Report on-board Mistress
The Whitby autumn angling festival is in full swing at the minute (when weather allows us), so with the small tides we had a full day on the wrecks.
View Boats Page
The day started slowly, and it took a couple of wrecks before we took some fish, but once we started boating a few we managed to take a steady picking picking all day.
We managed a number of fish well into double figures today, the biggest went 18lb 7oz to Mistress regular Andy Officer from Hull, the big fish got Andy second prize on the daily prize board.
Pictured is Andy with his Ling
There are still a few places available next week, Book in with a chance to win £1000 for the biggest fish. -

We locked out of the marina and headed up the river with the intentions to trying different marks to yesterdays trip. We got to the first mark and decided that it was too rough to fish, so headed inshore to fish another mark for a few hours and see how the weather settled as the day progressed. We got the guys fishing on the first mark and as with yesterday they were into mackeral straight away as well as a sprat. Graham who was fishing at the front was pulling in pouting and poor cod 3 at a time, with the other guys bringing in doggies and various other species. Tommy was the first of the day to land a Huss at around 6lb. With the pool being heaviest fish Tommy was giving the rest of the guys banter about him being the winner already, until one of the guys on the back had hooked into a lovely bullhuss, but before anyone could get the net fast enough it snapped the line as he was only on a scratching rig and swam off on the surface. I estimate it was around 14lb.
With the wind easing we decided to try and head back offshore, so lines were brought in and off we went. We got to the mark and the guys began fishing. Again plenty of Pouting, Whiting and Poor Cod. We moved to another 3 marks further offshore with the same results.

We locked out of Liverpool Marina at 5:30am and headed out offshore. There was a bit of a chop to begin with, but we knew that it was dropping all day. We headed out to the first mark 28 miles out. The guys started fishing and were into mackeral straight away. Tom was the first of the day to bring a pollack aboard which was around the 4lb mark. We stayed here for about an hour and then decided that it had dropped enough to go even further out. We motored out to try 4 more marks around 10miles further out. Again the guys were into pollack all around the 4lb mark. Plenty of pouting and poor cod were also caught as well as doggies, weevers, gurnard, and a few nice huss with the best weighing in at 14lb falling to Brian. All in all plenty of banter from the lads, surprised there were no Cod caught. But thats Fishing for you. Looking forward to seeing the Lads again for a bash at the Mersey Cod.
Gary
From the picture, i dont know which is the more aggressive... Brian or the Bullhuss -

Report on-board Mistress
The last week has been a bit up and down to say the least, referring more to weather than anything else. On the days we have got to see we have been getting amoungst the fish again, last monday started great with some exellent cod fishing to shads, but as the tides eased we gave a bit more focus to wrecking and boated some respectable fish, with Cod and Ling into high teens in weight. The weather looks to have beaten us again for few days, so has given me a bit of time to get some reports and photos onto the interent!
