  • 07/2017 Fishing Report by Aaron Smith on Bad Boyz VI (Holyhead, Isle of Anglesey)

    Jul 2017 by Aaron Smith

    Report on-board Bad Boyz VI

A Jolly Rocky Weekend when the fish showed up.

This weekend we hosted Roth-well Sea Anglers, Unfortunately we only managed 2 out of the 3 days booked but we made the most of the weather instead of waiting for it to be ' favourable '.

Over the two days we concentrated the first couple of hours drifting reefs to the SW to find fresh bait. A selection of rigs / feathers to start with but after a few drifts the scratching rigs which are sold on board were showing the best results.

Saturday we fished an area to the west of Holyhead at anchor through the low water slack, We boated almost 30 Spurdogs best topping 18lb, 3 Tope to 30lb and countless BullHuss to 14lb.

Sunday the plan was the same but to spend a short time trying a wreck or two for some Pollack, In the end we only fished the one wreck as fish were coming up, 5 drifts total with fish hooked every drift.
Anchor was cut short due to the drift but we still managed 15 + BullHuss to 13lb, 6 Spurdogs to 18lb, 4 Tope to 15lb, Dogfish and a lone Whiting.

In total a brilliant weekend with a great crew, A few PB's broken and more welcoming anglers introduced into light tackle sport!

What more could a skipper ask for?

3 days already scheduled in for next year, Fingers crossed the guys bring some better weather

  • 01/07/2017 Fishing Report by Steve Green on Brigand (Brighton, East Sussex)

1 Jul 2017 by Steve Green

    Report on-board Brigand

12 mostly novice anglers kept us busy today. Steve and his crew were a pleasure to have aboard and we didnt find it too difficult to improve upon their trip total of 3 fish last time out with another boat. Once we had them all set-up it was a steady stream of fish, nine species in total with plenty of decent sized including some big Rays, Smoothehound and Big Bream.
It's great watching the youngsters getting in on the action, when you can put an 11 year old who has never fished before onto some big fish it's a real pleasure.

Evening Bass & Sole trips now starting - whole boat bookings from £10 per person, all night sessions from £40 per person; Please call for details - 07572065543

  • 06/2017 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Jun 2017 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

Over the last week we have caught Conger to 44lb, Ling to 18lb and Pollack to 10lb. The wreck fishing on the drift has been up and down, one day we caught 70+ Pollack the next day only a hand full. The strange thing is the size has dropped most are in the 3lb to 6lb range with the odd one over 10lb. Normally most Pollack on the wrecks are 6lb to 12lb with the odd bigger one thrown in, let's hope the big ones turn up again soon. Wreck fishing at anchor is a totally different story the Conger fishing is very good our best day was 46 in just two hours until the lads ran out of bait, they used 15kg of fresh mackerel in two hours.
I have now renamed fresh Mackerel as Conger Crack!! They can not get enough of it ha ha.
We start shark fishing this weekend one of my favourite types of fishing, there is something about catching big fish with big teeth, so watch this space. If you would like to join us on one of our charters then this is your chance, here is a full list of available dates!

  • 29/06/2017 Fishing Report by Rich Cope on Mistress (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

29 Jun 2017 by Rich Cope

    Report on-board Mistress

With another few days of bad weather, I thought it would be about time for an update for us here at Whitby,
This spell of bad weather has also given me chance to get some service jobs done prior to the start of the festival this weekend.

Leading up the bad weather we had mixed fishing, the neap tides producing the best with us boating around 90 keeper codlings, ling and Pollock on our best day then as the tides peaked out at 5.8m catch rates fell away, never the less the anglers still enjoying their day with me and leaving another 5 star review on the internet.
We've started to see some of the bigger Ling showing with the best this week of 17lb off a local ground mark on a big 5.6m tide, so it goes to show you can still get the big fish on big tides!
we've had a few more into double figures too.

The charter skippers enjoyed a really successful RNLI charity even recently too raising a staggering £940 with the fishing competition and raffle, we had some great fish aboard for our anglers, to just short of double figures, we had two very keen junior lady anglers, Kelly Gillings from Middlesbrough who won the junior section, and Maison McCourt from Whitby with another ling slightly smaller, all in all a great night for all involved!

So this week sees the start of the grand summer festival with a massive £5000 up for grabs, we still have spaces for this event if you fancy jumping on for a day with us. Entry fee is only £5 per person, on top of the charter fee of £50 for ten hours, sailing at 7am-5pm

Weather permitting we have an evening trip going on Wednesday 5th June, 5pm-8pm and it'll be £20 per person.
if youre interested drop me a call or text on 07977 436903
or drop me an email at seafishingwhitby@hotmail.co.uk

  • 06/2017 Fishing Report by LESTER BAKER on Seawatch1 (Brightlingsea, Essex)

    Jun 2017 by LESTER BAKER

    Report on-board Seawatch1

June continued to see huge catches of Thornback ray in the Thames estuary area,I have fished this area commercially since 1980 and never seen such large amounts on the grounds.I can only assume that the lack of quota allocation for the few commercial fishing boats left in the area has had a very positive effect on the population, obviously most of the ones we catch are returned alive with just a handful kept for the table.

June has seen the number of summer species increase daily with Smoothhounds,Bass,a few Tub Gurnard and the first of the mackerel starting to show up,it has been great to target something other than Ray's and offer our anglers a change, still a few Ray's here and there some days but tailing off for this springs spawning but will return a bit further offshore in a few weeks time in smaller numbers as we seem to catch them throughout the year now.

Seawatch has as I hoped a few years ago become a very busy charter boat and June has seen Seawatch take on Mark Davey as a a second skipper to cover the days I am unable to fit in myself (old and tired ) Mark has been a keen angler all his life and run a charter boat before.Mark also spent several years as skipper of the local fisheries patrol boat and knowledge he gained from grab sampling the grounds has brought a new dimension to my experience and given answers to some of the theories I have formed over the years.I have posted a few photos from Marks last couple of trips some ,nice mixed fishing.Mark is a really friendly guy and happy to help and we will both endeavour to give you the best day out that we can.
Remember only a couple of days to go and you can actually take a bass for dinner ( Should make a few anglers happy!

All the best and mind how you go,Lester
