Spaces this week aboard Galloper from Essex.

We continue to see some nice rays aboard the Galloper. Not as many as we used to expect but enough to put a bend in the rod between the other fish. The numbers of bass are increasing each week. Boyd Rees had a lovely bass to start his trip off. Followed shortly after by a nice smooth-hound for Pete. There are a few more better hounds showing now and I look forward to getting among them in the coming weeks. In between there are lots of dogs and whiting to keep us busy too.

Fishing Report by Andy Savage
on Sea Urchin IIl (Whitby, North Yorkshire)

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Nick Massingham and the boys had the boat booked for the day today. It was a decent wrecking tide and they all love fishing the wrecks, so that was how we spent the day.
View Boats Page
With the water still not clear on the inshore wrecks, we had to run off to get to the clear water. The first thing I noticed was that it was much clearer than I’d seen it all year, when we got out there. The first wreck we stopped at, gave us a couple of hours of steady fishing. We took 2-4 fish every drift and most were in the 3-5lb bracket. Everyone got themselves a few in the box, with the exception of trip organiser Nick! For some reason, he had a very slow start, but little did we know what the “Cod Gods” had in store for him!!
We decided to move on a few miles and arrived at our next wreck about 90 minutes before slack water. A pod of dolphins greeted us and kept swimming round the boat as we set up the first drift. It was brilliant to see them swimming close around us. First drift and nobody had a bite, so I thought it might have been a wrong move. After setting up the second drift, it all went a bit mental. There were fish coming up left right and centre. Almost all were good sized quality Codling. Most were 4lb+ and we had half a dozen most runs through.
It was wind against tide so we tiptoed very slowly through the wreck, which was a massive help. Nick Massingham had by now joined the party and was clumping them every run through. Then I saw him lift into what looked like the wreck, but it bounced back……fish on! Fishing with a two muppet bait trace, Nick thought he might have a double shot as he really struggled to winch up his prize. As it turned out, he was wrong, as I slipped the net under a new PB Cod of 15lb 8oz! Credit to Nick, a fish of that size isn’t going to be the best to eat, so after the pictures, it was slipped back for another angler to catch another day.
Squid baited, muppet bait traces, did the damage today. No shock there!
We fished away for the remainder of the day and by the end, the lads were throwing them all back as they were more than happy with what was already in the boxes.
Thanks for a brilliant day out lads, you were all excellent company.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Report on-board Sweet William
We departed the Royal Quays Marina at 7:00am to glassy conditions on the River Tyne; no sooner than we’d got out of the piers an uncomfortable south easterly swell made its presence known.
View Boats Page
We had wind, rain showers, fog, cold snaps, and occasionally sunshine for the majority of the day until late afternoon!
The first few wrecks proved quite slow until we got a fair way off, and Paul landed a lovely Pollack weighing 8.1 lb to start the sweep off!
The fishing got progressively better once the tide started to flood, and some lovely Cod, small Ling, Coalies, Pouting and a solid number of smaller Codling came aboard throughout the afternoon.
Hats off to the the lads for braving the conditions; they kept at it relentlessly, pretty much non-stop, for the entire day, other than a running pit-stop for snacks and coffee.
Daz must have been keeping his powder dry, as no sooner than I said we had about 10 minutes left he knocked into a 9.15 lb Cod to take the sweep. The digital scales were flashing onto the 10 lb mark but stayed mainly below the double and the First Mate had the final say :-)
Fantastic banter all day long with some cracking fish for the pan -

Report on-board The Kraken
A fantastic days Bream fishing at Kingsmere produced some superb fish.

Steve from Brigand Charters was kind enough to fill in for me skippering at late notice and they couldn’t have been in better hands. Great weather (for once) allowed us to head to Kingsmere rocks in quick time. Straight into the fish which are top quality at the moment. Everyone had a great time with these hard fighting fish and easily filled our quota.
Headed back for a few hours inshore fishing which is still a bit scratchy with just a smooth hound single bream and the dreaded doggies showing up.
A great group of blokes on board, thanks for joining us.
Don’t miss out on these fantastic bream trips they won’t stay for much longer in these size and numbers. -

We were up against it today; half of the full party broke down on the motorway and unfortunately ended up homeward bound to Manchester.

This left the lads aboard with no bait, so we headed out for a full day on the Tyne wrecks hoping to find some bait early.
The first three wrecks produced nothing noteworthy, but finally we found some pouting, which turned the day around. The next wreck started to produce some lovely Codling and by 11:00am, we stopped for a break, and had a quick group photo whilst the fish were still fresh.
After a few refreshments we headed onwards, and more Codling began to appear, including a couple of small Ling and Pollack which was nice to see this early in the year.
The confused sea state, and the wind, thankfully began to ease off in the afternoon, prior to the long run home with a lazy following sea.
Hats off to the guys for keeping at it pretty much non stop; against all odds we had a great run out with good banter and plenty of fish for the pan! -

Report on-board Sea Urchin IIl
Today was the first day out on Sea Urchin for almost a fortnight, after yet another spell of pants weather….

Today saw a mixed group of anglers ready to have a go. With it being a weekend, we de-conflicted with the other boats, as to where we were all going and we ran out to a wreck at 12 miles to start the day. First drift through saw Stan Matthews’ rod go over and he winched up a nice double shot of Codling. We wrongly (as it turned out) thought we might fill up with a few fish, considering the early positive signs.
We persevered with the wreck through slack and waited for the flood to come. We picked off another few fish, but reluctantly called it a day and moved on as the bites never increased on the change of tide.
We tried another two wrecks for one small Haddock and a couple of Pouting. After that, we ran into the nine mile ground and spent the remainder of the day drifting the rough ground. We caught a few fish each drift for the remainder of the flood tide (Codling, Ling, Haddock, Whiting, Pouting), nothing to set the world on fire, but the action stopped once we lost the Flood tide.
We ended what was for me, yet another disappointing day, on a wreck; but pleasingly, Gaz Townend managed to pull up a couple of Codling to end the day.
I won’t try and and “dress up” another well below par day on Sea Urchin. I’m very grateful to the anglers who keep me going out to sea. I really hope the fishing improves soon and I can get on some fish.UPCOMING INDIVIDUAL SPACES ONBOARD Sea Urchin IIl

Report on-board Shy-Torque III
After a slow start on a couple of offshore wrecks this morning and only 4 fish boated, we decided to focus a bit a ground/reef fishing for a change.
View Boats Page
Tides at present are perfect for the scrap to be fair, but the fish weren’t playing for us on them.
It was a wise move to try the ground marks as they fished really quite well.
The shads were taking a good number of the smaller fish but the baited rigs were taking much stronger fish.
Local laddy, Fergus Powell landed a lovely Ling of 11lb 8oz on a 12-20lb class Ugly Stick. Great sport for him with that one!!
Mark Errington from Darlington taking the best Cod of the day at 9lb 12oz.
My old mate Derek Wiggins from Leeds taking a lovely 12 fish for himself. His best, a nice Ling of 11lb.
Rob Waterworth from Bradford had a nice day on the Codling too boating 11 keepers for himself plus other bits. Rob was leading the Shy-Torque “fish of the month” with a 7lb 12oz Ling until today. We are giving a free trip to the person who lands the heaviest fish in any month up to and including October.
Craig Booth from Leeds pipped him today with a nice Ling of 12lb 12oz and wins himself a free trip as we are cancelling tomorrows trip.
Well done to him.
Room on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
All in all a great day (apart from the cold!) and thanks for the good company chaps.
Cheers for now,
Rich
