Headed out on a bright still morning with two lads from Wisbech back to the mark where we had good catches on saturday but things were very slow with just a couple of spotties in the first hour, so decided on amove after a tip off from another boat. First cast at the new mark produced 2 smoothounds to 6lb then a nice bass approx 3lb (returned) fishing continued like this until slack water by which time the weather had picked up and was unfishable. we headed in finishing the day with 7 Bass to 5lb (returned) 6 hounds to 7lb numerous spotties and a few whiting

  • 14/06/2016 Fishing Report by TERRY BATT on Vanishing Point-2 (Bradwell Marina, Essex)

    Report on-board Vanishing Point-2

Today (Tuesday 14th June) we steamed for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 22 knots and arrived at our destination where we have had some really good sport on Hounds..

We had four anglers book the entire boat, there were three generations of a lovely family all fishing together, from Grandsons Robert and Richard, a real credit to their Dad and their granddad how were fishing along side the boys..

But..... Granddad Hugh was on fire today, he caught 20 Smoothounds on his own, showing the young whipper snappers experience wins out over youth....lol but all the family members did very well and it was an absolute pleasure to have them on board once again.

The boys had a not suck a good trip at the weekend, not solely down to the skipper, but by the sounds of it he had a bit of bad luck against him, so the catch rate was quite poor, and the boys requested an action packed day PLEASE...!! so I took them well off-shore to a very special place where they filled their boots so to say,,,
and I believe some of the lads had personal best's, so that's was good.

I think we had something around 45 Smoothounds up to 14lbs so I think we restored their faith in the fishing from Essex....

Well we are out all of this week, and Thursday we are hunting the elusive big Tope.. we shall see if they are there and report back later in the week.

We have most of next week available during the week ... Monday to Friday if any of you want a chance to get on the hounds...

  • 11/06/2016 Fishing Report by Carl Farrar on TROT- ON (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

11 Jun 2016 by Carl Farrar

    Report on-board TROT- ON

Saturday saw us joined by the boys from CSSC who were fishing the Yorkshire qualifier for the CSSC national boat fishing species comp. With only the top 3 going through to the Finals competition was rife. We started off on the ground at 9 miles with a mixture of Codling, Haddock Whiting, and Pouting falling to rag, squid and mussel baits. We had a move to a wreck for slack water hoping to pick up some Ling and skipper Paul Eddon was spot on the money with several of the boys picking up more Cod and Ling ALL were point scoring fish. When the tide started to run again lines up was called for a move onto more ground that Paul said would produce a varied mixture and once again he proved why he is Whitby's most successful skipper. 25 years experience showed in the way he put us onto Gurnard, Dab, Plaice, Herring and Mackerel. By the end of the day we had managed over 90+ fish of 10 different species, All fish was returned except for a few deep hooked ones that were kept for the table.
After totting up the results John, Graham and Steve Ivers won the all expenses paid trip to the National finals to represent Yorkshire WELL DONE boys. Also a big well done to John for being selected for the England boat fishing team

  • 06/2016 Fishing Report by Kevin McKie on Size Matters (Craobh Haven, Argyll & Bute)

    Jun 2016 by Kevin McKie

    Report on-board Size Matters

[This report was written when Size Matters was operating from Plymouth]

I find it sad there are very few mackerel about for this time of year on the south coast, I think the factory ship's are depleting the stock's much faster than they can reproduce. Over the weekend we spent hour's trying to catch enough mackerel to go conger fishing, I even bought three stone of fresh mackerel but it was know where near as good as fresh mackerel caught that day.
When we did get the anchor down we managed 30 conger up to 45lb and pulled the hook's on about 25 with the lad's being to eager, but as soon as the fresh mackerel was used up the conger went off the feed. We had the mackerel I had bought, pouting and whiting for bait but the fresh mackerel caught on the day was by far the best. This just goes to show how important mackerel are to the fishing industry. On a brighter note the cod fishing is starting to take off, some day's the cod are out numbering the pollack and there are some nice ling about.
We have caught ling to 21lb, cod to 13lb, pollack to 10lb and whiting to 3lb.
If you would like to join us for a fishing trip just give me a call for availability.

    Cheers
    Kev
