Another excellent days sport with around a 150 fish being taken sometimes 2 at a time. Sidewinder shads mackrel blue and dark brown working brilliantly.
Also daylights tipped with squid and prawns, with the bait and shads both 50-50 in taking fish
The last 6 trips have now seen 120 upto 180 fish being taken each day
Summers here at long last. Surprised we haven’t had any mackrel yet, expect them any minute now

Size Matters is settling in to Plymouth for the summer season just nicely.
We have been catching
Ling to 23lb,
Pollack to 16lb 3oz,
Turbot to 15lb 2oz,
Cod to 13lb 8lb,
Whiting to 4lb 2oz,
Tub Gurnard to 4lb,
John Dory to 3lb.
We have had a few scratchy days this could be because the water temperature for this time of year is down and also anglers using the wrong type of lures.
As soon as I have got them to change there lure to one I recommend they catch.
The good news is the Cod are coming back in numbers this year, last year there was just odd ones about but this year we are catching they daily.
Guernsey is starting to fish for Turbot, I had a three day charter there and none of the lads onboard had caught a Turbot before.
After I explained to the lads how to fish for them it only took them a few hours to start catching them. Kevin Finnmore caught a cracking PB Turbot of 15lb 2oz!
This is a massive improvement on last year so roll on my next six multi day charters over there.
Dougie Henger done very well on one of the trips he landed PB Ling of 23lb and a PB Pollack of 16lb 3oz. He had never fished onboard
Size Matters before and it won’t be his last.
We only have a few individual places available for 2018 here is the full list.

Report on-board Mistress
Wow! What a week! The fishing has come on leaps and bounds here at Whitby this week.

We started out uptiding on saturday with only 4 ĺads aboard, we had a great day with boating 80 odd codlings the best angler getting a bag in the mid 20's. Lots of fish returned though.
Anyway sunday we dipped our toes in the water with the inshore wrecking, not disappointed the lads managed 60-70 cod between them and its been similar every day weve been averaging 50-80 fish per day.
We're seeing them on shads and bait. The water is still very coloured but theres fish marks all over once the water clears it looks like a bumper year ahead for us.
We have spaces this coming
Monday 14th 4 places 10hours
Tuesday 15th 8 places 7-8hours
Wednesday, thursday and friday free 10hours.
All trips £5 per hour per person. Rod and reels can be hired and end tackle supplied at cost. We only need 3 people to sail!

A lovely day at sea yesterday with my brother in law Dave Kitchingman and 4 of the members of Bradford SAC. 5 other lads joined the boat too.
The lads worked well all day and ended up with a nice few fish to take for the table. Best cod was only 7 lbs. A good number of codling around the 5 lb mark too.
Andy Holmes from Derbyshire is pictured with a few of his catch.
Cheers

Fishing Report by Scott Belbin
on Galloper (Brightlingsea, Essex)
May 2018 by Scott Belbin
Report on-board Galloper
Its been another busy month aboard the ‘Galloper’ the main target for us inshore at this time of year are the thorn-back rays. We have come to expect high numbers of them since the local stocks were saved by strict commercial restrictions on them over 10 years ago and this year hasn’t disappointed us. They come in all sizes, the females are normally the bigger fish with a double figure male a rare sight. These fish taste great and skinning them is easy with a bit of practice (so im told). I try to encourage responsible angling on my boat so all females are returned alive and have been for several years. Along with the rays there have been plenty of other bits and bobs. We had had one or two bigger bass, a few more spurdogs and a spotted ray of 2.10lbs which was a first aboard my boat and quite rare in this area.

Over the coming weeks we will continue to target the thorn-backs and also turn our attention to the smooth-hounds which are showing early considering how late spring started. Im sure we will also head offshore where we can see anything turn up even the elusive dogfish!
Ive got plenty of spaces coming up and you can find a list of available dates on my cbuk page or my website along with regular reports and more information at www.essexseafishing.co.uk or call 07956411528UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Galloper
