the wind has played havoc with the fishing ,but a calm (ish) spell 18-20 let us out to sea.
the main stay of species has been cod haddock whiting dab coalie all 3 gurnards dogfish and then a sprinkling of huss,spurs and smoothies
pollack fishing close in has improved considerably as has the stamp of fish.....mackerel belly,sandeel or ragworm on a leadhead/flowing trace has done the damage.....about 40 pollack today with the best a shade under 10lb

The weather and the fishing , not as good as yesterday, but still not bad for 5 hours sailing, plenty of Dabs, and Mackeral, and a few Gurnard, bullhuss and Whiting,Dogfish.

Hi everyone, just to let you all know as of March 17th 2016, I will be skippering one of the uk's top charter boats the 45ft Size Matters out of Plymouth. Graham Hannaford the owner has been skippering boats out of Plymouth for over 40 years and is regarded as one of the best skippers in the UK. I have personally fished with Graham as an angler for the last 18 years, catching conger to 86lb, ling to 28lb, cod to 21lb, pollack to 17lb plus many more. He is going to pass down all his knowledge of fishing and skippering to me. This will be a very good challenge for me and anyone who has met me or knows me will know I am a mad keen angler as well as a skipper. We will work the boat together for the spring and summer of 2016, the boat will then move to Liverpool on October 17th 2016 for the winter cod season. Each year from then on I will be operating from Liverpool October to March and from Plymouth April to October.
Operating from Plymouth I will be mostly targeting Cod, Coalfish, Pollack, Ling, Conger and Sharks.
I will also be running 5 day charters to Guernsey for bass, turbot and brill.

Sea-Otter 2 just missed out winning the WCSA late sumner festival by ounces we had a 21 lb 1 oz ling the winning fish was 21lb 10 oz still a great result and a personal best les who just missed out some excellent fishing to come .
The Whitby sea anglers Upting festival on 7 th November - 22nd November some excellent prizes on. Off around £3000 in cash .

Bringing us up to date Sunday 20th Sep weather lately been settled , tides fallen away , we got mixed bag really with few smoothounds still about and small spotty dogs but plagued with winter whiting already few keepers among them but mostly small. Nice to see few thornbacks turning up at last as they been hoildaying further south this season and also codling turning up pleasant surprise being so close to shore. Still going to head out this coming weekend if weather allows should be some big mackerel about and few tope following them so we shall see what happens forcast is supposed to be good but what thats worth hell knows! Nice to see skate thrown back and those pouting and whiting well done for bit of conservation men. So looking forward to our next trip where hopefully should be a cod day and bit colder! As for rest of us will see what next few weeks brings hopefully get few more summer species before we batten down the hatches for winter hopefully you can join us on High Flyer soon. Fishing continues to be good on the banks, with plenty of plump Plaice being caught.
On Saturday's trip over 80 Plaice were caught, many were released to grow on with 30 plus being between 2.5lb-4lb mark. Also some nice Small Eyed Ray were had along with loads of red,grey and tub gurnard. Some nice sized whiting are also being caught in good numbers on the deeper gullies.
Just Fishing is out on the banks next Saturday ( 27th September ). Call now to book your space

Another good weekend on the cod here is the biggest one from Saturday a 24lb,er caught by Paul Lavis on a mackerel fillet and less than 8 miles from the harbour. Sunday we headed off shore to the wrecks and it was cod heaven out there as well, although they were much smaller in the 5-6lb range and the weather was better than what as been all summer
