Fishing Report by Malcolm Collins
on Just Mary (Christchurch, Dorset)

Report on-board Just Mary
Hi All, three consecutive All Day Hire Rod Charters and three challenging days of weather in Swanage Bay, which really was THE ONLY sensible option given the big ebbing Spring tides and strong SW winds. Swanage Bay and the Purbeck Hills give us protection and less 'reach' for the power of the waves making anchoring reasonably tolerable for fishing at anchor. Three good days of fishing with EVERYONE CATCHING as usual and a variety of species including Undulate Ray, Small Eyed Ray, Spotted Ray, Bream, Gurnard, Dogs and Mackerel plus Bass including a stonking Double Figure female fish of 10lb 8oz for Paul Denton from Leamington Spa in the West Midlands. His group led by Nick Setchell christened by me as the 'Brummie Beach Boys' travelled down on Sunday morning to enjoy a day at Sea. Undulates, Dogs, Gurnard, good size Mackerel and then the whopping Bass, surely every Anglers Dream ? Paul however is not a Sea Angler, too far from WHERE HE LIVES so he prefers Carp fishing but even he was impressed by this fish. Measured at over 80cm, weighed, photos and released to breed again. Caught on hire rod gear, my traces, mackerel fillet and over a rocky mark on 'Just Mary' from Poole. For three days I fished this mark and it never let me down, had good fish here before and experience is what makes all the difference. We won ! Thanks, Malc and 'Just Mary'.

on Spot On! (Brixham, Devon)

Report on-board Spot On!
Well its safe to say since my last report the fishing has been very up and down with some days pulling my hair out to find a couple boxes of white fish and other days the fish just hectic.
View Boats Page
we still await the arrival of cod in decent numbers and are catching them regularly now on most trips.
Some great weather over Guernsey on our last couple of trips with again fishing for flatties illusive but we did manage some fine double figured turbot and brill to 6lb 12oz, my bacon saved by the great black bream fishing over guernsey at present with fish up to 4lb.
My last trip on the skerries was disappointing with only small plaice to show for our efforts and a few rays, certainly not the numbers we should be having for this time of year, but as a 9hour trip for just £350 for the boat its just nice to wet a line on the banks I suppose.
Hopefully things will pick up soon and I look forward to the first shark fishing trips this year and maybe a tuna or 2! who knows!
More Guernsey trips planned also and bookings filling for 2018 fast so hurry if you want a date!
Many thanks to Top rigs for there great bream rigs doing the business and looking forward to trying out the new conger rigs they have made me.
Also Sidewinder for there continued support and amazing, tough, durable lures that consistently bring results.
Top colours so far this year: skerries sand eels and Jet pink.
Spot On is Brixham's only catamaran with speed, comfort and results!!

Report on-board Mistress Linda / San Gina3
Due to the predicted strong winds our game plan changed to fish several local banks which in hindsight proved very fortuitous, after getting a good supply of fresh mackeral we anchored off Swanage and were immediately into our 1st Ray this continued until we lost the tide and started to swing around the anchor rope so a quick move into Poole Bay was needed and once settled we were again into Rays. A total of 22 were caught and returned, 16 Undulates, 5 Small Eyed and 1 small Spotted, along with a few dogs and hounds to add to the score card.

Weymouth Angling Breaks - Book Now, Don't miss Out,*** NOW TAKING BOOKINGS FOR 2018 ***
A few days away fishing out of Weymouth along with the social side is a nice trip to do.The variety of fishing and the amount of different species caught at Weymouth is probably second to none. There are plenty of places to stay which are angler friendly and some excellent places to wine and dine around the harbour and in Weymouth Town centre.
If you want to try a Weymouth Angling Break then contact me, I cater for whole boat charters and individuals.
Planning your trip well in advance is essential you need to arrange your boat booking and your accommodation as early as possible to avoid disappointment, some of my regular groups plan their trips at least 12 months in advance, this allows them to discuss with me the best tides for the type of fishing they are targeting. -

Another record smashed and a PB for Paul on Lead Us 22-06-17

unable to proceed out to my chosen mark due to the forecast of increasing winds we headed up to the shelter of the cliffs of Corton. After a bit of searching round we dropped the anchor on the spot showing the most marks on the sounder just as the tide was starting to move. Roland was the first into what looked like a very good fish but unfortunately his line parted and we never saw it. following this the smoothounds started making a good show with everyone getting their share of fish and Bob getting the lions share and the biggest just under 8lbs. Then Paul had a cracking bite which almost dragged his rod over the stern after a very good fight the fish broke the surface to reveal a massive Bass once netted it wieghed in at 10lb 1oz a new record for the boat and a PB for Paul after some admiring looks and comments it was safely returned leaving Paul with a permanent grin for the rest of the day we ended the day with over a dozen hounds upto 8lb , Bass 10lb 1oz , and a few whiting hopefully this excellent run of fish will continue for some time

on Hurricane (Isle of Sheppey, Kent)

Report on-board Hurricane
spring and summer have arrived along with some nice catches of smoothounds and skate .
View Boats Page
we had a bonanza on the skate in early May when huge numbers arrived inshore we recorded catches of up to 100 in a day but they have now spread out a bit and made way for the hounds which is what summer is all about in the estuary.
plenty off bass around and large shoals showing on the fishfinder and birds diving are a good indicator .
feathering produces lots of small bass which is fun but all go back to swim away.
mackerel expected soon and from the 1st July we can retain 1 per angler
some huge hounds about and the females are heavy with pup so a chance of a record breaker is out there somewhere.
the recent charity competition for Demelza was a great day with the largest skate being recorded from my boat
and 21 boats and 96 anglers taking part in what will now become an annual event. -

Sunday only five of us went ray bashing and we're not disappointed catching 20 in the first 2 hours. We also caught cod and whiting.
We pulled the hook after a great start and 33 fish and took a short steam to the next spot which got off to a quick start. A decent doggie landed 5 minutes in with a steady stream of doggies to follow. Hounds and flatties everywhere. Another decent day with 63 caught and the biggest fish cash prize went to the skipper with 6.5lb thornback ray.
All 8 hour trips through July £45 including rod. Full day boat hire £400. Contact Chris if you require bait.
