Catch report 16th & 17th June
Hi guys we've had a couple of belting days at sea this rotation.
On Friday the tides were starting to lift from neaps and was showing a 5.1m on the tide tables. I was sure the inshore wrecks had already taken a battering from the whitby fleet already, so I decided to visit some ground marks I've not visited since I started back up again
To be fair everywhere we stopped we took fish, the rods were busy all day, baited hokkais and shads were taking the fish, with a good number of double shots through the day. I started edging towards some wreckage as the tide eased but the lads were still taking a good picking on the ground so we fished on through slack, and dodged the wrecks.
We never had any big fish but we took plenty of them, with the lads amassing 70-80 keeper Cod, Ling, Haddock and Mackerel with loads of throw backs.
On Saturday the tides built further but with having such a good day friday we went back to the same area. Despite several passes on the ground the fishing was slow! I started hunting around and covered a few miles before heading back into the 3 mile stream.
I marked a ledge that suprisingly I've never marked before in all my years at sea, with a few passes I had it marked up on my maxsea,
We started fishing it and with every pass over it we were getting 3-4 rods in to cod. We managed 30 odd codling off that ledge so I carried on working tight to features on the ground taking more fish.
The lads asked me to fillet up them so we got back in early, looking through the boxes the 5 lads had had a good day again, taking 50 keeper Cod & Haddock, plus a bonus gorilla tub Mackerel.
Obviously the lads were delighted both days and its been a pleasure being at sea with everyone, In such great weather!

The tides are running quite strong inshore at present so we chose the offshore marks to start the day yesterday.
We ran to a group of four wrecks on the 20 mile stream. Just two of them producing fish for us.
No big fish to talk about but some real nice chunky Codling for the lads.
The shad seemed to work better than the baited rigs with the brighter ones doing the damage.
To finish the day off we ran to some ground marks and picked a further few Codling and Ling up.
Wind over tide created a drift at the end of the day which was basically unmanageable so home it was.
On the day, Codling, Ling, Haddock, and a nice sprinkling of Mackerel too which are always welcome.
The mixed group of lads enjoying a nice nice day at sea with us.

Hi Offshore wreck fishing last few days off ISLE OF MAN . Offshore wrecks producing pollock coalfish and some cod. The mackerel are out there at the moment with the coloured water after the east winds inshore making fishing inshore difficult. The water is gin clear near the Isle of Man making fishing better there . Bit of a journey but worth it to get good fishing

Yesterday’s team, Jamie Guttridge and his mates from Posketts of Goole were treat to a “flat calmer” with cracking sunshine all day. Hot too!!
We started off on a tiny bit of scrap just 3 miles East of Whitby for just 4 fish.
A slight move in towards shore to a tiny bit of ground produced around a dozen Codling, some of those tids and chuck backs.
Another move out to more reef/ground marks on the 6-7 mile where the lads had a few half decent drifts with more Codling and Haddock for the boxes.
At slack water we jumped on to a small wreck for very little. Just four fish fish boated so back to ground if was.
After the change of tide the lads boated just a half dozen more fish until the alarm rang for home.
Total tally for the day, around 40 fish. No big fish but lots of sport on the Shad and baited rigs.
The day started with superb banter and it carried on for 9 hours until we docked!!
A brilliant day for all of us!

Had a couple of superb days out this week! On Monday I had a few of the top species hunters out, they had 25 species again! Including the first Sandeels, Weaver, Herring and Silver Eels of the year. Yesterday I took out my Brother and my 2 nephews visiting from the States they had a mega Day Loads of Mackerel, Tope, Gurnards ,Congers , Smoothounds and they did the Ray Grand Slam 8 Blondes, 2 Undulates, Thornback, Smalleyed and Spotted.
The species tally for 2023 now stands at 47. Ray Barron is still in the lead on 31, Andy Pedon is 2nd on 27 and Alan Bird is 3rd on 25.
The rest of June is now all fully booked
Next day with spaces is Monday the 3rd of July

We have been enjoying some great fun with the smooth-hounds so far this year. The biggest so far falling to uncle Steve at 18.10lbs. it's all great fun though with screaming reels, rods bent, personal bests, smiles on faces and chaos when a pack moves through and several are hooked at once. We will be targeting the hounds on our general trips throughout the summer and my next spaces aboard Galloper from brightlingsea Essex are on 19/06 @ £60pp. Full boat available 20th-23rd and spaces offshore on 25th and 26th. A slowish day for yesterdays team on the boat.
4 inshore wrecks to the North of the harbour produced only a half dozen fish or so.
We dropped a small strip of ground next where we thought we had cracked it.
First drift producing 6 fish which was good.
The next 3 or 4 drifts only giving us another 10 Codling so we moved offshore a few miles to another piece of scrap.
This wasn’t much better either if I’m honest. Just a half dozen fish from it.
We ended the day on the rough ground marks we have had half decent results on over the last few visits, again sadly to no avail, with just an odd fish here and there.
Brian Quarterman taking the heaviest of the day, a nice Ling of 9lb 6oz.
Mark Wilkinson landing a nice double of Codling too.
The shads and baited rigs doing the job as ever.
Tally for the trip around 30 fish that’s all, but with this wonderful weather hanging on for us, the day was perfect again and the lads really enjoyed the trip.
