Report on-board High Flyer 2
Bringing the reports up to date Jan 5th 2013, being the last trip, our plans of the 12 mile bank were scuppered by fog halfway out so with safety in mind decided to try the banks inbetween South Cross and South Corton Buoy. No good at all for cod, just flatties and small whiting. Peservered most of the day moving twice, still no cod even though decent size marks on the sounder! On seeing 2 porpoises this time of year this weather seems too mild for decent cod, on the way home picked on a mark of mine just off the shore to finish off with plenty of the usual flatties and whiting, dissapointed with no cod, we could always stay and pick up small stuff off Corton but with flat seas it seemed silly not to get offshore apart from the fog! Thanks to the lads ,Steve,Dave,Larry,Adam,James,Neil,Guy,Chalky and Paul, was good banter as usual, and dont forget who caught the first whiting!!!!!!! Jon.

Report on-board PLAN B
Royal Mail Southend's Annual "Ken Wright memoral trophy"- First trip of the new year-(cancelled last year due to weather) this time weather absolutely perfect. Fished a lower river mark as the rumor mill suggested cod were in the area.. the amount of boats in the general area suggested this was not a "secret" mark... We caught dogfish steadily on our large squid baits, but continually missed bites which suggested small fish were in the area.. We scaled down and were rewarded by whiting and large dabs. Action was non stop and when the tide picked up we had to make a decision to either try for cod (worth a lot of points in the comp) or catch the smaller species and try to get enough points to win even if someone caught a cod... I opted for the smaller species and managed to win the comp.. however Barry Patel stuck to large fish or squid baits and managed 2 decent skate .. one more and he would have won.

Everyone on the boat caught a large number of fish and the final tally was well over 100 whiting, 12 good dabs, 15 dog fish, 2 skate and 1 pouting. NO COD... but I know where they are for the next trip.

Tobys group on Thursday got amongst the doubles with 2 females, both released to lay there eggs and fight another day. Rob & Chris from Herne Bay also got amongst the Skate along with a Cod to Rob on Friday. Today Steves group from Maidstone came armed with plenty of herring baits and had a fine haul of Skate again returning the females, still taking home plenty of wings. Lots of Whiting and some large Pout made up the numbers. Plenty of dates available from the 24th Jan so please email me for bookings for when the Spring Cod run starts.
Pic shows Steves group.
Happy New year to all our anglers Bob Duke IV -

Report on-board Amino
Out today with Peter, Mark, Martin and John on a flat calm sea with hardly a breath of wind, conditions were perfect.

Went to the first mark and had Dogfish and Whiting to start then John landed his first ever Cod of 5lb just before the end of the tide. Martin then had a small bite which turned out to be a personal best Cod of 10lb 12oz :-). A few more Dogfish and Whiting followed and then it went quiet so we headed another mile off to a deeper spot with a bit more tide and almost straight off John was into something big that took line..and more line and the rod bent double! Turned out to be a foul hooked Thornback of 6lb!!.
Peter then added another Thornback of around the same size before he leant into something else that started nodding on the tip and in came another nice Cod of 9lb 12oz. We lost a couple more good fish and as the tide eased we had a few more Dogfish but that was to be it in terms of quality. Listening to the radio there were a few Cod caught but not in any great numbers so I think we faired ok on the day.
Here's Martin with his new PB Cod.. -

Wednesday and thursday this week have seen good numbers of cod and roker coming to the boat. The forecast not being at its best limited us slightly in the marks we could fish. Both days produced in excess of 10 codling to 4.5lb and roker to 10.5lb.
