrive in proper numbers but im sure they will start showing in the shallows in coming weeks.

The Tope wont be far behind either & if the spurs are going to show it will be very soon aswell bedn a few rouge ones reported this week

To be honest il keep continuing to target bass until all the rest kicks off
Its nice & steady at the moment plenty for everyone.

    Exciting fishing ahead!!

  • 01/05/2024 Fishing Report by Andy Savage on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

1 May 2024 by Andy Savage

    Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl

Today we had good weather conditions (for a change), good sea conditions and a small neap tide; which were ideal for spending a day on the wrecks.

We ran North a few miles to try a couple of inshore wrecks. It was the first time I’d tried the area this year, as they seem to hold very few fish in the winter, due to the coloured water. First stop on the flood tide and after three drifts with only one Haddock to show for our efforts, we moved on.

As I set the drift on the second wreck, I noticed there were quite a few feed-marks around it so hoped for a better result. Thankfully that’s exactly what we got. We had a good couple of hours fishing taking a good few fish each drift, consisting of mainly Codling and Haddock, an odd strap Ling, plus the obligatory Pouting!!

Either baited Hokkai’s or muppet bait traces both using Squid did the majority of the bites as usual. Dave Sharp was crowned “King Pouting” when he had a “3-Up” on his Hokkai’s!! He redeemed himself by taking three fish in one drift on a Shad. Good angling Dave.

Ian Kellock led the way today, clumping a Codling a drift early on, on bait, then switched to a White Sandeel Shad and had a Codling hooked fair and square. We took half a dozen on the Shads today, which shows that the water has definitely got some clarity at last. Rich Guyatt also had a great morning, taking a fish or sometimes two each drift and put together a nice box of fish using mainly baited Hokkai’s. We fished another two wrecks until the Ebb tide came through. They both produced well, but whilst we had the quantity, we didn’t get much in the way of quality. Our biggest fish of the day being around 4lb.

The fishing on the afternoon Ebb wasn’t brilliant, but at least the sun came out to compensate! A big thanks to everyone for being great company and bringing me back some sanity after such a poor winter. Look forward to seeing you again soon

    Report on-board Crusader Charters LTD

After a bit of a lay up due to waiting on replacement parts we got back out for a days charter over the weekend.

Lads were treated to some fine quality Pollack on the sidewinder lures and live baits.

There's plenty of fish ont he grounds now so time to stock up on the fillets and get the rods bending! I was also totally made up with seeing a other Comber!

With more good weather on the horizon we will be out filling your boots with quality fish from a range of species.

Mark and the lads had a good day despite the weather the other day. There were loads of dogfish and whiting but thankfully in between there were some nice rays, hounds and bass. Stuart had the most rays with 5 to his name but the others beat him on the bass.

    Report on-board Pirate Gracie

So last week we were finally out on the banks and literally first drift Pete Atkinson bent into the first fish of the season, decent 5lber duly photo'd and released. Together we had fish every drift, so good to be back on them. The following day our first proper charter and the gang soon picked up on our methods despite the horrible NW wind holding us back. All on baord catching their two fish limit so happy days.
