Report on-board Sweet William
Huge thanks to Peter and the lads who set off at midnight and drove through the night to be here for a 7:00am start!

We set off this morning to the tail end of an incredible sunrise; unfortunately the sea conditions weren’t quite as forecast, with a manageable but awkward little south easterly swell.
We decided to have a full day on the wrecks after trying the inner rough grounds yesterday with little success.
The fishing was slow throughout the morning, but picked up steadily, as did the swell and wind throughout the afternoon.
We picked away until the conditions stopped play, and headed for home. Another tough but great day out! -

Massive thanks to Thomas and the guys who had travelled up from Peterborough through the night.

It was a tale of two halves today. We set off to a stunning sunrise, which then turned to overcast freezing cold fret in an instant.
The inner grounds were almost baron, and by lunchtime we had a thumb sized codling and a pouting.
The sun came out, the wind died, the sea completely flattened and the jackets came off!
Once we had slack water with the small tides, we headed out to try some wrecks.
The lads were kept busy pretty much non stop for over three hours taking dozens of fish each, with some fine codling, and more pouting than we’ve ever seen in one session.
No two days are the same at this time of year; thankfully everyone went home happy with a chunky bag of fillets for the pan! -

Report on-board Sweet William
Massive thanks to Daz, Mark and the lads for a run out today. We headed off to absolutely still conditions with the Tyne like a mirror.
View Boats Page
The decision was made to head slightly further north on a bit of a recce mission to see what we could find.
With small tides, the first slack water lingered on a little longer than we’d have liked but we persevered until it started to ebb.
The fish almost immediately came on and we steadily picked away at a decent stamp of codling.
We headed out to try one wreck and had a couple of drifts…the first drift we were flying over it as the wind had picked up; the second drift we held the boat using the engines and immediately picked up a nice codling.
At this point we made the call to head home early before the wind picked up any further, and try and beat the forecast rain.
Another great run out with a better stamp of spring codling starting to show! -

We welcomed aboard Paula, Nicole and the Veterans today!

The weather was steady when we departed Royal Quays Marina, flat seas, sunny with minimal wind which was the exact opposite of the forecast.
We stayed local to the Tyne, and pretty much hit fish all day long no matter where we went. Lots of pan-sized codling, pollack, coalies and pouting often coming up two to three at a time, with up to five rods getting action at once all around the boat.
We went from sun and a breathless wind, to squalls, rain showers and rainbows lol with the sea remaining consistently flat throughout the day.
It turned out to be a fantastic day, great weather for the most part, epic craic with some incredible tales and the First Mate particularly enjoyed learning about some of the history of the Tyne from one of the guys who was 78 years young!
We look forward to welcoming the Veterans aboard again throughout the summer! :-) -

Flat calm, no wind, short tides - still not t-shirt weather yet.
A leisurely start this morning. Heading out at slack water, which felt like it took forever to start to gain momentum.
We headed to a bass mark, with the tide still not doing anything, the fish were slow to start biting.
A quick change of location and our fortunes picked up straight away, with plenty of good codling and pollack being caught on soft plastics.
As the tide started to run I decided to revert back to PLAN A.
On approach to the mark, birds were working and the Bass were feeding, breaching the surface of the water in numerous places.
We must’ve had well over 100 bass in a couple of hours. Including a couple of stonkers.
It’s so nice to see more and more kids and teenagers on the boat this year. They are the future of the sport, and should be encouraged to get involved as often as allows.
I’ve been very busy today, and that’s just the way I like it.
We go again tomorrow

Report on-board Skylark
It's great to be back out at sea with passengers again.

Today started off just like yesterday with us coming across a pod of dolphins shortly after leaving the harbour.
Fishing today seamed to start like a dream with codling coming over the sides of the boat constantly for a good 45 mins. Unfortunately, it didn't last, and as the tide eased, so did the fishing with us having to keep moving to keep finding the tide and the odd codling.
At the end of the day, the anglers had some good sport on light tackle,
Heaviest fish today was a codling weighing 4lb 6oz.
We have seen a few different species over the weekend codling, pouting, lesser spotted dogfish, a sea scorpion, and a dab.
Over the weekend, the wildlife has been stunning with gannets already gliding about, razorbills and guilimots, and kittiwakes buzzing about.
This is a really good sign that summer will soon be here -

Another fine day at sea yesterday for the Shy-Torque team.

Because the more inshore marks aren’t really producing much at present, the vote was to steam offshore again.
First stop, a nice big wreck, some 23 miles from port where instantly the lads were pulling out the fish.
The fishing continued for a steady couple of hours with drifts of up to 6 fish for the first half dozen passes. A great start with over 40 fish off that one!
As the tide eased a bit the fishing slowed up so we steamed another 2.5 miles to one of my favourite offshore wrecks. Rubbish!
Around a half a dozen more off that one that’s all. Ah well, that’s the way it goes.
We moved back inshore to drop on our final wreck of the day where the lads managed another 10 or so fish.
Mark Armitage from Holmfirth (pictured) was on his maiden sea fishing trip and had a great start to his new hobby with a half dozen lovely fish, his best going second heaviest on the boat. A lovely Codling of 7lb 3oz.
Rob Waterworth from Bradford took our heaviest on the boat, a nice Ling of 7lb 12oz which is currently in 2nd place overall in the competition.
His fish is currently leading our fish of the month too where the winner will get a free trip.
Today is the last day of the competition so we’ll be trying our best to bag the winner and the £1000.00 first prize.
Good luck to one and all.
